Personal Management Philosophy

Part 1: Introduction

For this paper, I had completed a quiz on classroom management to find out which is the

best management plan for me based on many questions. My test results came out as category A

with a total of 23 points, category B with a total of 24 points, and category C with a total of 25

points. After finding out that category C had the highest score, the book refers that I should

consider Coloroso’s Inner Discipline, Positive Behavior Support, Bodine and Crawford’s

Conflict Resolution and Peer Mediation, and Gathercoal’s Judicious Discipline. I think these

results are accurate for my teaching style because students should have a consequence after

misbehaving. I plan to use Coloroso’s Inner Discipline in my classroom because students should

have to think about how their behaviors impact others and relate a consequence that is

appropriate for that behavior. I want my students to have respect for everyone and help them

learn their lesson by giving an appropriate consequence. In my future classroom I will create the

rules and consequences and have them placed on poster paper in my room. The first day of class

I will explain to my preschool class what the rules are and what could happen if they disobey

them.

Part 2: My Classroom Arrangement

When I become a Preschool teacher and have my own classroom, I will make sure that it

is safe, educational and engaging. I want my students to enjoy my classroom all while still
learning. My room will be set-up with learning stations that include dramatic center, block

center, music, books, math and science, art, and manipulatives. I will have an area set up for

circle time and have posters hung up by circle time that includes the alphabet, student jobs, the

weather, shapes, numbers and anything else that will help teach the students. These posters will

be switched out every so often, so the students do not get bored with learning the same thing

over and over. Instead of leaving the walls bare, I will put bulletin boards up with different

themes on them or important news for the families. I will also place posters or student’s artwork

on the walls. There will be no main teacher desk in my classroom because I should be up and

observing and interacting with the students. I want my students to come into my classroom and

feel welcomed and know we are there to teach them. My classroom will be arranged this way

because students do not want to sit and learn through lecturing all day long. I will also have my

stations set up, so they are visible to everyone. These stations will be made for my students to

learn and explore every day.

Part 3: My Classroom Rules

The behaviors that I expect to see in my future classroom are positive behaviors. I know

that I will not have a perfect class of students and there will be some misbehaviors. If students

misbehave in my classroom, there will be a consequence. When applying a consequence, I will

think of one that suits the appropriateness of the discipline. I think it is a good idea to discipline

students because then they learn their lesson and will soon realize that maybe they should not be

doing that in the first place. If I were to let the students off the hook, they would think to

themselves that they can keep doing the misbehavior and nothing will happen just a simple no.

The rules and guidelines I will provide in my preschool classroom is no throwing toys,

not to be playing in the water in the bathroom, use inside voices, no running inside and caring
hands. My consequences will include a verbal warning, move clip, lose some time during

outdoor play, and using logical consequences. For example, when a student spills milk on the

floor they are handed a rag to clean it up. The students in my classroom that have behavioral

difficulties, I will use the positive behavior support system. This theory helps to focus on

preventing the behavior problems rather than responding to them. I can incorporate the three-tier

approach into my classroom to help prevent the behaviors. By creating a system of positive

reinforcements this will help change the behavior of my students.

Part 4: My Classroom Procedures

A typical day in my classroom will consist of a schedule that some days it may be

consistent while other days it may be changed up throughout the day. When the students get to

school in the morning, I will greet each one of them and have them hang their belongings up and

sign in. Then for about an hour, I will let the students explore and learn the different centers in

the classroom. In other words, within the hour the students will have explored every center and

interacted with their classmates. During this time my assistant and I will walk around and

interact with the students. I will have the whole class get together and we will do circle time.

This is where I will teach the students about the calendar, the weather, and maybe play a game or

read a book. If the weather is nice enough out, I will take my kids out to enjoy some sunshine.

But if we cannot go outside, I will do a small group time and split the class to work on an activity

that goes with the theme of the week. Around 11:30 am I will have the students use the restroom

and wash hands to get ready for lunch. We will do family style meals where the students will

grab what they need for lunch and set it at their spot. During this time, I can ask one of the

classmates to help the disabled students with grabbing what they need for lunch. The food and

milk will be passed around so each child can have the experience. After lunch I will get them
around to take a nap and when they wake up, we will read a story and maybe do an activity then

let them play until it is time to depart.

I will assign helpers and line leaders before the students show up each day. I will choose

who gets to do what so I know who has not gotten to do something and each child will get a turn

with each job. There may be students in my classroom that have special needs or are English

language learners. Some ways that I can modify learning for these students is to have an assistant

to help with more one-on-one help. I can always think about my activities more and how I could

incorporate them into it without it being to challenging. Some activities, I may have to help them

cut or glue. In my preschool class with no teacher aide I will accommodate to help those with

disabilities or behavioral problems. As a teacher I could do activities at a slower pace and have

the same thing planned for a whole week, so the students are able to understand better. During a

whole group time I can explain to all my students about the many disabilities and behavioral

problems people can have. I will also explain to them that they are just as equal as everyone else

and we need to treat them the same. This will help when the students are playing in the centers

they are interacting with the disabled. During free time, I can interact with them and help them

learn and understand things. The more time that I put into teaching someone the more they will

learn. I will just need to stay on top of it. These types of students are no different from everyone

else. They all should be getting taught the same things. Th other students may just learn in a

slower pace and need more help. To help with severe behavioral disordered students I will make

sure to always be respectful like I am to everyone. If they break a rule, I will not raise my voice

at them but I will talk to them off to the side and maybe have them sit in a safe zone to calm

down.

Part 5: My Philosophy
A.) My Philosophical Beliefs for students

My philosophical belief for students is that they all should be treated with respect and

gratitude. They all should be taught the same whether some need more help on certain things. I

think students need to be controlled and disciplined because if the students were not controlled,

they would be all over the place not listening. If a student misbehaves, they should know in the

back of their minds that there will be a consequence to follow up with their behavior. Students

need to learn the responsibility of what their behaviors are doing and how it can or will impact

others around them. For example, if a student is playing in the sink in the bathroom and gets

water all over the floor the best consequence is to hand them a mop and have them mop up their

mess. If students do not get punished, they are not learning their responsibilities and their lesson

will not be learned.

B.) My Philosophical Beliefs for Teachers

My philosophical belief for teachers is that they all should show they respect and support

every student in the classroom. On the other hand, if students are misbehaving, I believe they

have the right to punish more than a simple time out. If a rule is broke, I will think of an age

appropriate consequence that will follow. I believe that teaches are there to teach the class and if

the students are not paying attention, they need to address it because it is hard for the other

students to learn when one child is misbehaving. Teachers should take time at the beginning of

the year to explain their rules and routines so the students know that if they misbehave there will

be a consequence. When students know they will be disciplined they will think twice about doing

something they know should not be done.

C.) My Philosophical Beliefs for Classroom Management

My philosophical belief for classroom management is all teachers need to focus on an

effective classroom management plan. There are many plans teaches can use in their classroom

to help students with behavioral problems, learning and discipline. I believe to have effective

classroom management plan teachers need to explore the many themes and help get their

students involved and want them to have a safe and enjoyable environment. I think using the

reward system in a classroom is good to some extent. I do not think teachers should reward for

every single good thing they did. I could think of a way and reward those who once have

misbehaved and learned their lesson. I think the point of a classroom management plan is to help

teach the students to discipline themselves. When students understand how they are disciplining

themselves they will realize that their behavior needs to change to better themselves.

D.) My Philosophical Beliefs for Instructional Planning

My philosophical belief for instructional planning is that I believe teachers should use this in

their classrooms. Instructional planning helps get teachers prepared for teaching their students

and learning. This will help me decide on what I am going to teach my students and how it will

be taught to them. This will also help me save time in my planning process when trying to figure

out lesson plans for the year.

I will teach classroom management by blending all the subjects together. This way I can

develop many activities based on the subjects. I might start out with a plain in the beginning of

the school year but if the behavior gets too bad, I might have to not follow my plan. I will use a

weekly lesson plan in my classroom. This will help me determine what we are learning each

week following a theme. When I become a teacher, I am hoping to have a teacher assistant to

help me out. Having a class full of preschoolers is hard so having an assistant will help. The

assistants can also help me think of activities to get the students involved. When I work in a
classroom I would like an administrator because if not I will have more work on my shoulders to

deal with.
