Cancer is the third leading cause of deaths in Fiji.
The vision of the Fiji Cancer Society is nothing short then
“A cancer free Fiji”, taking a proactive stance in combatting cancer from all
angles. In doing so we need to “Stand together so no one fights alone”
In 2018, the Society celebrates 25 years of existence; whilst reflecting on the
past successes, we at the Society have over the past couple of years grown to
embrace a holistic approach to Cancer control and prevention.
I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone who have supported the
Society in the aim of a Cancer Free Fiji.
Whoever you are, YOU have the power to reduce the impact of cancer for
yourself, the people you love and for the world.

The Fiji Cancer Society aims to ensure that
individuals who need support as a result of the
impact of cancer have access to what they
need.
Our main is for our national community to be
free from Cancer by embracing holistic
approach towards Patient and Family care.

On the 15th of November, the Fiji
Cancer Society received a new vehicle
from Kontiki Finance LTD. With our
new vehicle this has allowed the
Society to increase its services such

visitations and one was for patients

HEALTH MINISTRY SIGNS
AGREEMENT WITH FIJI
CANCER SOCIETY
27 AUGUST 2018 - Fiji’s combined efforts
for cancer control was strengthened
through the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) between the
Ministry of Health and Medical Services
and the Fiji Cancer Society.
This joint-agreement will (a) Improve the
holistic care of Oncology patients and
families (b) maintain a shared
understanding of the roles and
responsibilities for each party in
surrounding each other to achieve goals of
the National Oncology Policy and (c)
maintain mutual support between the
parties in sharing of data and other
resources where possible.

OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

AREAS The Society organized outreach programmes with
invites from various NGO's to be part of their

Nairai travelled to Vusasivo & Natewa in Vanualevu, Yaroi
Yaroi in Malolo and Nairai in the Lomaiviti province to
Natewa create awareness on breast cancer and also
conduct bra fitting.
The Vanualevu outreach was accompanied by the
Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Club members who
created awareness on prostate cancer for men and
the Fiji Cancer Society representatives on breast
and cervical cancer with the help of our cancer
champions Mereoni Taginadavui & Nanise Marama.
With all our outreach programmes our main aim is to
educate the community on the rising cancers in Fiji, its
signs & symptoms and most importantly Early

With Outreach Programmes, the Society Women's Expo
conducts Bra fitting along with awareness and Post Mastectomy:
screening in partnership with the Reproductive & Lautoka
Family Health Association Fiji. Suva
Bra fitting with a gift of love is something that we North
want to gift to our women in Fiji and we are
grateful to our supporters Lily Bliss to you for
providing bras and many more accessories.
The Society is duly blessed and grateful to all
our supporters from overseas and in Fiji, in their
pledge to assist the patients and their families in
their journey with Cancer.

PINKTOBER 2018
WOMEN CANCER
Pinktober Symposium AWARENESS MONTH
Pink Walk
Pinktober morning As a prelude to the launch of our 2018
tea/awareness talk PINKTOBER CAMPAIGN, the Society with the
Fiji Cancer Society
Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Fiji
Open Day
National University – held the annual
‘PINKTOBER SYMPOSIUM’ at the FNU’s
Pasifika Campus.
The Society also partnered once again with ANZ
Bank, to organize our annual walk dubbed ‘PINK
WALK’ – which was a huge success!
Participants were required to attend this event
decked in ‘Pink’. The event was held on Saturday
morning, the 29th of September.
A ‘Gold Coin’ registration was levied ($1 or $2)
and an estimated 300 people turned up despite

SUVA GOLDEN OLDIES
RUGBY CLUB

The Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Club have


been a major partner in creating awareness
on Prostate Cancer.
Last year, Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Club
kicked off with the Balls & Beards Rugby
Prostate Awareness done by festival which provided free screening for
staffs of the Suva Golden men followed by Prostate Cancer
Oldies Rugby Club members awareness.

25 YEARS OF EXISTENCE

2018 was also commemorated for the Fiji Cancer Society's 25 years of
existence.
The Society was established in 1993 in the aim to provide assistance for
those living with cancer and since then, the Society continues to grow in its
services to cancer sufferers.
Fiji Cancer Society celebrated its existence on the 14th of October 2018
with a church service at the Pacific Tertiary Evangelistic Center where it
was attended by loved ones of a cancer survivor and families of those who
lost a loved one through Cancer.

An evening to say "Thank You" to all our partners, Stakeholders,


Sponsors, and Survivors.
The evening was attended by representatives from our partners,
stakeholders sponsors, volunteers and a night to honor our survivors
for all that they do in creating awareness for Cancer.
We would not have been able to continue with the work that we have
been entrusted with if it wasn't for YOU!.
