HTML FUNDAMENTALS

INTRODUCTION:

Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is a language which runs on computer that has
a web browser installed in it. It has a collection computer styles (indicated by tags)
that define the various components of World Wide Web document. An HTML
document can be opened in any operation system using any hardware such as PC,
mackintosh or UNIX operate machine. HTML is the basic language to design web
pages.

WHAT IS HTML ? ? ?

H-T-M-L: are the initials that stand for Hyper Text Markup Language. In other words,
HTML is not a programming language. HTML is used to design and classify different
types of web page according to their function like, which part is the title of the
document, which is the subheading, which part is the name of the author and so on.

DIFFERENT ELEMENTS OF HTML:

HTML elements tells us Web browser that the file contains HTML-coded information.
The extension – html indicates that this is an HTML document. HTML document
must contain this extension for it to be read by a Web browser.

HEAD element <head>

The head element identifies the first part of the HTML – coded document that contain
the title.

TITLE element <head>

The title element contains the document’s title and identifies its contents in a global
context.

2
BODY element <head>

The second and the largest part of your HTML document is the body, which contains
the contents of the document.

Section Headings Element;

HTML has six levels of section headings numbered 1 through 6, the first heading
should be tagged as <h1>

Font size and colour Element <font>

The font tag can be used to specify font characteristics for your document including
color, size.

Ordered list <01>

Ordered lists can be preceded by roman numerals, alphanumeric characters. The tag
for an ordered list is: <01>

An anchor tag <A>

The anchor tag is used to mark the text or images as a link. An HREF=” “located
within the opening anchor tag like <a href=”“

Images Element <img>

HTML allows placing of static and animated images in a Web page. It accepts pictures
file formats .gif and .jpg. An image can be inserted into a web page using the tag
<img> </img>. This tag takes the name of the image file (file name. if).

FEATURES OF THE WEBSITE

With the results of Indian contingent in the latest Olympics held in London, there is a
question starting to regain its old heights: “What can inspire future generation to
take sports as a career in India?“

The London Olympic 2012′s slogan ‘Inspire a generation’ rang a bell. So do we lack
or the potential or the inspiration? Most of the players playing in India are either
hailing from a sporting background or from a prosperous family. So clearly there is a
lot more that India can offer, all we need is inspiration.

Let’s see the factors that keep young generation intimidated rather than inspired:

1. Easily Accessible : The website is easily accessible as it can be accessed form

anywhere whether it is the mobile phone or a desktop.

2. Education system: Since school time, the education system only emphasizes on
studies and sports are just for fun.

3. Family orientation: Everyone wants their children to be either Doctors or

Engineers, but a sportsperson, no way!

4. Government support: Well, they give lot of jobs based on sports quota to
accomplished athletes, but sadly there is no institution that invites openly anyone
who has the talent, from root level.

The third problem is the main, if it is solved the above two will be automatically
solved.

So finally it just narrows down to the government that should step forward and take
measures, but the question is, what measures?

Well here is an easy and practical idea, government should establish a new kind of
institutions which emphasize on developing world class athletes. Like IITs and IIMs,
there should be an IIS (Indian Institute of Sports), where the best talent in all sports
from the entire country could get enrolled and they will carry the Indian hopes of
sporting world. The idea of creating an IIS could lead India to be one of the best

8
countries in the sporting world because there is a lot of talent in this country which I
have witnessed myself. The only thing that stops them is that they don’t have a path to
follow. In the beginning there obviously will not be much positive response, but I am
very well-assured that if implemented this idea can totally renovate the face of Indian
sports.

People tell their children to aim and get into IITs so the boy starts preparing for it,
takes several coaching lessons, and tries to bring out his best. He gets into IIT, then
what? Now his parents want him to try harder and get into IIM, the boys struggles
again and gives his best to get into IIM. Before the boy can even make a bold decision
for his life his ship is already in the sea where there is no turning back. The reason
behind the world acknowledging the brains of India today makes it very clear how
much potential we have, the rising competition among the students make them one of
the best brains not only in the country but also in the world.

I am not asking to change the education pattern of India and make it like the American
education system which has a complete organisation called NCAA (National
Collegiate Athletic Association) dedicated to bring new talents in sports and support
them to get better while their education is underway. This will take way bigger steps
and investment and truth be told, India isn’t ready for it yet. But India definitely
requires an institution where student athlete is a known term, where sports are the
main priority and the infrastructure is good enough to train the students for world
class competition. Just imagining an institution like this being built gives me
goosebumps.

For other countries Indians are usually known as brainy people. This is because of our
orientation. Imagine a boy who has enrolled in IIT. He figures that if IIT wouldn’t
have been everything in the country then he could have used his potential to do
something that he loves the most, something that he wanted to do all his life when he
was a child. If the orientation changes from getting into IIT to getting into IIS, the
results would be beyond imagination. Though it feels like a dream but it could be
reality because this is by far the most practical idea I have ever known to improve
situation of Indian sporting world. This could be very easily implemented by

9
government, if not, the idea is so simple that even private organizations can
implement it.

If we really care for our future generation we should write a request to the
government for establishment of such institutions. Combined efforts of us all can only
make it strong issue. If we want our children to live their dream, this step is required
to be taken. There a lot of movements already started to promote sports all over the
country these movements can be easily utilized to raise this agenda.

I am an engineering student myself but I am trying with my sweat and blood to

become a Lawn Tennis professional. Well, it is very hard to defy the rules, doing
something off the hook just takes everything out of you, I know I am not the first one
to try anything like this, but this just proves how many are just waiting for an
institution like IIS to open. We do have sports in the schools but when the question
comes about career nobody even faces towards the fields. Why is that? Because there
is no reputable career in sports. Well this could all change when in the days to come a
young student stands up in a career orientation conference and say, “Sir, I want to be
a professional athlete, I want to get into IIS”.

“2-BASEBALL”

INTRODUCTION:

Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each. The
goal of baseball is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a
series of four markers called bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or
diamond. Players on one team (the batting team) take turns hitting while the other
team (the fielding team) tries to stop them from scoring runs by getting hitters out in
any of several ways. A player on the batting team can stop at any of the bases and
hope to score on a teammate's hit. The teams switch between batting and fielding
whenever the fielding team gets three outs. One turn at bat for each team constitutes
an inning; nine innings make up a professional game. The team with the most runs at
the end of the game wins.

Baseball on the professional, amateur, and youth levels is popular in North America
(particularly in the United States), Central America, parts of South America and the
Caribbean, and parts of East Asia and Southeast Asia. The game is thought to have
originated in England some time before 1755, as noted by William Bray, a lawyer
from the period whose diary historians have recently authenticated. The consensus of
historians is that it evolved from earlier bat-and-ball games, such as cricket and
rounders. Baseball was then brought to North America by British and Irish
immigrants. This is contrary to the popular belief that the game was invented in North
America during the eighteenth century. However, by the late nineteenth century,
baseball was widely recognized as the national sport of the United States. The game is
sometimes referred to as hardball in contrast to the very similar game of softball.

In North America, professional Major League Baseball teams are divided into the
National League (NL) and American League (AL). Each league has three divisions:
East, West, and Central. Every year, the champion of Major League Baseball is
determined by playoffs culminating in the World Series. Four teams make the playoffs
from each league: the three regular season division winners, plus one wild card team.
The wild card is the team with the best record among the non–division winners in the

16
league. In the National League, the pitcher is required to bat, per the traditional rules.
In the American League, there is a tenth player, a designated hitter, who bats for the
pitcher. Each major league team has a "farm system" of minor league teams at various
levels. These teams allow younger players to develop as they gain on-field experience
against opponents with similar levels of skill.

“3-BASKETBALL”

INTRODUCTION:

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five active players each try to score
points against one another by propelling a ball through a 10 feet (3 m) high hoop (the
goal) under organized rules. Basketball is one of the most popular and widely viewed
sports in the world.

Points are scored by shooting the ball through the basket above; the team with more
points at the end of the game wins. The ball can be advanced on the court by bouncing
it (dribbling) or passing it between teammates. Disruptive physical contact (foul) is
not permitted and there are restrictions on how the ball can be handled (violations).

Through time, basketball has developed to involve common techniques of shooting,

passing and dribbling, as well as players' positions, and offensive and defensive
structures. Typically, the tallest members of a team will play center or one of two
forward positions, while shorter players or those who possess the best ball handling
skills and speed, play the guard positions. While competitive basketball is carefully
regulated, numerous variations of basketball have developed for casual play. In some
countries, basketball is also a popular spectator sport.

While competitive basketball is primarily an indoor sport, played on a basketball

court, less regulated variations have become exceedingly popular as an outdoor sport
among both inner city and rural groups.

“4-CRICKET”

INTRODUCTION:

Cricket is a bat-and-ball team sport that originated in England, possibly as early as

1300, and is now played in more than 100 countries.[citation needed] There are
several forms of cricket, at its highest level is Test cricket, in which the current world
leading team is Australia, followed by One Day International cricket, whose last
World Cup was also won by Australia; the tournament was televised in over 200
countries to a viewing audience estimated at more than two billion viewers.

A cricket match is contested by two teams, usually of eleven players each and is
played on a grass field in the centre of which is a flat strip of ground 22 yards (20 m)
long called a pitch. A wicket, usually made of wood, is placed at each end of the pitch
and used as a target.

The bowler, a player from the fielding team, bowls a hard leather, fist-sized, 5.5
ounces (160 g) cricket ball from the vicinity of one wicket towards the other, which is
guarded by the batsman, a player from the opposing team. The ball usually bounces
once before reaching the batsman. In defence of his wicket, the batsman plays the ball
with a wooden cricket bat. Meanwhile, the other members of the bowler's team stand
in various positions around the field as fielders, players who retrieve the ball in an
effort to stop the batsman scoring runs, and if possible to get him or her out. The
batsman — if he or she does not get out — may run between the wickets, exchanging
ends with a second batsman (the "non-striker"), who has been stationed at the other
end of the pitch. Each completed exchange of ends scores one run. Runs are also
scored if the batsman hits the ball to the boundary of the playing area. The number of
runs scored and the number of players out are the main factors that determine the
eventual match result.

There are several variations as to how long a game of cricket can last. In professional
cricket this can be anything from a match limited to 20 overs per side to a game
played over 5 days. Depending on the length of the game being played, there are
different rules that govern how a game is won, lost, drawn or tied.

25
Cricket is essentially an outdoor sport, certainly at major level, and some games are
played under floodlights. For example, it is played during the summer in the United
Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, while in the West Indies, India,
Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh it is played mostly during the winter after the
monsoon season.

Governance rests primarily with the International Cricket Council (ICC), based in
Dubai, which organises the sport worldwide via the domestic controlling bodies of the
member countries. The ICC administers both men's and women's cricket, both
versions being played at international level. Although men cannot play women's
cricket, the rules do not disqualify women from playing in a men's team.

The rules are in the form of a code known as The Laws of Cricket and these are
maintained by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), based in London, in consultation
with the ICC and the domestic boards of control.

“5-TABLE TENNIS”

INTRODUCTION:

Table tennis, also known as ping pong, is a sport in which two or four players hit a
lightweight, hollow ball back and forth with rackets (also known as 'bats' or 'paddles').
The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Players must allow a ball
played toward them only one bounce on their side of the table and must return it so
that it bounces on the opposite side. Points are scored when a player fails to return the
ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. A skilled player can
impart several varieties of spin to the ball, altering its trajectory and limiting an
opponent's options to great advantage.

The game is controlled by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), founded
in 1926. Since 1988, table tennis has been an Olympic sport which includes four
events. From 1988 until 2004, the events were men's singles, women's singles, men's
doubles and women's doubles. Since 2008 the doubles have been replaced by the team
events (Beijing was the first time where table tennis had an Olympic team event).

<p>Table tennis, also known as ping pong, is a sport in which two or four players hit
a lightweight, hollow ball back and forth with rackets (also known as 'bats' or
'paddles'). The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Players must allow a
ball played toward them only one bounce on their side of the table and must return it
so that it bounces on the opposite side. Points are scored when a player fails to return
the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. A skilled player can
impart several varieties of spin to the ball, altering its trajectory and limiting an
opponent's options to great advantage.</p>

<p>The game is controlled by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF),

founded in 1926. Since 1988, table tennis has been an Olympic sport which includes
four events. From 1988 until 2004, the events were men's singles, women's singles,
men's doubles and women's doubles. Since 2008 the doubles have been replaced by

“6-TENNIS”

INTRODUCTION:

Tennis is a sport played between two players (singles) or between two teams of two
players each (doubles). Each player uses a strung racquet to strike a hollow rubber
ball covered with felt (most of the time Optic Yellow, but can be any color or even
two-tone) over a net into the opponent's court.

The modern game of tennis originated in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century
as "lawn tennis" and had heavy connections to the ancient game of real tennis. After
its creation, tennis spread throughout the upper-class English-speaking population
before spreading around the world. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all
levels of society at all ages. The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket,
including people in wheelchairs. In the United States, there is a collegiate circuit
organized by the National Collegiate Athletics Association.

Except for the adoption of the tiebreaker in the 1970s, the rules of tennis have
changed very little since the 1890s. A recent addition to professional tennis has been
the adoption of "instant replay" technology coupled with a point challenge system,
which allows a player to challenge the official call of a point.

Along with its millions of players, millions of people worldwide follow tennis as a
spectator sport, especially the four Grand Slam tournaments (sometimes referred to as
the "majors"): the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS

I would like to conclude that this static website is created in order to see on how a
website can be created . This website is made to help people to know about sports on
our site. This website has given the group members complete knowledge on how the
static web pages can be created using HTML.

For well-balanced and sustainable social development, men and women must have
equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities: gender equality. Sport can make an
important contribution to improving the position of women. Basically, there are two
ways of stimulating gender equality. Gender mainstreaming aims to achieve equality
in all activities of an organisation: policy, structure and culture. Activities specifically
aimed at improving the position and participation of women are necessary as well:
empowerment. A combination of the two strategies is the most effective.
Projects aimed at sports participation by women must be set up with care. There are
several obstacles: women may feel unsafe, they may have other obligations and
limited time, and may be subject to norms in relation to gender and sexuality. It is
extremely important to take these aspects into consideration in the design of
programmes and projects.
This theme too shows the usefulness of cooperation between sport organisations and
development organisations. The gender issue is pre-eminently a theme for
development cooperation. Sport organisations do not need to reinvent this particular
wheel, but can build on procedures and methods that have been tried and tested in
practice. Similarly, development organisations do not need to break their heads over
the question of how to train female sport leaders or how sports activities can be set up
so as to be attractive to women. Sports associations already have this particular
expertise. It is recommended that the experiences of predecessors are used as well as
the knowledge and expertise of specialists in setting up and implementing sport and
development projects.

38
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The website can be developed into a dynamic website for sports for people. As this
site deals only with sports and packages with sports alone this website will provide
people with the best experience of sports as we deal only with sports and there are less
chances of the site getting hanged.
 Teach sports trainers: a one-year programme comprising ten modules and
covering both theory and practice, including coaching, neighbourhood sports,
organizing events and management.
 Neighbourhood sports: in four districts (townships) and serving about five
hundred children a week.
 Sports at school: courses, competitions and tournaments that sports trainers
organize at the schools.
 Teachers' training courses: training students at Marymount Teachers College
(for primary schools) and Mutare Teachers College (for secondary schools)
who are taking the elective Physical Education & Sport (physical education),
with an emphasis on teaching physical education.
 Kicking AIDS Out activities: sports and games to raise awareness and
increase knowledge about HIV/AIDS; now part of the YES (Youth Education
through Sport) programme of the Sport and Recreation Commission offered
throughout Manicaland Province.
 Events: e.g. the annual Multi Sport Festival, the Women in Sport Festival and
the Disabled Festival.
 Forming sports clubs, such as the handball club, the cyclists' club and the
Mutare Haarlem Athletics Club. Several athletes have participated in the
Haarlem half marathon (TROS run / ZilverenKruis Achmea run) in recent
years.
 Workshops: multi-day workshops for sports trainers focusing on a specific
sport or theme within sports management; in addition, a multi-day team-
building activity takes place outside Mutare once every six months.
