CHEM 120 – Test #1 on Wednesday, October 4th, 2017


You will write the test during your regular lecture hour. Make sure you
go to the appropriate room. (See page 2 of this document.)
Familiarize yourself now with the instructions that are given on the front
page of the test booklet. (See page 3 of this document.)
Bring your own pens, pencils, a calculator, and UW Student ID card.
You must use a pencil to fill in the ovals on the computer answer card.
(A sample computer answer card is shown page 4 of this document.)
Do not bring any scrap paper, books or notes, or your own periodic table.
We provide a data sheet with a periodic table, fundamental constants,
conversion factors and important equations, just like the one on page 14
of the Course Outline – the pink pages in the Course Notes.

Format of the test:


 multiple-choice format (16 questions, 12 marks total)
 8 questions worth 0.5 marks each  4 marks
 8 questions worth 1 mark each  8 marks
Test #1 covers up to, and including, page 13 of Module 2 in the course
notes. More than half the test is based on Module 0.

Approximate breakdown:
Module 0: 7.5 marks
Module 1: 1.5 marks
Module 2: 3 marks

Additional Information
 Do not enter the room until instructed to do so. We can set up the
room more quickly when it is empty.
 Bring your student ID card, pens, pencils, and a calculator. Do not
bring any notes, scrap paper or your own periodic table. A data sheet
will be supplied. (The data sheet you will get is exactly like the one
given on page 14 of the Course Outline.)

Time Allowed: 50 minutes

Instructions:

1. Print your name and other information in the top right corner on the front of the computer card.

2. Fill in your ID number, Section Number and your Test Master in the designated fields.

3. Use a pencil to fill in the ovals on the computer card. Make sure any erasures are complete and clean. If
you need a pencil, raise your hand and ask for one. The exact number of pages is yet to be determined.
4. This test booklet has 16 questions and 8 pages (including this Cover Page and the Data Sheet). Check now to
ensure that no pages are missing. If pages are missing, raise your hand and ask for a new test booklet.
5. There is only one correct answer for each question. Circle A, B, C, D, or E on this booklet. When you have
finished, transfer your answers to the computer card by filling in the appropriate oval (A, B, C, D, or E)
in the column for that question on the card.
6. Attempt all questions. No marks are deducted for wrong answers. Do all rough work on this test booklet.
Scrap paper is not permitted.
7. When you have finished, or when time is up, turn in this test booklet, the data sheet, and your computer
card, and then leave immediately. Do not put computer cards inside the test booklet.

Note: The last page is a DATA SHEET. You may tear it off. Return it with your test booklet
and computer card.
