Reflection Paper

Over the course of the semester, I have learned quite a bit about computers in EDT 180. Before

this class, I only knew how to work Microsoft PowerPoint, Photoshop and Microsoft Word really

well and now I know how to do more. I learned the most about Coding, Publisher, and Weebly. I

would not say that I excel in all of the newer programs that I was introduced to this semester, but

I definitely had to start somewhere and now I know a little bit more than I did before.

To start, the most exciting thing I learned to do was code. I personally never thought that I would

be able to code. It was actually not that intimidating learning to code, and I would like to

continue to code in the near future. I would also like to implement coding into my classroom

when I teach, because I think that it can be extremely helpful for my students. Creating the dance

party using coding was a super cool extra credit opportunity that we did, and I learned how to

combine codes through that opportunity.

I also learned what Publisher was. I have never had to use Publisher before and I will most

certainly be using it again. Publisher is one of my new favorites. It is fascinating the number of

templates there are on Publisher. It also is great for professionalism and allows you to be as

creative as you want. I learned how to create both a brochure and newsletter using this software,

and both turned out amazing. I never had anywhere to put forth my creativity and now I have

found one. It was also interesting to see that you could create templates for business cards or

even a menu for a restaurant. I want to have my future students create a template of their choice

on Publisher and see what they come up with. It is a very nifty program for them to learn about. I

will for sure use Publisher again and hopefully soon!

Creating a Weebly portfolio was helpful in many ways. To begin, I never knew there was a free

website where you could create a free website for yourself. It allows you to do a lot for being

free. I never knew where I could upload projects to store and share with the people I want to see

them. Weebly allowed me to share my projects with my family in a few clicks of a button and

that is so neat! My mom used to have me print out all of my big projects, and now I can upload

them to Weebly and give her the link! I also enjoy how I can upload my own personal photos. I

have thought about starting up a photography business and Weebly could help me in doing that! I

can post all of my photos to my account and share them with my clients. It is almost like

Instagram, but way more professional and it utilizes many more tools.

I for sure have become fonder of technology and am willing to give it a chance! After all,

computers are not stupid, it is people who are. We train the computers to do what they do, and

their faults are only that of humans. I have learned so much and it has been a great and fun

experience. I am looking forward to knowing little tricks with technology to get me through daily

tasks and projects quicker.
