Introduction
An extensive research for choosing a company to write this literature led me to study
about few companies dealing in the fast food industry and international food industry. I
broadened my horizon by not limiting me to study only the big global names in the
industry but also the local ones. After having researched reasonably in detail on
Red Rooster, Hungry Jack’s, Danny boys, Burger Urge, Montezuma’s, Miss India,
Harajuku Goyza, I finalised Burger Urge. The main reason I finalised this burger
chain was it demonstrated some fundamental problems coming from the
management. The same was existent with Danny boys but the reason I chose the
burger chain over the standalone sandwich bar were the size of the business,
years of operation, interviewing the operators, profitability of the business, etc. Burger
Urge was founded in 2007 by brothers Sean and Colby Carthew with one outlet in
Ne w Fa rm, Brisbane. F ast forwa rd 10 ye a rs, t hey n ow have 24 st ore s in
ope rati on i n Queensland and New South Wales 3 more opening soon in these 2 states
combined, all these under the mentorship of industry expert Tom Potter; owner of
Eagle Boys. The Carthew Brothers wasted no time in appointing the veteran once he
sold is multimillion dollar pizza chain to Pizza Hut in Australia and New Zealand in
multiple deals. (Business News Australia, 2017) Interviewing Burger Urge store
manager; Chris Gainz, of the Kelvin Grove store gave me a lot of insight into the
operation of the chain and the brief discussion also gave me the insight to the pros and
cons of owning a Burger Urge Franchisee. This literature will discuss the aspects in
detail. (Kelvin Grove Urban Village, 20 Carraway St, Kelvin Grove QLD 4059)Identification
and discussion of Burger Urge’s structure, products and services Burger Urge has a pretty
straight forward hierarchy. The founders, Sean and Colby Carthews it right at the top
of the hierarchy, mentored by Tom Potter who also is on the premium burger
chain’s board. However, the chain is now managed by the Carthew brothers only post the
legal battle in federal court where Potter formally undertook not to disparage the brothers.
(Mail, 2017)Burger Urge sells premium burgers at affordable prices. They also create
happy customers with their service. The fast food chain maintains and uniformity
throughout its stores. The tagline “dangerously good burgers” and its controversial ad
campaigns gained huge popularity.
