RATIONALE

IN TERMS OF THE PROGRESS I FEEL I HAVE MADE


DURING THE LAST 7 UNITS OF MY QUALIFICATION, I
HAVE DEFINITELY EXPANDED MY DESIGN KNOWLEDGE
BY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT. COMING INTO THIS
COURSE I ONLY HAD GROUNDING IN PHOTOSHOP AND
HAD A VERY LIMITED SKILL SET OUTSIDE OF THAT.
ALONGSIDE THIS, MY DESIGN KNOWLEDGE WHEN IT
COMES TO THINGS SUCH AS MEETING A BRIEF AND
THE WISHES OF A CLIENT HAS ALL BEEN TAUGHT TO
ME DURING THE LAST 7 UNITS. THIS MEANS A LOT, AS
WORK CAN LOOK GREAT AND STILL NOT MEET THE
BRIEF GIVEN TO YOU, AS A DESIGNER IT IS YOUR JOB
TO COMPLETE WORK WHICH MEETS THE WISHES OF
THE CLIENT.

IN TERMS OF HOW I WAS INFLUENCED TO CHOOSE


THE PATHWAY I DID FOR THIS PROJECT, I FEEL THAT
UNITS SUCH AS 3D AND GAMESJAM MOST INFLUENCED
MY DECISION TO FOCUS ON 3D DESIGN WITHIN MY
PROPOSAL. THE PEOPLE I MET THROUGH THE COURSE,
WHO SHARE MY INTERESTS, LEAD TO THE IDEA OF
BUILDING OUR OWN PC. THIS WORKED WELL WITH MY
PREFERENCE TOWARDS 3D DESIGN, AS MY PLACE IN
THE GROUP WILL CONSIST OF A LOT OF 3D MODELING
THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT, ALONGSIDE THE SOCIAL
MEDIA CAMPAIGN AND SMALLER PARTS, WHICH I ALSO
THOROUGHLY ENJOY TAKING PART IN.

PROJECT CONCEPT

RECENTLY, ONE OF OUR TEACHERS HAPPENED TO BRING IN A FEW OLD PIECES OF


EQUIPMENT, SOME OF WHICH WERE OLD WORLD WAR 2 CONTAINERS, USED FOR
HOLDING SHELLS DURING THEIR TIME. THESE CONTAINERS WERE ONLY BEING
OCCUPIED BY SOME LIGHTS AND BASIC CAMERA EQUIPMENT BUT THEY GAVE US AN
IDEA.
WE REALISED THAT MANY PC MODS BEING SOLD COMMERCIALLY TODAY FOCUS ON
IMPLEMENTING CURRENT TECHNOLOGY INTO THE EQUIPMENT OF THE FUTURE. WE
WANT TO BRING MODERN PC COMPONENTS INTO EQUIPMENT OF THE PAST. THIS
WAS A CONCEPT WE HAD ALL THOUGHT ABOUT LONG BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF
THIS PROJECT BUT SOMETHING WE ONLY HAD THE MEANS TO PURSUE NOW.
IN TERMS OF OUR AIM WITHIN THIS PROJECT, WE WANTED TO PLACE A FOCUS ON
THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES POSED BY THE INFLUX OF E-WASTE CREATED BY
DISPOSED TECHNOLOGY, RAISING AWARENESS FOR THIS ISSUE WHICH HAS BEEN
GROWING LARGER AND LARGER IN RECENT YEARS. AS MUCH AS 50 MILLION METRIC
TONNES OF E-WASTE ARE PRODUCED PER YEAR, WE WANT PEOPLE TO SEE OUR
PROJECT AND REALISE THAT ANYONE CAN UPCYCLE OLD ITEMS, THEY SHOULD NOT
BE WASTED
WE HAD THE IDEA TO USE A SECOND HAND SHELLS CASE TO HIGHLIGHT THESE
ISSUES ALONGSIDE SIMPLY BUILDING A PC.
WE ALSO WANTED TO BE ABLE TO CREATE A BRANDING AND SOCIAL MEDIA
CAMPAIGN SURROUNDING SOMETHING WE WERE TRULY WERE INTERESTED IN,
AS I FEEL WE WOULD CREATE A HIGHER STANDARD OF WORK IF WE ARE TRULY
PASSIONATE ABOUT THE MESSAGE WE WERE TRYING TO PUT ACROSS. IN TERMS
OF THE WORK I PLAN ON PRODUCING AS A MEMBER OF MY 4 PERSON TEAM, I
AM FOCUSSING ON THE 3D SIDE OF DEVELOPMENT. THIS INVOLVES CREATING
DETAILED 3D MODELS OF THE CASE AND EACH INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT WE PLAN
ON IMPLEMENTING INTO THAT CASE. THIS GOES ALONGSIDE THE ANIMATION WE
PLAN ON ADDING TO THE CASE TO SHOWCASE IT IN THE BEST LIGHT POSSIBLE
WHILE KEEPING THOSE LOOKING AT OUR ITEM INTERESTED AND ENTERTAINED. WE
WANT TO BRAND THIS CASE AS SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST A PC. OUR BRANDING
CAMPAIGN (INCLUDING OUR 3D ASSETS), WILL BE THOROUGH AND PROFESSIONAL.
IT WILL VOICE OUR AIM (SURROUNDING ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH RECYCLING),
WITHIN EVERY ASPECT OF THE WORK WE DO, ALONGSIDE FORMING A BEAUTIFUL
PRODUCT TO SHOWCASE WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO WITH RECYCLED ITEMS.

WHEN IT COMES TO THE FINAL PRODUCT, WE PLAN ON PRESENTING IT IN A WEBSITE


FORMAT ALONGSIDE CREATING VARIOUS MEDIA ACCOUNTS SURROUNDING THE
PHYSICAL PRODUCT ALONGSIDE THE BRANDING WE CREATE. WE ALSO WANTED TO
HIGHLIGHT THE RETRO THEME WE WERE GOING FOR WITHIN THIS PROJECT IN OUR
ONLINE BRANDING CAMPAIGN.

WHEN IT COMES TO THE CHOICES I PLAN ON MAKING THROUGHOUT


THE DURATION OF THIS PROJECT AND HOW I WILL DOCUMENT
THEM BOTH DURING AND AFTER, I KNOW OUR TEAM HAS PLANS
ON DOCUMENTING THE WHOLE PROJECT USING SOCIAL MEDIA
ACCOUNTS AND STREAMING / VIDEO TO DOCUMENT THE MORE
PIVOTAL MOMENTS WITHIN THE PROJECT INCLUDING THE SYSTEM
BUILD. THE COMPLETED BRANDING AND THE 3D MODELING AND
ANIMATION PROCESS.
ALONGSIDE THIS, AS A GROUP WE WILL CREATE DEDICATED
PRODUCTION LOGS TO PROVIDE WRITTEN EVIDENCE ALONGSIDE THE
SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN WE PLAN ON LAUNCHING.
WHEN IT COMES TO THE FINAL EVALUATION OF THE PROJECT, WE
WANT TO ENSURE IT’S THOROUGH AND REFLECT THE FACT THAT OUR
PROJECT WILL PRODUCE A COMMERCIALLY VIABLE PRODUCT AND
THEREFORE WILL COVER ALL BASES WHEN IT COMES TO EXPLAINING
THE REASONING BEHIND EACH OF THE CHOICES WE MADE
THROUGHOUT THE PRODUCTION OF THE PC AND ALL THE BRANDING
WE ARE DOING AROUND IT.
