 The Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Smartphone for
Students
Smartphone is a mobile phone that performs many functions of a computer, typically
having a touchscreen interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running
downloaded apps. Smartphones are really essential for everyone’s life. Every technology has
its own advantages and disadvantages depends on how people use it. For students, a
smartphone is one of the useful devices in their life. Nowadays almost all student has a
smartphone.
There are many advantages of using smartphone for students. First, smarthphone is very
useful in emergency situations. If students have a smartphone, it is easy to contact anyone when
they need. When they have a problem in school or in the street after school, they can contact
their parents immediately. Likewise, students with a phone can contact police at any harmful
situation, or contact fire brigade if they find fire somewhere, or even they can call any
department when they need to. Second, smartphone is a great equipment in order to improve
student’s knowledge. Through the smartphone students can open many sites that contain more
information such as Google, YouTube, and Wikipedia, so they can get more material from it.
Third, another advantage of smartphone is communicating to their friends, if students get
absent or miss some lecturer, they can contact their friends to get information about homework.
Fourth, get to know what happens around the world. Students spend their more time on mobile
phones rather than laptops for searching news and other useful material and get to know what
happens around the world. Smartphone is also a smart way to search nearly anything easily and
quickly.
Besides, there are many disadvantages of using smartphone for students. First, students
are playing games most of the time. Nowadays lots of students got distracted by smartphones
because they can download so many games on it. So, they spend their time to play games rather
than study. Second, Sleepless nights and fatigue. When students are playing games on
smartphones, they don’t feel the time passing because they concentrate fully on the game. Most
of the students choose night time for playing games so that no one will disturb them. And they
play until early morning unless parents come and shout at them to sleep. Some students choose
the sleeping time for chatting with friends. Chatting also makes them go to bed very late. So,
students must sleep as soon as they finish their homework and dinner so that they would start
the next day fresh and confident. Third, using smartphones can disturb other students. When
there is an important call and your smartphone rings during that time, it will disturb the whole
class. Most of the students put their smartphones in silent mode, but some students don’t care
about it. So, the ringing tone completely disturbs others. Another one, some students want to
have a smartphone, but their parents don’t allow them to have one. Such students get frustrated
when they see another student having a smartphone. Fourth, using smartphone can reduced
time with family. Before these phones and technology, students spent plenty of time with their
family. Now students spend their free time with the smartphone, either playing games or
chatting with friends via smartphones. Spending time with the family is one of the most
important things for everyone and we can learn more good stuff when we freely talk with our
family. Fifth, using smartphone can cause road accidents. Talking over the phone, typing a text,
selecting the music, and finding places on the phone map while driving not only harm yourself
but also harm other road users. Students use their smartphone the most while driving. Most of
the countries banned using smartphones while driving, but there are students who hide and use
the smartphone while driving. Of course, they can escape from police, but can’t escape from
the road accidents. Sixth, using smartphone can cause health issues. It is very dangerous for
the student because of radiation level from mobile is very harmful to kids as compared to an
adult. So, it is very important to always take care of a child or protect them from using a lot. In
mobile tower emit high-frequency radio waves, or microwaves called non-ionizing radiation.
This means they do not directly damage the DNA inside cells but a lot of diseases may come
if you are using a smartphone.
So, there are four advantages of using smartphone such as, smarthphone is very useful
in emergency situations, great equipment in order to improve student’s knowledge, smartphone
is communicating to their friends, and get to know what happens around the world. In the other
side there are six disadvantages of using smartphone such as playing games most of the time,
sleepless nights and fatigue, disturb other students, reduced time with family, using smartphone
can cause road accidents, and using smartphone can cause health issues.
Now we have learn about the advantages and disadvantages of using smartphone.
Smartphone is useful for the humanity and provided high level of ease if you used properly and
sensibly. Parents should take care of their kids that if they are giving them smartphone then it
should be used benefically rather than spoiling them.
