1 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this document is to inform users about new features and changes in the FatFree 2015
release (v12.0).

The FatFree 2015 release (v.12.0) has significant changes and new functionalities. The main features
can be summarized as:

- General

o Analysises are now carried out at weld cap and weld root at the same time with
independent SN-curves

- Multi-Mode Analysis

o Users can now define the number of modes to be considered in multi-mode analysis

o Sensitivity analysis on modes has been included

o Introduced expanded results

A more detailed description of those and other new features is found in the FatFree (v.12.0) User Manual.

2 NEW FEATURES
Fatigue calculations in weld cap and weld root locations

The calculations now consider two fatigue locations simultaneously. The mid-wall stress amplitude is
automatically adjusted for the weld root and weld cap locations. Each fatigue location have its own SN-
curve and SCF. The lowest fatigue life is reported in the results.

Wave induced flow velocity

The wave induced flow velocity at the pipe level is now shown. Values are available in the “Wave
Template” sheet for 1, 10 and 100 year return waves.

Expanded multi-mode analysis module

User can define the number of modes to be considered in both in-line and cross-flow directions. The
multi-mode input sheet formats itself to the desired number of modes. A consequence is that the cells
where input is given changed, i.e. input format is not compatible with previous versions.

An option for sensitivity analysis on modes was also included. It provides a measure of the damage
when the modes are sequentially deactivated. It is also possible to manually deactivate individual modes.

In addition to mode shapes, the multi-location input can be given directly as stress aplitudes for each
location.

The “Multimode Output” sheet was included to display results per location. Fatigue life and extreme
loading results are available in numerical, table, and plot forms.

Expanded input options for parametric runs

The drop-down menus options is now read from the “SpanRuns” sheet. The structural damping and
surface roughness are added in the list of parameters available.

Airy wave theory applicability check

A conservative applicability check for the Airy wave theory is performed. Each seastate considered is
verified and results are presented in “plots” sheet organized by Hs.

Besides the new functionalities added, the following enhancements have been done in version
12.0:

- Re-branding according to DNV GL new template

- Code compiled as a dynamic link library (dll)

- Calculations with waves where those provide small flow velocity at the pipe level, e.g. due large
water depth, now provides a warning instead of a error. Calculations are performed without
waves.

- Removed error associated with RPV current curve fitting in omni-directional. Error only occurred
when a 3 parameter fitting was not possible for onmi-directional data in a directional analysis.

- “User Defined” response quantities is now available for span runs in single and multi mode
analyses.

3 BUG FIXES
In addition to the new features, the following known issues are fixed:

- Added cross-flow VIV correction factor in Force Model drag coefficient.

- Surface roughness added as input instead of fixed value.

- Outer diameter is correctly shown in span runs.

- Removed current velocity projection error that generated negative flow velocities.

- Additional statistical data (e.g. mean value) is displayed in current and wave templates when
span analysis is performed.

- Omni-directional data now includes sector around 0º, parallel to the pipe.

- Corrected various misspellings in help comments.

- Concrete stiffness is calculated from concrete construction strength following DNV-RP-F105

suggestion.
