Ancient Civilizations Map Assignment

The civilizations that we are going to start with are located in places that still exist today. But,
obviously, the names of the places have changed since thousands of years ago. This assignment
is just a quick exercise to familiarize yourself with the places we are talking about so that you
will be able to picture the locations. This is especially important for understanding cultural
diffusion.
Instructions:
1. Conduct an internet search for a blank world map that is sufficiently large enough to
allow you to plot locations. (Side note- not all computers allow users to enter locations on
a map; if this is a problem you run into, please print out your map, plot the locations by
hand and submit the image of the completed map when finished by either scanning it into
your computer or taking a picture of the assignment and uploading it.)
2. Plot the following locations on the world map:
a. Mesopotamia (please note the regions of Akkad, Sumer, Assyria)
b. Tigris River
c. Euphrates River
d. Zagros Mountains
e. Nile River
f. Indus River
g. Yellow (Huang He) River
h. Yangtze River
i. Aegean Sea
j. Mediterranean Sea
k. Persian Gulf
l. Red Sea
m. Peru
n. Mesoamerica
o. Andes Mountains
p. Anatolian Peninsula
q. Iranian Plateau
r. Nigeria
s. Greece
t. Crete
u. Levant
3. Submit your map when finished. (It is also recommended that you print out a copy of
your map to keep next to your computer so that you can reference it as you read about
these different locations. This will help you better understand where people were coming
from and how they were connected.)
