Installing ANKO Software

Hardware requirements
The ANKO software runs on IBM Personal Computers or compatibles, under MS Windows NT, MS
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8.
In general, to run ANKO software packages the hardware must at least be equipped with a Pentium
processor, a super VGA graphics adapter with resolution of 1024x768, VGA color screen, a hard
disc, a two buttons mouse and at least 16MB of RAM memory. A higher configuration, is, however,
strongly recommended.
The installation of the standard ANKO Marine Load Planner configuration will require approximately
500MB of free space on your hard disk.
This space may be significantly lower in case less vessel’s documents are included in the installation
(single vessel). Every new vessel to be added in the software, more space is required (according to
the size of the documents included in the installation)

Installation Procedure – Standard Version

The software is licensed subject to the acceptance by the licensee of the ANKO standard conditions
of license. Before installing the system, read carefully the license terms and conditions in the section
“Standard Conditions of License”. Installation and use of the software implies full acceptance of
these conditions.

The ANKO Marine Load Planner is delivered in a CD or in an .exe file.

In those cases where ANKO is delivered on a CD, to install the software follow the steps below:

1. Installation from CD
- Start Microsoft Windows
- Insert the CD in Drive D:
From Start select Run. Type d:\setup and press ENTER
- or, browse the CD and double click the setup icon
- Follow the setup instructions
In the above example, D is the CD drive

It is to be noted that the program and data files must be installed in the same directory (the default
installation directory is C:\ANKOW). This must be kept in mind, so that in case data files for
additional ships are installed in the future, these are placed in the directory of the initial program
installation.

The set up program automatically adds a shortcut item in the Start Menu Programs bar and at the
user’s desktop.

Upon completion of the installation, you can start the ANKO Marine Load Planner by double-clicking
the “ANKO Marine Load Planner” icon on the desktop or by selecting Start \ Programs \ ANKO
Marine Load Planner.

2. Installation from setup (.exe) file

- Double click the setup icon
- Follow the setup instructions

3. Update of existing Installation

In order to update an existing installation of ANKO, there is no need to uninstall the previous
software. You just need to run the setup, as previously described. All necessary changes will be
done automatically.
Important: The stored conditions of the vessel will be replaced by the default, in case of a software
update. To avoid this, see the instructions below.

4. How to keep old stored conditions – Online settings

a. Stored conditions
The ANKO installation directory by default is the C:\ANKOW
In order to keep the already stored conditions in the existing installation, do the following:
In the existing PC installation go to C:\ANKOW\SHIPS\SHIPDATA.XXX folder. This contains the data
of the vessel with code XXX. Inside this directory you will find the file storedb.XXX.
Save this file safely apart (contains the already stored loading conditions).
After Installation (update) go again to C:\ANKOW\SHIPS\SHIPDATA.XXX and replace the installed
storedb.XXX file with the old one (which you saved apart).

Notation: Please note that in some cases the stored conditions from the existing installation cannot
be transferred to the new one. Such cases may be the addition of deck cargo loading, the
modification of one or more compartments, very old existing ANKO version, etc.

b. Online settings
For versions with Online module before the new program installation, please make a copy of
C:\ANKOW\ANKO.INI and keep it safely apart. If you have any problem with ANKO online mode
restore ANKO.INI.

The vessel code is shown at “About” window, which can be reached from the “misc” tab in the main
menu.

Installation Procedure – Network Version

On the installation disk you will find two setup files - one for the installation on the Server (this can
also be used for a stand-alone installation on any PC) and the Rsetup.exe, which is used to setup
the necessary libraries on a Client PC.

1. Installation on the server (or standalone system installation)

- Insert the CD Rom to the CD Drive (e.g. to drive D:)
- From the Start Menu click Run. Type d:\setup and click OK
- or, browse the CD and double click the setup icon
- Follow the setup instructions

2. Network terminal (client) installation.

To run ANKO (as installed on server -software and ships) from a computer terminal, install on the
terminal the required library files as follows:
-Insert the CD Rom to the CD Drive (e.g. to drive D:)
-From the Start Menu click Run. Type d:\Rsetup. Click OK
-Click OK on the setup screen for installing libraries in the windows directory
-Define a map drive for the server (for example, s:)
-On the desktop of the client PC make a shortcut, to:
s:\ankow\anetmain.exe,
where s: is the map drive for the server.

3. Updates of network installation

Updates of the network installation can be done on the server, or from any client PC. In order to
update the software or add new vessel, follow the steps in 1 above.
Attention!: If the update is done from a client PC and when the setup starts, select the map drive as
the ANKO installation path (e.g. ‘ s:\’)

4. Operating hints for network version

When you run ANKO from a client PC (ANKO shortcut targets to the server), by default you run
ANKO from the server and you see for selection the ships on the server (that is included in the
"SHIPS" directory on the server, which is in the folder where the ANETMAIN is).

To move to ships on any other folder on the network:

1. Click the button "Network". On the appearing window ("NETWORK") do the following
2. Select the directory on any of the mapped drives, where the desired ship data are located.
3. The list of vessels found in the selected directory will appear.
4. Click "OK"
5. The above list of vessels will become the active working vessels list on the ANKO startup window.
6. Select the desired vessel and work as usual.
Note that the ANKO network version allows any number of users to run the same EXE on the
server, as well as multiple users to open the same ship data folder to work independently
(simultaneous users are also allowed to open simultaneously their private copy of the same loading
condition: in such case who saves last will over write the condition - if this is not desired, the user
should first rename and or save with a new name his working copy of the loading condition).
