2. In this online activity, my online students will use a simulation on explorelearning.com to
have an individual experience based upon their unique choices. Each child’s end result will be different, and I will grade them online by having them take a screen shot of their “energy path” and uploading it . Online This course is asynchronous and all of the materials needed will be provided to Activity the student beforehand. Before beginning the activity, the students will watch a video that the teacher uploaded providing them with information about the Water Cycle. The students will then need to complete a simulation on explorelearning.com. After watching the teachers video, students should go to explorelearning.com to access the simulation. They should go to the top right hand corner and click login/enroll and type in the class code that the teacher has provided. They will then be prompted to create a username and password so that they can use explorelearning.com in the future. The teacher will provide each student with a username and password. Once they are logged in students will go to their “classroom” and select the simulation on Energy Conversations. Under the “Information Mode” button students can click on various things within the picture and a text box will pop up with information regarding how energy is converted and gets from one place to another. Under the “Path Mode” tab students will click on various items within the simulation to create an energy path. For example, the student would first click on the Sun, then the corn crop, the factory and then the lamp inside the house. Students can do this as many times as they want until they find a path that they like. Once they find a path they are happy with they will take a screen shot and upload it to the class webpage. Before they click the “upload” button they should write a few sentences about their energy path in the comment box. An example would be, “The suns rays provides the corn with energy so that it can grow. Once the corn has grown it then goes to the factory where is is fermented and converted into energy that is used to power the lamp inside the house.” Once they are done with the activity they should upload and then click through and look at the paths and sentences that their classmates came up with.
