Ric is the father of five and
spent five years in the US
Air Force as a Medical
Technician. Ric works full
time at Home Depot in
Phoenix, AZ. He enjoys
reading, watching football
(Go Steelers!) and
traveling.
Susan Guinn-
Lahm, MA, CRC, LPC
Susan is a native of Ajo, AZ
where she works as the
Lead Behavioral Health
Clinician at Desert Senita
Community Health Center
(DSCHC). Susan provide
general mental health
counseling services,
specializing in patient’s
behavioral changes to
compliment their medical
treatment.
Kaity’s Way Travels the Community in
honor of Domestic Violence Awareness
Month
This October marks the
twenty-first year that Domestic
Violence Awareness Month
was observed and Kaity’s
Way was in the community full
force. Several venues
throughout Arizona contacted
Kaity’s Way to invite the group
to share Kaity’s Story in the
spirit of education and sharing
with the community.
We started out at Paradise
Valley Community College
(PVCC) Ana Stigsson’s day
and evening Marriage and
Family classes. The PVCC
Marriage and Family classes
have frequently requested
Kaity’s Way’s presence with
each new school semester –
broadening Kaity’s story
awareness and education.
Next in Ajo, we shared Kaity’s
story with the Pima County
Victim Services Division
Volunteers. Established in
1975, was the first in the
country to provide
comprehensive assistance to
victims of crimes. The
program has a staff of 25 paid
and 120 volunteer workers
who are on call 24 hours a
day, seven days a week.

Supervisor.
In Phoenix, we shared Kaity’s
Story with the inspiring young
people of the MYLIFE
Magellan Youth Leaders
Group - 85 youth, ages 13 to
23, who have experience with
mental health, substance
abuse, juvenile justice and/or
foster care-related issues.
We finished out the month in
Fort Huachuca, AZ as part of
the Speakers Bureau for the
Arizona Coalition Against
Domestic Violence, to tell
Kaity’s Story at Real-Life
Solutions for Successful Army
Living – an Army Community
Service sponsored event.
We are so thankful to those
that invited us to share Kaity’s
Story, as we elevate to
another level, hoping that at
least one individual was
inspired by her story. We
receive so much from those
we share Kaity’s story with in
the way of hugs and/or kind
words. Some words of
encouragement received
were:
“Keep on being a voice – that
will save many lives”
“I got a lot out of this
presentation. I am fully aware
now about how abusive my
past relationship was. I am
truly Thankful for that. Thank
you so much”
There was a particularly
moving answer to the
question on our survey “What,
if any, message did you
receive from Kaity’s Story”
that really touched our hearts:
“It really inspired me to be
closer to my family so I could
tell them if something
happened to me.”
Needless to say, it was a very
busy and exhilarating month
for Kaity’s Way. It is estimated
that we shared Kaity’s Story
with more than 200 people
last month. Since Kaity’s Way
began tracking its audience
numbers, October proved to
be the highest number of
people we have spoken to
within any given month. No
doubt it won’t be long before
we are able to surpass the
200 mark.
