GROUP II

Abortion: Pro and Contra

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all, I would like to thank the organizing committee for giving me
opportunity to say a few words at this seminar. In this occasion, I’d like to speak about
‘Abortion: pro and contra’.
As you see, there has been a great deal of discussion on the problem of abortion in
this country. The discussion includes: Is abortion legal or illegal? Is abortion morally
justified or not? However, in this discussion I would like to talk from different side.
To begin with, let me say that on one hand abortion is one method of birth
control. Let’s look at the fact about the population problem in a country. When a country
faces the problems of population explosion, the government should find methods to solve
it. But since no method of contraception is one hundred percent effective and successful,
abortion becomes the only way out when prevention fails.
On the other hand, abortion may cause many negative effects for women’s health.
Women risk their health and lives in bearing the weight of the operation and its
consequences. The most common complications are inflammation, interruption of
menstrual patterns, infertility, endometriosis, myoma of the uterus, and many other kinds
of ovary illnesses,
So far, abortions have become a dilemma for countries with a large number of
citizens. On one hand, it can control the birthrate but on the other hand, it brings terrible
consequences, especially for women’s health.

I. Meaning from the text :

buat kesehatan wanita.

IV. The Argument : We would not go as far as that. That is no morral lesson.

To kill a new life before it's born, to do an abortion. This is a problem of many
generations. In the evolution of human civilization, the attitude concerning abortion was
different in different cultures, periods, societies. The aim of our study is to evaluate the
actual opinion and attitude of young persons, students, and residents in medicine in
Lubuk Pakam city, and the situation of the whole country. It discusses human interaction
where ethics, emotions and law come together. Abortion poses a morral, social and
medical dilemma that faces many individuals to create a emotional and violent
atmosphere. There are many points of view toward abortion but the “ two fine
distinctions are "pro-choice" and "pro-life". A pro-choicer would feel that the decision to
abort a pregnancy is that of the mothers and the state has no right to interfere.
A pro-lifer would hold that from the moment of conception, the embryo or fetus is
alive. This life imposes on us a morral obligation to preserve it and that abortion is
tantamount to murder. In the United States about 1.6 million pregnancies end in abortion.
Women with incomes under eleven thousand are over three times more likely to abort
than those with incomes above twenty-five thousand. Unmarried women are four to five
times more likely to abort than married and the abortion rate has doubled for 18 and 19
year olds. Recently the U.S. rate dropped 6 percent overall but the rate of abortion
among.
