Male Reproductive system
• Testes
• Genital ducts
– Intratesticular
– Extratesticular
• Penis → dual funcons
• Associated glands → produce semen
– Seminal vesicles
– Prostate glands
– Bulbourethral glands of Cowperi
Male reproductive system
Testes
• Oval organ, 4 x 2 x 3 cm3
• Descend from abdominal wall to scrotum →
“peritoneum → tunica vaginalis”, parally
surrounds anterolateral testis
• Scrotum
• Male gametes formation
• Synthesis, storage, release of testosteron
• Semen excretion
General structure
• 3 layers
– Tunica vaginalis
– Tunica albuginea
• Mediastinum testis (corpus of Highmory), posterior
thickening, radiate to form septa → lobuli tess
– Tunica vasculosa
• Loose connective tissue + blood vessels
• Interstitial cells of Leydig
– Testosteron
– Eosinophyilic cytoplasm

Human, 10% formalin, H. & E., 3.4 x.

Tubulus seminiferus

Monkey, Photomicrograph HE staining

Tubulus seminiferus
• Highly convoluted hollow tubules
• Each lobule: 1-4 seminiferous tubules
• Ǿ 150-250 μm, 30-70 cm long
• 2 testes: 1000 tubules; 0,5 km
• Seminiferous epithelium (germinal epithelium)
– Stratified cuboid epithelium
– 2 kind of cells: Sertolli cells, germ cells
Sertolli cells
• Sustentacular cells
• Tall columnair cells
• Basally located, clear, oval nucleus
• Zonnula occludens/tight junction at lateral wall between
adjacent cells→ blood tess barrier → protects sperm
• Functions:
– Support developing germ cells
– Phagocytosis activity
– ABP production
– Hormone production:
• Antimullerian
• Inhibin
Tubulus seminiferus
Germ cell
• 4-8 layers of epithel
• Active undergo proliferation and
differentiation
• Spermatogenesis
– Spermatocytogenesis
– Meiosis
– Spermiogenesis
• 200 million sprematozoa/day
Spermatogenesis
• Spermatogonia (2n)
• Spermatosit primer (2n) Spermatocytogenesis
• Spermatosit sekunder
• Spermatid Meiosis
– Golgi phase
– Cap phase
– Acrosomal phase Spermiogenesis
– Maturation phase
• Spermatozoa

Genital ducts
• Intratesticular genital
ducts
– Tubuli rekti
– Rete testis
– Ductuli efferentes
• Extratesticular genital
ducts
– Epididymis
– Ductus (vas) defferens
– Ductus ejaculatorius

Epididymis
• Highlt convoluted tubule, thin-walled
• Gradually loose its convolution to the distal part
• 3 regions : head, body and tail
• Pseudostratified columnair epithelium with
stereocilia:
– Basal cell: stem cell regerating principal cells
– Principal cell: resorb luminal fluid
• A layer of circularly smooth muscle cells: peristaltic
contraction conducts spermatozoa to the ductus
defferens

Ductus (vas) defferens
• Thick-walled musculatur tube
• Irregular lumen
• Pseudostratified columnair epithelium with
stereocilia
• 3 muscle layer:
– Inner and outer longitudinal
– Middle circular
• Ampulla: dilated terminus continued to ejaculatory
