Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chairperson Jose Ma. Sison's leadership has
forced many members to lay low and leave their organization, a group of former communist rebels
said Saturday.

In a statement released by Ka Fidel Javier, the Kilusan at Alyansa ng mga Dating Rebelde (KADRE)
said Sison's leadership was a primary reason why they bolted from the communist group.

"Ang inyong pamumuno ang nagtulak sa marami sa amin para mag lay low at kumalas sa
kilusan (Your leadership pushed many of us to leave the movement). Bago po natin punahin ang
mga sinasabi nyong ahente ng naghaharing uri, magkaroon muna po tayo ng pagpuna at pagtatasa
sa ating kakayahan bilang lider ng Kilusan (Before you criticize those you say agents of the ruling
class, evaluate and hone your abilities first as the movement's leader) ," KADRE said.

KADRE, a group composed of more or less 200 former communists members nationwide, also
tagged Sison as a tyrant and a dictator in the CPP.

"During the 1990s, debate of the CPP-NPA (New People's Army)- NDF (National Democratic Front)
that polarized the movement, isn't it Joma was the tyrant of the party and dictatorial of the Central
Committee and single handedly approved the reaffirmist line that left the movement polarized
between the rejectionist and rejoice?," he added.

KADRE was reacting to Sison's recent statements against President Rodrigo R. Duterte where he
called the President a "tyrant, traitor, plunderer and mass murderer" and a "bureaucrat capitalist".

"Dahan-dahan po sa pag sasalita, bawat katagang sinasabi ninyo ay repleksyun ng inyong

pamumuno sa loob ng kilusan (Be careful with your words because each word you utter reflects your
leadership in the movement)," the group said.

KADRE also alleged that it was Sison who conducted mass murders among their ranks in the past.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) 11 (Davao region) plans to train
more than 500 inmates this year, its director, Lorenzo Macapili, said Friday.

“We have at least three partner correctional facilities where we conduct trainings. For this year, we
target 532 enrollees, and at least 404 graduates," Macapili told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

In 2018, 483 inmates in the region enrolled in TESDA, and 367 of them graduated.
Macapili said some 288 inmates completed their training, and 108 of them had their training from
July to December 2018. The others began their training early this year, he said.

The 108 trainees received their National Certificates (NC) last March 27.

They underwent different skills training, such as on "Hilot" wellness massage, plumbing, shielded
metal arc welding, carpentry, handrail leading to masonry, and massage therapy.

National assessment was provided after finishing their training.

According to TESDA, providing the inmates with skills training would help them get employed after
their release from the reformatory center.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) chief Jaime Morente has recommended the preventive suspension of 18
personnel accused of extortion by 15 Koreans in a recent operation.

“Extortion is a violation of our oath of service. We cannot allow such instances to go unpunished.
We have requested the DOJ (Department of Justice), which is our mother department, to issue the
suspension order," said BI Commissioner Jaime Morente in a statement.

Morente said they acted on President Rodrigo Duterte’s order and recommended to suspend the
operatives pending results of an investigation on the alleged extortion during a law enforcement
operation last month in Angeles City, Pampanga.

The Koreans alleged that immigration officers asked for a P20 million payment so they won't be
ordered deported. The operatives also allegedly seized their jewelry.
The Korean victims filed a complaint before the Office of the President and the DOJ against the 18
operatives.

Morente said the agents could face both administrative and criminal charges if found guilty.

The leader of a new party that challenged Thailand's military government has
been charged with sedition, the latest legal action facing the rising star after a

The sedition charge, which was filed by the junta, was the second criminal case

The 2015 case resurfaced after the Future Forward Party made a surprisingly

It was still uncertain which party could form a government after the election, the
first since a 2014 army coup. Final results may not be clear for weeks.

A lawyer for US President Donald Trump has asked the US Treasury

Department to deny an attempt by Democratic members of Congress to have
Trump's tax returns released.
The lawyer said the returns are "private tax information" that the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS), which is part of the Treasury Department, "cannot
legally divulge".
The request for the tax returns came on Wednesday from Representative
Richard Neal, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Neal
formally requested Trump's personal and business tax returns from 2013 to 2018
from the IRS.
The committee, which oversees the federal tax system, said it seeks
confirmation that the IRS is following its policy of auditing the tax returns of all
sitting presidents and vice presidents, Neal said in a statement.
Trump has consistently refused to release his tax returns, which would divulge
sensitive information about Trump's business dealings, debt and tax liability.
He said again on Friday that his tax returns are being audited and he therefore
has no comment about the request.

Boeing Co plans to reduce its monthly 737 aircraft production by nearly 20 per
cent as it works to manage the grounding of its MAX aircraft in the wake of two
deadly crashes, the company says.
Deliveries of Boeing's best-selling aircraft were frozen after a global grounding
of the narrowbody model following the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines jet on
March 10.
Starting mid-April, production will be cut to 42 planes per month from 52, the
company said in a statement.
The company now knows that a chain of events caused a Lion Air crash in
Indonesia last October and the Ethiopia disaster, with erroneous activation of
so-called MCAS anti-stall software "a common link" between the two.
Boeing said it continues to make progress on a 737 MAX software update to
prevent accidents like these from ever happening again.
Boeing had been planning to speed up production again in June to 57 a month.

Malaysia's government did a U-turn Friday on its decision to join the International Criminal Court
(ICC), its prime minister said, after a backlash from a powerful Islamic ruler and opposition
politicians.

The Southeast Asian nation announced in March it was joining the world's only permanent war
crimes tribunal after a reform-minded government came to power last year.

But the move sparked an outcry from opposition politicians and the powerful sultan of southern
Johor state, who were furious the country's revered Islamic royals would not be exempt from
potential prosecution by the court.

Malaysia's decision not to join the ICC is a severe blow to the tribunal in The Hague, which has been
under pressure following high-profile acquittals, while Burundi became the first country to quit the
court in 2017.

The Philippines also quit last month as the tribunal investigated the government's drug war.

Reports suggest there is fighting near the international airport to the south.

Tripoli is the home of Libya's internationally recognised government, which has the

UN troops in the city have been placed on high alert. Violence and division have riven
Libya since long-time ruler Muammar Gaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011.

A major study has found that unhealthful eating is responsible for more deaths worldwide than
any other risk factor, including smoking.
The Global Burden of Disease Study looked at dietary consumption between
1990 and 2017 in 195 countries, focusing on 15 types of food or nutrients.

In a paper that features in The Lancet, the study investigators conclude that,
due to its contribution to noncommunicable diseases, poor diet accounted for
1 in 5, or 11 million, adult deaths in 2017.

The vast majority of those deaths, around 10 million, were from cardiovascular
disease. The rest were mainly from cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Ranking the countries from lowest to highest rates of diet-related deaths puts
Israel first, with 89 deaths per 100,000 people, and Uzbekistan last, with 892
per 100,000.
The United States, with 171 deaths per 100,000, comes in at 43rd place
and the United Kingdom at 23rd, with 127 deaths per 100,000. India is in
118th place, and China is in 140th.

New research from the United Kingdom has found that people who experience recurrent
episodes of depression throughout adulthood are more at risk of developing memory problems
later in life.
Scientists have already shown that depressionand other mental
health problems can affect a person's memory in the short term.

For instance, a study that the journal Cognition and Emotion published in
2016 found that individuals with dysphoria — a persistent sense of
unhappiness or dissatisfaction that is often a symptom of depression —
had poorer working memory than people without any mental health problems.

Now, however, researchers from the University of Sussex in Brighton, U.K.

have found evidence that links experiencing mental health problems
throughout adulthood to memory problems at the age of 50 years.

The implications, says study author Darya Gaysina, are that "the more
episodes of depression people experience in their adulthood, the higher risk of
cognitive impairment they have later in life."

The Australian government has allocated about USD85 million in development assistance to the
Philippines, Australian Ambassador Steven Robinson said.

“For the current time, we provide this year about USD85 million in development assistance, most of
them by the beginning of the financial year,” Robinson said during a media reception at the new
Australian envoy to Manila's residence in Makati on Thursday.

A large part of the amount will be devoted to the development of Mindanao, he said, citing the
importance of the implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

He said assistance for education will also continue as he committed more scholarship opportunities
to the Filipino youth.

During his speech, Robinson cited the "firm" education ties between Manila and Canberra, which
has already benefited some 12,600 Filipinos.

At present, at least 60 Filipino students are studying in Australia for their master's and doctoral
degrees, he said.

Cats can recognise their own names but just chose not to listen to their owners,
researchers claim.
The study by Sophia University in Japan showed felines responded by moving their
heads or twitching an ear when their names were read out among three other words of
a similar length.
And no reaction was spotted after the other words were spoken.

"There are so many studies about dog ability to communicate with humans. We think it
is important to show cats’ ability.

"Many cat owners know that cats understand their own names.

"Cats understand human cues better than many people think," Dr Atsuko Saito, first
author of the study said.
Previous research has highlighted how other animals, including dogs, dolphins and
parrots can too show some understanding of human vocalisations.

A 19-year-old woman from the UK went from having no idea she was pregnant to giving
birth to a healthy baby girl, literally overnight, after going to bed with a flat stomach and
waking up with a full-on baby bump.

On the morning of July 17, 2018, 19-year-old Emmalouise Leggate got the shock of her
life. She woke up with a baby where there hadn’t been one the night before. Alarmed,
the teenager called her mom, who in turn contacted her grandmother Louise to see if
she could make sense of the bulging belly. Louise could tell it was a baby bump the
moment she saw it, so she drove Emmalouise to the hospital and had her wait in the car
while she went in to find a midwife. Only by the time she came back, the teen had given
birth in the backseat. She had only noticed the baby bump 45 minutes earlier.
