1. Veterinary Medicine
Mission:
To train veterinary professionals competent
Zootechnicians, with ethical and moral values to face and
solve problems of veterinary medicine, animal production
and public health, with social commitment and respect for
the environment in order to achieve human and animal
welfare.

View:
In the next five years the Veterinary Medicine and
Zootechnics Career will improve its position in the Ecuadorian society and in the national
university system, with academic excellence in the professional areas of animal production,
veterinary medicine and public health with respect to the environment and social commitment.

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

The Veterinary Zootechnician is the professional whose fundamental premise is to apply the
knowledge, skills and abilities in the use and management of human, financial, natural and
social resources; of genetic, health, nutritional, productive and reproductive processes; of
primary and secondary products, as well as the social, economic and environmental impacts of
agricultural systems based on human well-being with ethics and responsibility.
PROFILE OF EGRESS

The graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the Central University
of Ecuador will have the ability to:

Diagnose, Prevent and Treat clinically and / or surgically the diseases of domestic, wild,
exotic and aquatic animals. Plan, direct and execute prevention programs and control of diseases
that affect animals, zoonoses and diseases of economic interest. Interpret the various physical,
technological and laboratory procedures applied in veterinary medicine. Improve productive
performance, establishing livestock management programs and encouraging the creation of
microenterprises. Ensure the safety of food, care for the environment and at the same time
ensure human health. Generate knowledge through research in the areas of veterinary medicine,
public health and animal production.
2. Biological Sciences
The Faculty of Biological Sciences, based on the requirements of local and national
development, trains third level professionals and is in a process of academic transition; in the
semester February - September 2017, the implementation of the new Biology Degree began,
whose structure and curricular mesh guarantee the training of high quality professionals, who
will obtain the title of Biologists in correspondence with the new Regulation of harmonization
of the nomenclature of professional degrees and academic degrees conferred by Higher
Education Institutions of Ecuador.

The academic scenarios of the biologists that make up the Faculty and Career in Biology are
related to the fields of bio-knowledge, bioprospecting, biomedicine, Biodiversity.
The Faculty also has the Career (not in force) of Biological and Environmental Sciences, whose
last cohort of students is studying the third semester; In the course of the next three years, the
students of this career will obtain the title of Graduates in Biological and Environmental
Sciences.

Currently, the Faculty is in the phase of curricular design and studies of relevance for the
implementation of several postgraduate programs in function of the national requirements and
the demands of fourth level biologists professionals in the context of the productive and energy
scenarios of the country.

Our graduates in Biology and Environmental Sciences are professionals who:
 They lead processes from critical, creative and systematic thinking, they are innovators
and entrepreneurs with a local, regional and global perspective.
 They have personal values focused on personal and social development and
transformation from the exercise of responsible local and global citizenship.
 They design and lead research, dissemination and scientific development projects.
 Plan and manage projects, programs, strategies and interdisciplinary scenarios related to
the management, conservation and management of biodiversity and natural resources.

Graduate profile of the Biology Degree (redesign, in force)

At the end of his studies, the Biologist analyzes the structure and function of life at the level of
molecules, genes, cells, species, populations, communities and ecosystems, and their
interrelations, considering ecological and evolutionary aspects, using methodologies,
scientific and innovative field and laboratory techniques and instruments in fields such as
molecular biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics.

The professional links scientific knowledge to develop basic research and


applied to bio-knowledge, bioprospecting and sustainable management of the
biological Diversity; to promote ecological and social benefits linked to good living,
in response to emerging health problems, loss of biodiversity, climate change and
food safety.
