Reflection: During this unit, I was actually pleasantly surprised. The class I am working with is

an extremely high class, in which the capabilities are beyond a 2nd grade level. They were very
enthusiastic about this lesson and the incentive to work was built in to the unit. I started off

telling the kids that they are completely in charge of making this party happen. If something was

not quite right or we didn’t have enough of something it would be on them. This caused them to

want to work hard, but most importantly, they got to see the real-life application of math.

Something that could have gone better was the making of the party hats. I observed that

most of the students did not read the directions thoroughly and it caused the party hats to look a

little distorted, especially the hat string length.

Overall the party was successful, and the students worked very hard to apply the math

devices previously learned. The students’ application of learned math was successful and the

party went smoothly.
