PRB utilization calculation in Huawei

Counters: N.PRB.DL.Used.Avg and N.PRB.UL.Used.Avg

UL PRB resources:

Average number of used uplink PRBs: The number of used uplink PRBs in a cell is sampled per slot. At the end of a
measurement period, the average of these sampling results is used as the value of the counter. The PUSCH, PRACH, and
PUCCH of the uplink channel occupy the uplink PRB resources. The total number of PRBs used by the PUSCH, PRACH, and
PUCCH is the number of used uplink PRBs.

PRACH: gNb reserves certain resources for the PRACH. The number of reserved resources for PRACH is counted under
uplink PRPs. Even there is no user, PRACH is always available and reserved.

Occupies 6 RB, since the counter calculation is done per slot - 4 UL slots in a frame for DL:UL=4:1/DDDSU, µPxSCH=1,
means 20 slots per Radio Frame.

average number of RBs occupied by PRACH  6 RB per slot /4 =1.5 RBs.

PUCCH: A certain PUCCH resource is reserved for ACK/SRI/CQI of the UE. Always reserved even there is no user. PUCCH is
mainly utilized to convey UCI including:

 HARQ/ACK feedback in response to DL data transmission.

 SR requests
 CSI report which is used for link adaptation and DL data scheduling. CSI report may include CQI/PMI/RI/Layer
indicator and beam related information.

PUCCH structure with short duration spans 1 or 2 symbols in a slot. It carries small payload size referred to PUCCH format 0
while the one carrying large payload size is called PUCCH format 2.

Long duration PUCCH can span 4 to 14 symbols within a slot. PUCCH format 1 carries small payload while the one carrying
large payload size PUCCH format 3 and 4. Long duration PUCCH formats are introduced in NR to provide coverage
enhancement.

In most common scenarios of NR, long format is going to be used.

PUCCH configuration queried by running the command: NRDUCELLPUCCH:NrDuCellId=1, StructureType=Long Structure,
Format3RbNum=4, Format1RbNum=4 RBs.

As you can see from above command, Format 3 and Format 1 use 4 RBs so in total we have 8 RBs for PUCCH.

DL PRB resources: Average number of used downlink PRBs: The number of PRBs used by all downlink channels in a slot is
sampled per slot. At the end of a measurement period, the average of these sampling results is used as the value of the
counter. The SSB and PDSCH channels are measured. When no user scheduling is performed, the SSB message is always
sent.

SSB requires 20 RBs and downlink resources are allocated based on 16RBs and one RBG.

Requirement: 100 MHZ BW we have 273 RBs and SSB RB 10 must be in the center, that is 273/2=136th RB as shown as
below. Therefore SSB occupies 48 RBs , RBs from 126 to 145.
16 DL resources
allocation is based on
16RBs and 1 RBG

SSB is sent 4 times per 2

frames

{3RBG*16 * 4} / {16 *2} = 6 RB/slot

16 slots per frame in DL

16 DL+4 UL slots= 20 slots per

frame.
19A(Small scale commercial use) - each slot=14 symbols, that is the start symbol of SSB is 2,8,16,22,30,36,44,50,58,64-,

Questions:

1- I am looking for the 3GPP parameter ssb-PositionsInBurst (sent to UE in SIB1) in Huawei but only found in
parameter list is NRCellMobilityConfig.SsbNumToAverage.
This parameter determines the number of SSB (broadcast beams) in 5ms SS Block.
.

2- NRDUCellTrpBeam.ScenarioBeamAlgoSw switch the control of SSB beam densification function in Huawei. What I
understood from Hedex, without enabling this switch,
For sub 6ghz band (low band FR1) 8 SSB beams in a SS Block can’t be used. (For sub 6Ghz MAX SSB to be used :
8 while for millimeter wave it is 64).

Hedex Definition:

SCENARIO_BEAM_DENSIFY_ALGO_SW(Scenario-Based Beam Densification Switch): When this option is

selected, scenario-based beams are densified. In all scenarios, the maximum number of SSB beams is
used, and the coverage performance of the target area is improved. When this option is deselected,
scenario-based beams are restored. It is recommended that this switch be turned on when the scenario is
frequently modified and when weak beam coverage areas exist in the target coverage scenario.
