FIRE PROTECTION
26-1. FIRE PROTECTION
The fire protection system for the helicopter is made
up of a hand fire extinguisher installed in the flight
compartment. An optional heat sensing system
installed in the engine compartment is available.
26-2. HAND FIRE EXTINGUISHER
The hand fire extinguisher is installed in the flight
compartment. It is made up of a fire extinguisher bottle
(1, Figure 26-1) and a mounting bracket (2). The fire
extinguisher bottle is made up of a rechargeable body,
a safety catch, a discharge nozzle, a red discharge
indicator disc, and a pressure indicator. The mounting
bracket is installed on the center post and has a quick
release latch.
26-3. Hand Fire Extinguisher — Inspection
1. Examine the hand fire extinguisher for signs of
damage, corrosion, and pitting.
CAUTION
IF THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER HAS BEEN
FIRED, DO NOT USE IT. RECHARGE THE

RETURN IT TO SERVICE.
2. Examine the pressure indicator and make sure
that the indicator needle is in the green area. For
instructions on how to service the fire extinguisher,
refer to Chapter 12.
3. Examine the quick release latch. Make sure that
the latch opens easily and locks correctly.
4. Examine the mounting bracket. Make sure that
the bracket is installed correctly on the center post.
26-4. HEAT SENSING SYSTEM
NOTE
The heat sensing system is only available
as an optional kit. It is not standard
equipment on the helicopter.
The heat sensing system for the helicopter is made up
of a Fenwall firewire. It is installed in the engine
compartment. The firewire detects an overheat
condition in the engine compartment and supplies a
signal to the caution and warning panel. For the
extended description and operation of the heat
sensing system, refer to Chapter 96.
