Introduction

Homosexuality is the most common sexual variation from heterosexuality.

Homosexuality is the state of having a homosexual identity; one who identifies

him/herself as preferring a member of the same sex for emotional and sexual

interaction as said by Price (2013). Homosexuals or LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay,

Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning or Queer as said by Grisham (2015).

Numerous researchers have examined the homosexual subculture, the genesis,

maintenance, and even knowledge of homosexuality, but literature dealing with

attitudes of heterosexuals toward homosexuals is not prevalent. Yet attitudes toward

group of people, if negative, can have severe consequences on their emotional and

social growth (Price, 2013). Hinrichs and Rosenberg (2002) said that understanding

the attitudes of College students toward gay and lesbian persons as well as their

lifestyle, is critical to affecting a more positive environment for gays and lesbians on

the campuses of our colleges and universities. In some countries, attitudes have
become much more supportive of gay and lesbians rights and more accepting of

homosexual behaviors.

The researchers aim to identify the attitudes of college students with regards to their

perception to gay and lesbians. By the end of the study, the first years of CED should

know and understand even more the Homosexuality and homosexual, awareness and

sensitivity of every student must expand, the students must also appreciate the status

of their being.

Students must be able to learn that racism and discrimination must stop about their

sexuality. The main purpose of the study is to know and determine the attitudes of the

students to Homosexual that shapes their perception toward gay and lesbians.

According to Flores and Park (2018), acceptance is defined as the extent to which

homosexual people are seen by individuals in the society in ways that are positive and

inclusive, both with respect to individuals opinion about homosexual people.

Historically, lesbian and gay have not been understood and accepted as part of the

normal spectrum of the human condition. Instead, they have been stereotyped as

deviant. Although homosexual people share with the rest of society, the full range of

health risk, they also face profound and poor understood set of additional health risk

due largely to social stigma. This can be a tolerance to their community.

Statement of the Problem

Given the undeniable fact that Homosexuality is the most common sexual variation

from heterosexuality, it cannot also be denied that this also happens to schools – to

teachers and students. Thus, this research work aimed to find out the attitudes of
Angeles University Foundation students’ which shape their perception toward gay

and lesbians. Specifically, this study aims to answer the question:

1. What are the attitudes of College students of Angeles University

Foundation towards Homosexual in terms of:

a. Tolerance

b. Acceptance

c. Admiration

METHODOLOGY

Participants

From the overall population of College students of Angeles University Foundation,

researchers will randomly be selecting 50 total of respondents to answer the survey.

Procedure

A questionnaire comprising 20 questions using the Likert-type scale was developed

for this study. In order to construct this Likert-type scale survey questionnaire,

researchers sifted through scales and existing questionnaires that are already used

in previous studies with regard to the attitudes toward homosexual. Where

necessary, questions were modified to focus on the attitudes of students towards

homosexual, specifically, towards gay and lesbian. This scale comprised five (5)

items relating to gay and lesbian. Participants were asked to rate each statement on

a 5-point scale from “Strongly Disagree (5)” to “Strongly Agree (1)”.

To ensure the confidentiality of the attitudes of the college students of Angeles

University Foundation that shapes their perception towards homosexual (gay and

lesbian), researchers developed a consent which the Dean of College of Education

have signed and which the respondents themselves read and signed as well. After

ensuring the confidentiality of their answers, researchers started distributing the

survey questionnaire to the randomly selected 50 respondents then started collecting

the data.

The researchers distinguished the questions from the questionnaire in which it were

categorized into three parts, a. Tolerance, b. Acceptance and c. Admiration since the

aim of the study is to identify the attitudes of the students towards Homosexuality

specifically gay and lesbians.

After collecting the data, researchers started analysing the data in order to get the

result of the study.

DISCUSSION

The result of the study would provide vital information for the students, teacher and

other researchers on stress. After researchers have seen the results, researchers

have observed that when it comes to tolerance, respondents have most rated their

attitude as neutral toward gay and lesbians. Therefore, respondents have neutral

tolerance to gay and lesbians.

With regard to table 2, the result have shown that respondents have answered the

most is the neutral acceptance to strongly agree. Therefore, respondents have neutral

to high acceptance to gay and lesbians.

For the admiration of the respondents, the result have shown that there is neutral

admiration to the gay and lesbians.

In this study, 50 college students were randomly selected and were surveyed about

their attitudes toward homosexual specifically, gay and lesbian. Respondents were

given the chance to put check to which sexual orientation they belong. There are 29

females, 16 males, and 5 gays in our respondents.

CONCLUSION

Based to the survey of the researchers. the lesbian and gay are acceptable enough in

the college of education at Angeles University Foundation. Therefore, the college

become much more supportive of gay and lesbians’ rights and more accepting of

homosexual behaviors.

The College students of the University are not repulsive to homosexuality therefore,

researchers can conclude that respondents already have knowledge and awareness

to the homosexual and homosexuality.
