Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease

Coronary heart disease is one of the main cause of mortality in the world,
both in developed and to developing countries. The number of sufferers is increasing
every year. CHD is a degenerative disease associated with unhealthy lifestyles and
socioeconomic societies. CHD occurs due to the presence of cholesterol or fat deposits
which accumulate in the walls of the arteries that block and reduce the amount of blood
that can flow through the arteries .These obstructions block nutrients and oxygen from
getting to the heart’s muscles, which can then weaken the heart’s ability to pump blood
or even cause it to completely fail until death. Therefore, as in the title of the essay
above. The writer will discuss about the prevention of coronary heart disease.
Coronary heart disease is also known as atherosclerotic heart disease,
ischemic heart disease and coronary artery disease. This is the result of narrowing or
blockage of the coronary arteries by plaque formed by fat/cholesterol in the artery wall
or a process known as atherosclerosis. There are many risk factors associated with
coronary heart disease due to unhealthy life styles, smoking, high cholesterol in the
blood, hypertension, obesity, lack of physical activity, and Diabetes Mellitus.
There are a number of life style changes or self-management steps that can
be taken to prevent or reduce the risk of developing coronary heart disease, the first
quit smoking or better yet never start because smoking causes coronary heart disease
by lowering HDL levels, increase blood coagubilitas and damage the endothelial so it
can triggner the occurrence of atherosclerosis. The second, keeping the diet by
consuming foods containing unsaturated or low fat, found in olive oil and fish, high
fiber, and low in salt and sugar because foods that contain saturated fat or high fat can
cause elevated levels of LDL in the blood and cause hypertension. The third is exercise,
one of the prevention efforts of people with heart disease is to exercise regularly.
Exercise is a sport that is not so heavy but can be done regularly so that heart health
becomes awake. The exercise can lose weight for people with obesity. As well, the
fourth is avoiding stress. Stress can make people who have heart disease can have a
sudden heart attack. This will be dangerous for the sufferer because it can happen
anywhere and anytime.
In conclusion, self-awareness by early prevention and education to minimize
risk factors is important in helping prevent and control coronary heart disease.
