What’s new in

Welcome to
FARO CAM2 Measure 10.5 is an all-in-one metrology software for users that are looking for a
single, complete solution for all tactile measurement and non-contact 3D scanning
applications. CAM2 Measure 10.5 is compatible with FARO‘s world class metrology hardware
and is heavily utilized by the world‘s leading manufacturers to ensure product quality through
CAD and non-CAD inspection.

In this version, CAM2 Measure has taken yet another big step forward in providing capable
software to be used with FARO’s scanning devices such as the FARO Edge ScanArm HD and
the FARO 3D Imager AMP.

In addition to the Scanning capabilities, tactile measurement users will also find some good
improvements in this version. We have continued improving our GD&T capabilities and have
provided special focus on providing GD&T unique reporting capabilities, unseen in other
metrology software solutions. Our Laser Tracker users will also benefit from added capabilities
like the ability to perform 2-Face static point measurements and presetting of adapter tooling
for the measurements.

And, in response to the continuous need for automation of the measurement process, we
continued to improve on the QuickTools capabilities in order to simplify manual repetitive
measurement processes so that these can be performed in a more repeatable way without
the need to be an expert metrologist.

This document brings you a detailed description of each of the new capabilities of this new
version, enabling you to quickly learn about its new features and get you started on learning
how to use them.

1 User Interface
We will start by highlighting some generic changes that have been introduced in the
software’s User Interface. These may not explicitly bring new measurement or analysis
capabilities but are aimed at improving the software’s usability, hence increasing the
productivity of our end users.

1.1 Migration of User Profiles

Our users now have the ability of migrating any User Interface customizations into CAM2
Measure 10.5. The migration will take into consideration all customizations, including
Preferences, User Profiles, customized
ribbons, report templates, shortcuts, Custom
Tolerance Schemes, Document Header
information among other information.

When CAM2 Measure 10.5 starts up the first

time, it will check if a previous version of
CAM2 Measure is installed. If so, the user will
be presented with the Migration Wizard
dialog. Within the dialog, the user can select
which portions of their user-defined settings
they wish to import from the older version of
CAM2 Measure.

The user can chose from the following:

- Preferences: choosing this option will ensure that the default preferences from an
earlier version of CAM2 Measure will be migrated to version 10.5
- Profiles: The saved User Profiles from previous versions can also be imported choosing
this option
- Report Templates: the report templates used in an older version are migrated
- Settings: These are the general settings
- Surveys: If you have saved Survey templates, they can also be migrated.

Once you have determined which settings you wish to import, press the OK button and you
can start using CAM2 Measure 10.5 as it was setup in your previous version.

1.2 File Icon

The icon used for CAM2 Measure 10 files (*.fcd) has been changed to allow users
to distinguish it from the icon that is used to launch the software. The FCD file icon
now has a white background and blue text.

1.3 CAD View / Point Cloud Coloring

As a means of providing a better visualization
experience of our CAD and scan data, the CAD
View background color and default Point Cloud
colors have been changed. The CAD View
background gradient goes from the dark FARO
blue to a lighter blue color and the point clouds are
colored in a dark grey color.

1.4 Whisker options

A new option has been added to the Preferences that allows users to control how CAM2
Measure calculates and displays Whiskers. Our standard method for calculating the whiskers is
based on the position of the readings relative to the best-fit geometry, taking into account the

1
What’s new in

material condition of the part. In other words, a reading that is outside of the material is
considered to have a positive deviation, and corresponding red color, whereas a reading that
is inside the material is considered to have a negative deviation and corresponding blue color.
This is what is currently being designated as Material Whiskers in CAM2 Measure 10.5. Two
additional options for Whisker calculation and coloring have been introduced:

- Nominal Whiskers: as the name indicates, these whiskers will be drawn as a line from
drawn from the reading position to the matching location on the Nominal feature. The
whisker color will obey the same rules as the Material whiskers: a reading that is outside
the material as defined by the Nominal feature is red and positive and in the opposite
case will be negative and blue
- Size Whiskers: These Whiskers are computed relative to the best-fit geometry, in the
same way as the Material whiskers, however the color and sign is independent of the
material condition of the feature but is instead determined by whether the size of the
geometry is bigger or smaller at the reading location. Using a circle as an example, if
a reading is outside the circumference of the best fit circle, this means that the radius
of the circle at that location is too big, hence has a positive deviation, and therefore
red. A reading that is inside the best-fit circle indicates a smaller radius and therefore
represents a negative, hence blue, deviation.

Nominal Whiskers Size Whiskers

To change the behavior of the Whiskers is, go to the Preferences and look for the Whisker
Calculation mode preference in the Display > CAD View section. The change will affect all
Whiskers of the given document. To set one of these Whisker Modes as default, make the
change and press the Save to Defaults button in the Preferences Dialog.

1.5 Licensing: warn when license is about to expire

Users that are running time-limited licenses will be warned when their license is about to expire.
This will allow the user to take appropriate actions prior to the expiration of the license.

When starting the application, a message will be displayed to the user when a time-limited
license is present. The user can chose to not see this dialog by pressing the Do not show again
checkbox prior to closing the dialog.

2 Point Cloud Enhancements

The latest releases of CAM2 Measure 10 have shown a clear improvement in its ability to
acquire and work with Point Clouds. It is hence no surprise that CAM2 Measure 10.5 has
significant improvements in this area.

2.1 File Storage option

CAM2 Measure 10.5 is equipped with a file storage mechanism, also known as Out of Core,
which enables the storage of all measurement data straight to a file on the computer hard
drive. With the appearance of scanning devices capable of scanning extremely large
amounts of data per second, such as FARO’s HD LLP, it has become immediately noticeable
that most computers are not capable of capturing and storing the data over longer periods
of time.

The new File Storage option allows the user to ensure that all scan data is captured and stored
on the hard drive so that it can be accessed later, if needed, for further analysis. This allows
operators to store all the data from their scans without putting a burden on the computer RAM
and processor to have to handle all these points for analysis. This capability enablers CAM2
Measure 10.5 to capture in excess of 1 billion points from multiple FARO Edge ScanArm® HD
devices at the same time.

The Use File Storage option is a preference that is located in the Measurement > Point Cloud
section of the Preferences. By default, CAM2 Measure 10.5 has this option turned on.

3
What’s new in

2.2 Scanning Filters

Working hand in hand with the File Storage option of the previous section are the Scanning
Filters. As mentioned, it is not necessary, or even advisable, to bring in all the data that comes
from the scanning device into CAM2 Measure 10. There is an unnecessary burden that comes
from extreme data density that does not bring added value to the metrology or reverse
engineering yet is prone to cause impact on the software’s performance.

The Scanning Filters are what determines how much of the scan data will be brought into the
computer memory and used within CAM2 Measure 10. The None filter can be set which results
in every point coming from your scanning device being loaded into CAM2 Measure. The
following Filter options are provided:

2.2.1 Decimation
The decimation filter allows the user to reduce data that comes in on each line of a Laser Line
Probe. When using a decimation filter, you can determine the decimation factor, which
represents how many points are considered for every point taken into the software. In other
words, CAM2 Measure will take 1 point for every N points on the line, where N is the value
specified in the Decimation value field.

4
What’s new in

2.2.2 Grid Filter

The Grid filter is mostly interesting to remove overlap in the scan data. The Grid filter will break
down the space into small 3D cubes and will only accept one point for every cube in to CAM2
Measure 10. The Grid filter can be selected in the Preferences. The user can choose from 5
preset grid sizes: Finest, Fine, Normal, Coarse and Coarsest. In addition to the presets, the user
can also select Custom and define a personalized Grid size. The value that is specified will
correspond to the Edge length of the cube used to determine which points to take. The point
that is closest to the center of the grid will be the one which will be used within CAM2 Measure
10.

The default scanning filter for CAM2 Measure 10 is the Grid filter set to Coarsest.

2.2.3 Planar Filter

Similar to the Grid filter, the Planar Grid filter is a new way of filtering scan Data into CAM2
Measure 10. The planar grid breaks up space into planar sections and then subdivides the
planes in with a square grid. Similar to the Grid, only one point within the square box will be
brought into CAM2 Measure. As parts have curvature, CAM2 Measure will need to decompose
the part into many small planes, determining which plane each point belongs to and,
subsequently, whether the point is eligible for representing a grid cell or not. The point within a
grid that is closest to the center of the box center will be taken into CAM2 Measure 10. There

5
What’s new in

are 5 preset Planar Grid settings, ranging from Finest to Coarsest, and a Custom setting that
allows the user to define a custom Planar Grid configuration. The Custom setting allows the
user to define:

- Grid size: allowed 2D point to point spacing.

- Thickness: Max planar offset for which a point is eligible to lie on a plane. If the distance
from a point to a plane is greater than this value, it is not eligible to be on that plane
- Threshold: distance used to determine when CAM2 should consider finding a new
plane to represent a set of points
- Quality: parameter that controls how many neighbor grid cells are used to compute
the grid planes.

2.3 Cross-Sections
The Cross-Section capabilities have also been further extended in this version of CAM2
Measure 10.5

2.3.1 Create from Screen

Users are now able to determine a Cross-Section by clicking on the screen to define the cutting
plane and extents of the Cross-Section. To define a Cross-Section from the Screen:

6
What’s new in

1. Run the Cross-Section command from the Construct ribbon:

2. Select the Cross-Section from Screen check box
3. You wlll be asked to draw a line on the screen. Draw the desired cross-section line tnd
then press the Create button.
4. A new Cross-Section is created.

2.3.2 Even Distribution

A new property of the Cross-Section ensures that the Cross-Section is defined by points with an
even distribution rather than a variable density distribution based on the localized scanning
density. This property can be defined in the property page of the Cross-Section, by turning on
the Even Distribution combo-box. By default, CAM2 Measure has Even Distribution turned on
with a default spacing of 1mm.
7
What’s new in

2.3.3 Spline representation

The Cross-Section points can now be connected with a smooth spline curve. To use splines to
connect the cross-section readings, select the respective option from the Connectors Style
gallery of the Cross-Section Analysis mode

When the Spine Connectors option is set for a Cross-Section and it is exported to a CAD file, it
will be exported as a Spline curve and not a Polyline.

2.3.4 Improved hard probe scanning

The hard probed Cross-Sections have also been enhanced in situations where the Cross-
Section is being compared to CAD. In such cases, the probe center may not be on the cross
-section plane when the touch point is on the plane so the points must be extracted when the
touch point is crossing the plane. This compensation mode is only possible when a CAD file has
been loaded and there is an alignment from the device relative to the part.

CAM2 Measure will now compute the touch point, based on the current alignment to the CAD
model and take a point whenever the touch point crosses the plane and not when the probe
center crosses the plane. The end result will now have all measured points on the cutting plane.

2.4 Point Cloud Alignments

The Point Cloud alignment capabilities of CAM2 Measure 10.5 have been significantly
improved. The algorithms have been enhanced to improve speed and consistency and the
immediate result from such improvements allows for a different and more user-friendly
workflow for the Point Cloud Alignment

2.4.1 New proposed Workflow

To align a Point Cloud to a CAD Model:

1. Scan your part. It is advised that you scan around it as much as possible
2. Go to the Alignments ribbon and
press the Align Point Cloud
button.
3. You enter into the Point Cloud
Alignment split view. Note that in
CAM2 Measure 10.5, the Include
Point Cloud is automatically
turned on by default.
4. Press the Solve button to get the
first alignment. If you have a
clean point cloud, you will get a good alignment.
5. Only in cases where the first alignment does not provide satisfactory results is it required
to pick point pairs. One will suffice for the most cases but a second may be added if
you need further refinement in the alignment.

2.4.2 Best Practices

The alignment results can be significantly affected by the scan data that is used. Our
recommendation is that you follow these best practices when preparing your scans for
alignment to CAD:

1. Scan around the part as much as possible. Having data that is only on one side of the
part may sway the results and produce a bad alignment
2. Eliminate outlier data that is not on the part. For the most cases we recommend using
a clipping plane when the part is set on a table. If the outlier data is from fixtures or
other eternal artifacts, it is advised to remove it manually.

9
What’s new in

2.5 Edge Scanning

The new Edge scanning capabilities allow you to scan a part for the sole purpose of extracting
data on trim edges so that that you may perform analysis of the trimming process of your sheet
metal parts.

When you run the new Edge Scan command, you are prompted with the measurement
properties window, allowing you to pre-set the Edge scanning settings you wish to use.

2.5.1 Edge scanning settings

The Edge scanning algorithm works only for Laser Line probes since the detection of the edges
is made on a line-by-line basis. In this measurement, CAM2 Measure analyzes each line and
looks for straight edges on the scan line. Once it has all the straight edges it analyzes the length
of each edge and looks for the proximity of sequential edges. It also analyzes the angle
between the edges to determine if they are close enough to 90° as we would expect from a
part edge. All that information is used to determine if an edge is found and, when found, the
lines that have been identified as being at the edge are intersected to compute the Edge
point. Note that the Edge points are not directly obtained from the LLP but are computed
based on the edges.

The command then allows users to choose between 5 preset Edge Tolerances, ranging from
Finest to Coarsest and then supports a Custom option where the user can define the algorithm
settings, as described above:

- Minimum Edge Length: this is the size of the smallest straight edge that will be
considered for the Edge detection algorithm. This must always be smaller than your
material thickness if you measure the edge of sheet metal.
- Minimum Distance From Edge: this is the smallest distance allowed between two
straight edges that can be considered to calculate an Edge point
- Angle to Edge Threshold: This is the allowance from 90 in the consideration for two
segments to determine if they will make an acceptable Edge point. If you are looking
for sharp 90° edges, this should be a small number. If you want
to allow for dull edges, make this a larger number. A 5°
tolerance means the algorithm will accept edges that are
within 85° and 95°

3 GD&T
GD&T is a core need of the vast majority of CAM2 Measure users. In this version, the software
brings significant improvements, namely in the calculation of Datum alignments and GD&T
Position. It was also determined that there is a need for providing a workspace area for
managing GD&T and that the end goal should be to allow our users to replicate their GD&T
prints directly within CAM2 Measure 10.5

3.1 New GD&T Mode

All GDT is now performed within a new Mode.
This mode provides the users with all the tools
needed to satisfy their GD&T needs without the
clutter of all the remaining tools that are
contained within CAM2 Measure.

The Mode consists of 3 main areas: the Ribbon, the feature list and the Feature 3D View

The Ribbon contains all GD&T commands available in CAM2 Measure:

- Commands to include and Exclude features in the Mode

- Commands to manage Datums
- Commands to create Orientation, Location, Profile and Runout GD&Ts
- Commands for managing Patterns
- View Management commands
- Label Management commands and
- Saved Views commands

3.1.1 Add / Remove GD&T Features

The GD&T Mode will only explicitly include features that have been included for being part of
the GD&T Mode. When you enter it the first time for every document, the selected features will
be automatically added. To add other features, use the Include Features button. The Exclude
Features can be used to remove features from the GD&T Mode.

Note: you can only exclude features that do not have any GD&Ts defined.

11
What’s new in

3.1.2 Assign Datum

The datum assignments are really easy in the new GD&T Mode.
With 3 simple steps you can easily define any datum you need:

1. Select the feature you wish to assign a datum to in the list

of features
2. Select the datum letter you wish to assign to the feature.
a. The next available Datum letter is assigned to you,
by default
b. In the dropdown you will provide you the next N
Datum letters, where N is defined by the Datum
suggestions preference in the Tolerances section
c. You can also type in the datum letter(s) directly in
the dropdown selector
3. Press the type of datum you wish to assign

The matching Datum letter(s) will appear beside the appropriate feature.

3.1.3 Add GD&T

To define the GD&T for a given feature:

1. Select the feature you wish to assign a GD&T to

2. Press the Edit Properties button or double-click the feature from the list
3. The set of previously assigned tolerances is shown in the middle of the View
4. Press the corresponding Tolerance you wish to assign from the Ribbon. You may choose
from Orientation, Location, Profile and Runout tolerance types.
5. Edit the tolerance value, if necessary
6. Add the appropriate Material condition, Datums and Datum Material Condition for
Datums that are Features of Size

The GD&T is now defined and will appear in the Feature Information, Label and report for that
feature.

12
What’s new in

3.1.4 Patterns
Patterns can be defined for groups of features that exist in a pattern (for example a Bolt Hole
Circle) and that may need to be tolerance as such (pattern). Once a Pattern has been
defined, you are allowed to determine one or more Position tolerances on it and the whole
pattern is controlled, independently of the Position of the individual features.

The creation of a Pattern starts with the selection of the features that belong to a Pattern and
then you press the Create button in the Pattern group of command from the ribbon. A Pattern
will be created and all selected features will be placed inside that Pattern.

3.1.5 Views
The creation of Saved Views is a fundamental component of the new GD&T Mode. As
mentioned above, the end goal is to allow the user to print images that look like their prints. In
order to achieve this, the user must be able to save given views that can be added to a report.

To create a View, set the View visibility as you would like to see it in the report and then press
the Capture button from the View Data ribbon group. A Saved View will be added to the Views
folder and it can later be added to the report.

3.2 Partial Datum Schemes

Partial Datum schemes are Datum combinations that do not fully constrain the Datum
alignment. In such cases, special logic must be employed to ensure that the Datum Alignment
is correct. In CAM2 Measure 10.5 we have made a significant effort to properly support all
possible Datum Schemes. The result has been a full supported combination of partial datums.

3.3 Composite Datum

A Composite Datum is a datum that is composed by two or more datums. Those datums will
typically be parallel and their composite is effectively a bisector datum.

3.4 Datum Mobility Modifiers

Datum Mobility is supported to allow Datum Alignments to move, if necessary, based on the
size factor if the features / datums. When applied to a Datum of size, the tolerance value will
be more or less relaxed depending on the size of the feature. For example, if the datum is a
hole and the actual hole has a diameter that is larger than the nominal in such cases a bonus
tolerance can be added since effectively, movement of the datum will be allowed if that
allows a better fit for the feature that is being toleranced.

13
What’s new in

3.5 Surface Profile with DRF

You can now assign a Datum reference to a Surface Profile and the value will be calculated
according to the specified Datum Alignment.

Note: in the current version, CAM2 Measure can only calculate the Profile when a fully
constrained Datum Alignment is specified. Partial Datum alignments are still not supported for
Surface Profile.

3.6 Reporting
The reporting support for the new GD&T Mode has been extended to allow the users to add
the Saved Views from that mode to be added to the Report. The can be added to the Report
List and will then appear as a CAD View in the report according to the order in which they are
placed in the Report List. GD&T Views can be mixed with regular feature reporting.

4 CAD Management
There is a continued trend in our customers to need CAD data to perform part inspection. In
some cases, they face the challenge of receiving large CAD models with much more details
than is necessary for their application where in others they are not supplied a CAD file at all
and must control the part quality. The two areas of improvement each focusses on each of
these challenges.

4.1 Layer Management

CAM2 Measure 10 has provided Layer management from the very beginning however as our
users need to work with more complex CAD models so much the inspection software need to
provide the necessary tools to more easily manage Layers.

4.1.1 Layer Management in CAD Workspace

The first noticeable change is that all Layer Management takes place within the CAD
Workspace. Two new command groups have been added: Layers and Selection Tools. The
Layers ribbon group contains all the necessary commands to create, manage and remove
layers. The Selection Tools ribbon group provides now a rectangular selection mode as well as
a selection option, Include Hidden Faces, which allows you to control whether the selection

14
What’s new in

will go through the part and select faces that are occluded or if it should only select what is
visible to the user.

4.1.2 Creating a new Layer

The creation of the new Layer is quite simple. Press the Add button from
the Layers ribbon group and the dialog to define the Layer properties
appears. Set all appropriate properties and press the OK button.

To add surfaces to the layer, select the surfaces in the CAD view, either by picking on individual
surfaces or by using the rectangle selection tool. As with other selection modes, pressing the
CTRL and SHIFT keys during the selection will remove and add to an existing selection. The
selected faces can be added to a given layer by clicking the right mouse button and selecting
the desired layer.

4.2 STL support

CAM2 Measure 10.5 has been enhanced to support loading
STL mesh files that can be used for Point Cloud comparison.
The STL file format will be displayed as a CAD file format in
the file selector window you see when you run the Import
CAD command.

Once loaded, you can align Point Cloud data to the STL
which will then be color coded as if it were being compared
to a native CAD model.

When operating with a STL mesh file, you are able to perform
a Point Cloud alignment and to get a color map of your scan
relative to the mesh. Cross-Sections and other more complex
CAD operations will be supported in a later version.

5 QuickTools
Every version of CAM2 Measure has included QuickTools capabilities that are geared towards
simplifying the user’s workflow and to automate repetitive processes to avoid as much manual
work as possible. In that respect, CAM2 Measure 10.5 is no different. The one thing that is
different in this version is the focus of our changes in QuickTools: they are geared towards
supporting more and better automation of our customer’s processes. With Automation in mind,
the added steps are focused on supporting QuickTools Workflows where the user input is
reduced to a minimum.

5.1 QuickTools
In this section we describe the QuickTools that have been added and how they support the
Automation of a repeat part measurement workflow

5.1.1 Freeze / Unfreeze recalculations

Freeze recalculations blocks all document recalculations from happening while running the
QuickTools program. This capability is helpful to avoid expensive recalculations while
performing automation tasks. The Unfreeze step can be added to allow all pending
recalculations to take place. If the Unfreeze is not added, all pending recalculations will occur
at the end of the program.

5.1.2 Extract feature

This QuickTool step is used to explicitly extract a feature, regardless of the Freeze status of the
QuickTools program. This step is used hand-in-hand with Freeze recalculation to force the
extraction of a feature at a very specific time. This step can become helpful to extract
alignment features.

5.1.3 Set / Solve alignment

Along the same lines of the Extract Feature the Set Alignment step forces the recalculation
and setting of an active alignment. The calculation of an alignment can potentially be an
expensive calculation yet in many cases, it is a required step for automated procedures. This
step sets and or solves an alignment active and can be used in particular to perform a pre-
alignment in cases where feature extraction from Nominal is required

5.1.4 Perform fine registration

The Perform fine Registration step will force the calculation of a fine registration on a selected
registration group. This step supports QuickTools developed for measurements made with an
AMP Imager with a rotary stage where the part can be measured from various rotary stage
angles and then fine registered prior to performing further analysis.

Scans can be pre-registered with rotary stage and/or registration targets. This capability is also
supported by CAM2 Measure 10.5’s new Auto-registration of scans with Targets.

6 Others

6.1 Measurement of 180° bend tubes

CAM2 Measure 10.5 now supports the measurement of 180° bend tubes. This behavior will be
automatic as when CAM2 Measure 10.5 detects the measurement of 2 parallel straight
segments, it will prompt the user to measure one point on the tube bend. This single point will
be sufficient to calculate the bend location. The point must not be at the high point of the
bend, it can be anywhere.

16
What’s new in

6.2 Expand Geometry

In some occasions it may be necessary to extract points from features
that are not point reducible. To supply all points from all geometries in the
construction dialogs would cause the excess of points in the User Interface
when in most cases the points are not necessary.

For such cases where non-center points are necessary, these can be
extracted by using the new Expand Geometry command that is available
from the Context menu. The following Geometries support the Expand
Geometry command:

 Line: Start, End, Midpoint

 Cylinder: Base, Top, Midpoint
 Round Slot: Center1, Center2
 Rectangular Slot: First Corner, Second Corner, Third Corner, Fourth Corner

The points that are created are constructed from the base features and appear in the Feature
Tree. Any of these points can be deleted any time and the Expand Geometry command can
be run more than once for each feature, creating copies of the points in every instance.

6.3 Temperature measurement from HW

All FARO Measurement devices have either internal or external temperature sensors. These
temperature sensors can now be used within CAM2 Measure 10.5 as you would use any other
temperature sensor.

6.4 Tracker
The following enhancements have been developed specifically to support the FARO Laser
Tracker

6.4.1 2-Face Measurement

2-Face measurement is a term used to describe the
measurement of an Uncompensated point taking
one reading in Front-side measurement and a
second point in Back-side measurement. The
resulting point will be a more accurate point as this
method cancels the angular inaccuracy of the
Laser Tracker, favoring the length measurement in
its place.

Setting a 2-Face measurement can either be done

at the preferences level or by editing the properties of an Uncompensated Point.

The Set two Face measurement for uncompensated points preference is located in the
Measurement > Other. The same check box can also be found on the properties page of the
Uncompensated point and can be changed as needed.

6.4.2 Adapter setting per feature

The Tracker tooling settings can now be saved on a feature. The following rules apply:

1. The software will retain the SMR/Adapter (tooling) configuration that is active when
completing a measurement for the first time.

2. The retained data will be attached to the measured feature and used to set the active
tooling when measuring that feature again

3. The user may edit the tooling to use for a given feature from within that feature's
property UI. An option to clear the data is also provided.

4. When no tooling information is stored, subsequently adding readings to that feature

will use the tooling configuration that is currently active for the Tracker

5. If tooling options are changed on subsequent measurements of the feature the tooling
change will be allowed for the measurement but will not override the configured
settings stored in the feature (only editing from the property UI can change the settings
once they are retained)

6. If a feature is initially measured on a Faro Arm there will be not tooling information to
capture. This will result in a feature that has no stored measurement information (as
described in point 4)

7. If a feature containing captured tooling information is subsequently re-measured on a

Faro Arm (or other non-tracker device) the device will use the active probe, ignoring
the stored tooling information. However, the stored information will persist for any future
measurements made with a tracker.

8. QuickTool steps currently have the ability to override the measurement configuration
for a particular feature, this behaviour shall extend to the tooling data as well. This
results in an order of precedence of:

1. QuickTool Configuration
2. Feature Properties
3. Device Defaults

6.4.3 Choose adapter unit system

Some customers may need changing the unit of the
adapter toolkit they are using. The unit of the default
Toolkit that is used in CAM2 Measure can be defined
in the Preferences in the Display > Units > Tracker
Adapters section. The preference is called Default unit
systems and has the default possible values: Auto – the default units defined in the Operating
System’s locale are used; Metric – set the tooling to metric units; Imperial – set the tooling in
Imperial (inches)

6.5 Support FARO SmartProbe

CAM2 Measure is now equipped to support the FARO SmartProbe in single point, time and
distance-based scanning.

6.6 Surface Profile: Fixed versus Floating

In some instances it may be necessary to compute a floating (form) surface profile instead of
the fixed (position) surface profile. Whereas the position profile requires the measured point
cloud to be within tolerance relative to the nominal surface, in the case of the form profile, the
shape of the measured point cloud must match that of the nominal surface, independently of
where the point cloud is located relative to the surface. The image below shows how the two
errors will be calculated on the same point cloud using each of the techniques. Note how the
form error will in the general case provide a smaller value that the position profile calculation.

6.7 Barcode scanner

CAM2 Measure 10.5 is now capable of allowing the user to define a barcode to be assigned
to an FCD file or contained QuickTools program. Whereas in previous versions, the barcode
would always be assigned by CAM2
Measure 10, in this version the user
can scan in a barcode and assign
that barcode to the current
document.

This capability can be accessed from

the File > Generate Barcode
command, bringing up the barcode
management dialog.

To assign a barcode to a given file,

choose the Scanned option in the
Barcode source selection box. You
will then be asked to scan a barcode
that will appear in the Preview
section. Once defined, you can
assign the barcode to the FCD file or
to a given QuickTools program within
this document.
