Intervention Strategy
What is an Intervention Strategy?
An intervention strategy is a study plan that is developed with your Course Progress Advisor to
address and reduce the causes of academic failure during your time at the University. A
strategy offers you additional assistance to help you improve your academic performance and
should be implemented as soon as possible to promote future success in your studies.
Once an Intervention Strategy form has been completed and approved by your Course Progress
Advisor, your student record will be updated. You will receive a SOLSmail message
acknowledging receipt of the Intervention Strategy Form.
The Intervention Strategy form must be completed in consultation with your Course Progress
Advisor. After your meeting, the Course Progress Advisor will email the form to Student
Administration for processing and you will receive a confirmation via SOLS.
If your course status is Active, you are still able to see your Course Progress Advisor, or access
an appropriate support service on campus if you are experiencing difficulties.
You may first need to meet with an associate dean, registrar or academic advisor in your
Division to discuss your strategy. They will help with advice about your choice of subjects, your
study load and any other study-related issues. Contact your Divisional Enrolment Team to
arrange this.
You may be required to enrol in certain subjects or take a reduced study load
You will be encouraged to access JCU's Learning Centre service and explore and participate in:
Workshops on the Cairns and Townsville campuses for writing skills and general study skills
Workshop notes
If you do not meet the conditions of your intervention strategy in the next teaching period or
trimester, or if you do not meet the minimum academic standards for your course, you may
have restrictions placed on your enrolment. In the most extreme situation, you could face
academic suspension or exclusion from your course.
Consequently, it is in your best interests to make a genuine effort with your intervention
strategy.
