ABSTRACT

This study showed the challenges in teaching History lessons in Araling

Panlipunan at selected DepEd High School in Botolan District. The study also showed

strategies the teachers suggest in teaching Araling Panlipunan as intervention. There

are total of 25 teacher-respondents who participated in the study. It was conducted

during the academic year 2016-2017.

Action research design was utilized by the the reseachers in this study.

Asurvey checklist was the main tool of data collection and descriptive and inferential

statistics were applied in the computation, analysis and interpretations of data.

Results revealed that maps, textbooks and computer units were the most used

resources/materials in teaching History lessons in Araling Panlipunan by the

respondents. They strongly agreed that they do encountered difficulties in selecting

and utilizing strategies in teaching History lessons and agreed to have difficulties in

planning learning activities and in the preparation and use of instructional

resources/materials in presenting History lessons.

Revealed further that there is no relationship between the experienced

challenges in teaching History lessons in terms of strategies and the intervention or the

appropriate strategies in teaching History lessons in Araling Panlipunan but there is a

slight relationship between the experienced challenges in terms of learning activities

and instructional resources and the intervention or the appropriate strategies in

teaching History lessons in Araling Panlipunan.

Based on the findings and the conclusions obtained by the researchers, it is

recommended that teachers may vary the learning activities in History lessons so
students can see that History has many ways of being presented and learned. The use

of various, more creative and innovation teaching strategies and methods in teaching

History lessons in Araling Panlipunan that also suits the learning styles of the

students.may be suggested. Teachers along with the support school administrators and

department head may conduct simulation trip for more appreciation of local history.

Engage students in selecting, making and use/manipulation of uinstructional

resources/materisls in Araling Panlipunan. Allow opportunities for students to review,

analyze and present historical information to enhance knowledge and appreciation of

the subject. Teachers have to be innovative and creative in Making and selecting

various instructional materials and visual aids appropriate in teaching history lessons.

Lastly, a special room or a teaching aids room for Araling Panlipunan may be

identified and where instructional materials/resources are kept for future usage.
