Week One - Context

CONTEXT

How did you find coming up
with an idea that challenged
you enough for your FMP?
I actually found it quite difficult trying to find an idea for my FMP. In my
head I was thinking about making a radio show but in the end I
decided to do a documentary. I was sat down with my teachers trying
to find an idea so we were thinking about what I like or what’s really
important to me. I then thought of the idea about immigration because
when I was really young my parents sacrificed everything and decided
to move to England to give themselves and also me and my brother a
better quality of life. I think this is a really good idea for a production
because it’s very personal to me. Because it’s very personal to me I will
put my attention and focus on making this the best documentary I
could produce and tell the story of my family for other people to see.
Finally I also think immigration is a very controversial topic in today’s
society so I think my documentary could ideally get people talking
about it and break the ice a bit.

How has writing a proposal
helped you with finalising
your idea?
Writing a proposal has helped me a lot with finalising my idea. I had 3
main ideas for my production. A documentary on Wetherspoons, a
drive time radio show and finally a documentary on immigration. I sent
out a survey to my peers to ask for some help picking my final idea and
after getting many answers the winner was the documentary on
immigration. I knew I really wanted to do this production but writing a
proposal and sending out a survey really helped me to make that
decision.

How did the feedback help The feedback I received did really help me out and made me think
you adapt your idea – what about what I could do to make more people watch my documentary.
