3. Executive Summary

Engro Foundation will be undertaking the task of installing solar panels with Nizam Energy on the premise
of Shaukat Khanum Hospital. With recent studies on increase fuels cost, Shaukat Khanum aims to reduce
is energy cost by sourcing at least 30% of its energy through solar panels. This will also decrease the cost
of electricity from the current electric utility company. Engro Foundation plans to boost the brand and
reputation for Shaukat Khanum Hospital by promoting its plans to become a more sustainable hospital.

4. Project Purpose
4.1. Business Need / Problem

Shaukat Khanum Hospital utilizes mass amounts of electricity per kwh, which is necessary for the
success of its daily operations. Currently over 90% of its electricity is sourced from non-renewable
sources of energy which have negative impacts to the environment. This electricity also is very costly
for such hospital that runs on trust. Engro Foundation now plans to source at least 30% of its electricity
from renewable sources of energy, such as solar panels, which will also contribute to lower electric cost.
That will help Shaukat Khanum to save money on its Electricity bill and spend those on its patients.
4.2. Business Objectives

Strategic Plan Element

- Green Supply Chain Initiative: Engro Foundation plans to source 30% of electricity from
renewable sources of energy by 2020.
- Enhance Brand/Reputation: Engro Foundation aims enhance the life of people in related
communities by providing better life style and healthcare soloution.Engro efforts are directed
towards the areas and communities where healthcare problem is one of the major dilemmas.
- Reduce Energy Cost: Engro plans to reduce electric costs by 15%, which in turn will reduce the
cost of services for patients in the future and more patients will be entertain.
5. Project Overview
5.1. Project Deliverable Description

This project is designed to get one step closer to the green movement. Using solar panels as the
primary source of electricity for our clients, The Engro Foundation will help the hospital save on
electricity bills as well as saving planet earth. What is included in the project is all the steps
towards installing solar panels including the measurements, blueprints, accruing contractors,
installing solar panels and 5 years warranty on installed solar panels. What is not included in the
project is what happens after 5 years, the advertisement regarding the green environment and the
sudden black out that the hospital might have in the time of instalment.
5.2. Scope

This proposal covers an introduction to solar energy. Today in 21st century it has become a necessity to
use an alternative form of energy to save non-renewable resources. Solar energy is the one kind of energy
which is available in abundance and almost throughout the year. Use of solar panels in the building can
save a lot of energy and money. The use of solar panels has increased a lot in recent years in both
residential as well as commercial projects.
This statement covers how the solar energy can be used as an alternative to electricity, in what ways it will
benefit the hospital, its staff and the patients. It also includes how the solar panels will be installed at the
site, where shall they be located, what amount of electricity can they generate, its maintenance, budget
needed for the completion of the project, its duration and how shall it be managed by the staff.
The use of solar panels at the hospital will reduce the utility cost required every month by a great extent.
This money saved can be used in various ways such as installing better medical equipment’s, renovation,
increase the hospital space to fit in more patients, ambulance service, etc.

5.3. Assumptions

 The solar panel should be able to function for 24 hours by storing the energy during day time
and then utilizing the it at night.
 Implementation of a backup generator in case he panels malfunction or for extreme weather.
 The control room shall be easily accessible in times of emergency.
 Installation of solar panels shall bring down the cost of energy consumption.
 Power will be used from the main utility grid during cloudy seasons.

5.4. Constraints

After the instalment the panels must function properly and provide the electricity for the hospital
100%.
The project members wouldn’t intrude with any operation going on inside the hospital.
The project members will estimate all the requirement for the project based on the blueprint given to
them by hospital board.
The project will deliver what is listed in the scope and on the charter.
5.5. Deliverables Out of Scope

Warranty of 5 years on the solar panels are through the company providing the solar panels, project
team will assist you with any requirement.
The discount on the panels are through one financial bank, Project team will assist you with the
process.
Any question and concerns regarding the panels could be discussed with project members at any given
time.
