Reflection Paper: Dapitan Health Center

February 26, 2019

As part of our RLE requirements we are assigned to have our duty in a Barangay Health
Center particularly in Dapitan Health Center. But first, we had our courtesy call to the Belmonte
Health Center for further instructions and they also discuss the rules and policies to remember
when in a community especially the organizational chart of Dapitan Health Center. It’s been
almost 3 years since my last duty in Dapitan Health Center. Yet I enjoyed my duty here.

Our task is not only as a staff nurse but to practice being a head nurse of the group.
Today, our group were assigned in treatment and dispensing area. I was assigned in the
dispensing area, with the help of Maam Villanueva, Nurse lll, she guide us on what are the things
to do and don’t do in the area. Since its Tuesday, days scheduled for clients with non
communicable disease like hypertension and diabetes which are one of the programs offered in
the Health Center. As a nursing student, one thing I’ve learned is to remain calm and alert and
have a long patience when dealing with our clients and also earning their trust as a health care
provider. As for our post conference Maam Naneth Padua, Nurse Supervisor orient as about the
settings in Dapitan Health Center and the programs they have.

2nd day of our duty, our group assigned in admission area, we’re the one who’s admitting
the patient, taking vital signs and doing physical assessment. Most of the patients are children
because some of them are scheduled for immunization. It was fun yet tiring day because we still
managed to finish our duties in the health center for this week.

On the 3rd day we stayed in classroom to fix some requirements in head nursing. But me,
Ms. Onyeji, Ms. Wilson and Ms. Torreja ask permission to Maam Merin to have our prelim
exam on Merge Review center for our Competency Appraisal subject. After our exam we go
back to school.

On our 4th day of duty our group were assigned in the treatment area. This day I’m
assigned to both dispensing area and in vaccination area because the last week of our duty in the
treatment room, I wasn’t able to perform vaccination. In dispensing area, since it’s not scheduled
for clients with non-communicable disease, we still assist them and advised them the next time
they come that the scheduled day is every Tuesday and Thursday. I got a little nervous in
vaccination area but I somehow overcome it and used to it. I enjoyed having my duty here.

This is our last duty in Dapitan Health Center and for head nursing. Everyone is
motivated because finally it’s our last duty in the community. We started our duty with Health
teaching to our patients about (EPI) Expanded Program Immunization. We are happy that all of
them are participative.
After the health teaching, our group was assigned in the treatment area. This day, I
overcome my nervousness in vaccination. What I learned is that we have to keep in mind that we
have to stay focus on the things that we are doing and also being alert. I enjoyed dealing with
them especially the babies whom we injected. Every skills or procedure that we perform is
equivalent to the trust we gained from our patient. And also our attitude on dealing with our
clients and our other health care provider.
Since it’s our last day of duty we prepared food for the health center worker and we have
a small gathering with them.
