The cuadros vivos are a great representation of Galerana culture.

This culture
expression is performed every January during "El festival de la algarroba", which takes
place in the village of Galeras of the department of Sucre. The cuadros vivos are
created by the inhabitants of the municipality, through which they theatrically represent
a specific theme. The people who are part of the live painting, that is, the stage actors
are usually called Gods and Goddesses. These actors must remain static for a certain
time to give the illusion of human painting. This culture expression was proposed to the
Colombian Ministry of Culture to be named intangible cultural heritage of the Colombian
nation.

The "cuadros vivos" is a representation of the Galerana community. All people can be
part of this great cultural expression, and with their imagination they can make a
"cuadro vivo" with different themes. The themes can be varied as current problems of
society, legends, myths, past customs, fantasy, among others. In addition, people give
messages to society enlightened by this cultural expression.

The most important thing about a "cuadro vivo" is that it brings together family and
friends for the creation of this, managing to create a great connection between them;
and get all the people to let their imagination fly. Also, it is a great example of the work
that can be achieved by the Galeranos as a team. The "cuadros vivos" manage to
transmit messages to all the guests that come from different places to observe this
great show of art on an open stage.
