2.0TRAINING SCENARIO START EMERGENCY GENERATOR AND MAIN GENERATOR

Refer to STCW 1978 Amendment 2010 Table A-II/1

Function & Level : Operational level

Competence : Emergency generator and Main generator

AIM of Exercise : To supply electric power for lighting.for time being and to supply electric
main power gor general consumption, so that the vessel raedy for another
equiepment operation.

Objective : 1. Preparation before starting.

2. Checking after starting.
3. Disconnect emergency gen and main gen.
4. Main gen for general lifgthing.

Exercise condition : MV Crest Mecury 3 at port position in black out condition after doing repair of
macinaries.

Own ship data : 1. Ship Name : MV. Crest Mercury 3.

Exercise Duration : 90 minutes

Exercise Performance : 1. Preparation before starting Emergency Generator.

Criteria a. Need to be sure that fuel is suficient for starting the genset, open the
fuel supply valve.
b. Make sure the cooling system in cgood condition
( Fan cooling system )
c. Make sure the batteries power is in full charge , switch the handle
power to the On position.
d. Check the lub oil level.
e. Check water cooling level.

If the all items above are checked in good condition then start the engine.

2. After the emergency generator Running down below list have to be

monitored.
a. Check lub oil level, make sure the lub oil level parameter gauge state
in the working pressure.( 50 – 70 Psi )
b. Make sure the cooling system working properly by ( waiting the
temperature parameter gauge state to the working temperature).
c. Make sure the electrical parameter in the emergency panels, hez 60,
volt 415 v, Amper act.
d. Consider the the air starting is already running and the pressure of air
ready for being used.
3. After Emergency generator running safe and satisfactory, the next step
prepar start Main geherator.
a. Check lub oil level, top up if necsary.
b. Check water cooling level, Top up if necessary.
c. Check fuel line and fuel tank level, open the fuel supply valve.
d. Start the Main Generator.
4. After the Main generator running have to make sure
a. Check oil level, make sure the lub oil lvel in working pressure.
b. Check water cooling system, make sure the pump working normally.
c. Check fuel pressure.
d. Make sure electrical parameter in the main generator panels, haz 60,
voltage 415 V, act.
e. Select manual mode at main generator panels.
5. Change from lighting used emergency generator to main generator.
a. Close the breaker ( Be loaded ) by pus the button at the main
generator panels.( green Button ).
b. Once the main generator loeaded ( close breaker ) the emergency
generator automatically stop by it self.
c. Check all electrical parameter at the main genrator panels.
d. Now the lighting has been powered by main generator.

1. Engine Manual book.
2. Electronic sircuit diagram.
3. Check list Procedure.

Critical Performance : 1. Inform to Chief Engineer.

2. Check performance of running main generator.
3. Check final condition.
4. Check regularlly during the main generator running.
5. Alarm must be responded immediatly.
