PROJECT TITLE
“CHECK It Out”
GMA News launched its election advocacy, “Pusuan ang Totoo,” a call to stand

for what is true, to fight against corruption and disinformation, and to choose leaders

who will truly serve the country.

The launch was hosted by GMA News and Public Affairs anchors Vicky Morales

and Mike Enriquez, who made his first public appearance after a heart bypass operation

in September.

Relative to this project, the team intends to launch a more localized version which

will be called “CHECK it out” wherein the scope is only within the vicinity of Intramuros.

Like what the name entails, it urges the voters to check out the necessary information

on voting procedures and even those who they must vote first before literally checking

their ballots. This campaign would be primarily comprised of lecture series on voter’s

education.
BIG IDEA
Key Insights: (1) Millennials are absorbed in their day to day activities, sometimes

dismissing far more important issues that involve the welfare of many, and; (2)

Millennials want to be part of a movement that will make a difference.

The Challenge: Informing the voters, especially Millennials on the importance of

checking the background of the politicians running for position, checking the actual

process of election all before checking their ballot.

According to the YouthVote Philippines toolkit, registering to vote is the first step

towards becoming an active and engaged voter. In the Philippines, this is the only way

that gives every Filipino the passport to elect the next leaders of the country. Voter’s

registration and voter’s capability to cast their own ballots and secure its correctness

are two major exercises of our right to suffrage as enshrined in Section 1, Article V of the

1987 Constitution to wit, “Suffrage may be exercised by all citizens of the Philippines not

otherwise disqualified by law, who are at least eighteen years of age, and who shall have

resided in the Philippines for at least one year, and in the place wherein they propose to

vote, for at least six months immediately preceding the election. No literacy, property, or

other substantive requirement shall be imposed on the exercise of suffrage.”

As a nation rich in history and struggle for freedom, our country becomes stronger

when citizens of different ages, backgrounds, sectors and groups participate thus is this

initiative to promote voter’s education. It is in the height of the election (from registration

to education to voting) shows the true meaning of people power – voting right and voting

in order for our voices to be heard.

The Big Idea: YOUR CHECK IS A BIG DEAL. Make the target audience walk in the shoes

of a decision maker. Make them feel involved in the process of voting. Make it a big deal

by informing them about the weight of the decision they will make. The campaign will

anchor on the 3 Checks Outs: politicians’ background, election process before checking

out their ballot.

OBJECTIVES
The campaign aims to promote voter’s education particularly among the youth

situated in Intramuros through simultaneous lecture series and digital information

dissemination. Moreover, it intends to accomplish the following tasks:

1. Update the voter’s education tool kit by YouthVote Philippines as a basis;

2. Gather thirty (30) volunteers who will serve as facilitators; five (5) for each barangay;

3. Coordinate with the six (6) barangays in Intramuros;

4. Ensure participation of at least thirty (30) youth voters per barangay every session;

5. Publish a Facebook page and gain 1,000 number of likes in one month;

6. Conduct five (5) lecture series; and

7. Get above satisfactory rating with the evaluation form to be distributed after the whole

series.
COMMUNICATION TOOL
To promote Pusuan ang Totoo together with the Check it out campaign, the following

communication tools are to be used:

1. There would be #PusuanAngTotoo and #AlaminMo (not final) hashtags

circulating online to be used by different social media platform users to promote not

only GMA’s advocacy, but also voter’s education. These hashtags would be used to

bring awareness and disseminate information online. With that, the campaign could

reach higher audiences.

2. Facebook page about the campaign will also be created. That is where the

announcements, schedules, and other information would be posted to make the people

knowledgeable with regards to the campaign. Also, the said platform could be one of the

tools to be used to know the evaluation of the youth to the campaign.

3. Discussion forums would also be a great tool to be used
