As our world grows, expands and becomes increasingly more interconnected by various technological advances, the

need for effective communication has become quite clear. Communication has changed significantly as compared to the
previous century. In fact, keeping in touch with one another has been the trademark of 21st century. My mother wasn’t
able to be in touch with her college friends whereas I’m still in with the ones who transferred to different cities in junior
classes. With the global technology advancement, there is a great shift in communication in the 21st century. There has
been the development of social media platforms where people engage in chats and exchange ideas and life experiences.
These social media platforms have changed the world into a global community. When used effectively, they are a good
way of communicating and relaying information between people.

In personal life, we need to communicate to deal with various concerns and problems of daily life. In professional life also,
it is communication that helps us to build healthy relations and credibility with co-workers. Be it offices, schools, colleges
or our friend circle, effective communication is a must. Imagine running a business where people don’t talk to each other.
No one will know what to do and how to do it, and the business will have to close down before long. Lack of
communication will cause various problems in efficiency and productivity. This is a fact that cannot be ignored. In today's
fast-paced business environment, employees at all levels find themselves being asked to handle more tasks, meet more
deadlines, take on more responsibilities, and adapt to more change. Added to these challenges is the constantly shifting
diversity of the workplace, where coworkers cope with generational, gender, age and cultural differences. Communication,
both verbal and nonverbal, is at the foundation of everything we do and say. Moreover, in this age of specialization,
planning, production, sales, advertising, finance, welfare, etc. are handled by different departments. In absence of
effective communication, there would be a serious problem of co-ordination among these departments and there would
only be chaos and confusion in the organization. At school, a student learns how to address issues of peers and how to
respond keeping the others in mind. It is important that a student works towards developing communication skills as it will
help them in the long run. Student life is a foundation and hence, how we communicate in student life will define how we
communicate professionally. A student needs to impart communication through reading, presentation skills, listening,
writing and oral communication. Also, it is important that the teachers have good communication skills so that the students
are clear on what is being taught and can follow in the footsteps of the teachers and become good orators.

At colleges, we are getting geared up to be in the real world. Apart from the studies and the grades, our co-curricular are
extremely important too. And for any of the above, communication is imperative. Nowadays with the advancement in
technology, communicating with each other has become much easier in day to day life. In ten minutes a discussion is
completed on whatsapp and the class is mass bunked. A day before the exam all our doubts are cleared by our own
classmates through whatsapp. Thus the new technologies have helped us in communicating well. Students in future will
become doctors and then we’ll need to communicate effectively with patients. They need empathy, friendliness,
professionalism in their speaking and attitude while interacting with patients. Clear communication about the skills and
knowledge, objective vocabulary in words while communicating with interviewers, confident physical expressions help
students to get a job after the completion of the degree. As we know, a good uncommunicated idea will never benefit us.

Hence, communication is one of the important tools that help us to connect with people. Whether it is a student or a

working professional, smooth communication is something that takes us far ahead. The right communication can help us

to solve a number of issues and resolve problems as well, this is the reason that one should know how to communicate

well. The skills of communication need to be developed so that one is able to interact with people, share our thoughts and

reach out to them. All this requires the correct guidance and self-analysis as well. If our communication is not good, we

may have to face a lot of problems and come across several hurdles in your career as well. Effective communication is

the essence of life and its need increases day by day. Both written and verbal communication has to be powerful so that

one can move ahead in life.
