1. What is referred to as the Cold War?

Cold War occurred after the World War II ended. This is a period where the two super-states which
are United States and Soviet Union with their respective allies are in hostile. This Cold War term
were introduced for the first time by George Orwell, an English writer in an article published in 1945.
This war carry on political, propaganda fronts, economic and limited used of weapons. The weapons
here was atomic weapons which is nuclear bomb that gives a mass destruction. Therefore it also
called as atomic age.

2. What were proxy wars?


Proxy war is armed war between two parties (e.g. countries) which occurred on behalf of major
powers. This major powers which are United State and Soviet Union plays a big role in directing the
war without really take a direct involvement in the war itself. The purpose of this is to wider their
influence and strengthen their position in the eyes of the world. Besides that, it also to minimize the
damage for them as the third parties are the one who are in hostile and get the damage.

3. What was the "arms race" about?


Basically, arms race is a condition where the rival states are developed their military power both in
quantity and quality, even though they are not in a war mode. As an example, it happened between
United States and Soviet Union. It is started with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki destruction by the
nuclear bomb by American.

4. What are the main events that took place during this period?
The main event at this period is Berlin Blockade. It is a condition where the France, Great Britain,
and the United States are blocked from access to the West Berlin. They basically cut off everything
like water communications, road, etc. from the West Berlin. By the airlift, United States then
provided the life support for the citizen in Berlin to keep them survive for around 11 months. The
Soviet Union also build up the Berlin Wall that separate the West and East Berlin which then
become the symbol of cold war.

5. What is the legacy of the Cold War since 1991?


 The United States become the only superpower in the world now.
 The nuclear weapons
 The emergency broadcast system that alert the citizens about the country situation
 The decreased of communist countries
