Lily Critchfield: Personal Statement

Today, people see the vigorous use of antidepressants as the “norm” amongst young
children as young as 5 years old, and up to the elderly. As an adult viewing this chaotic
cycle of medication use amongst young children and the results of it, it has inspired me
to be a catalyst for the youth of this generation and the generations to come. I have
gotten to know people who pursue the road of anti-depressants and of which identify
with the disorders spoken over them, which has influenced me to encourage them and
shed light on my story. I believe the use of medications in Psychiatric hospitals is just a
“band-aid to the root cause of behaviors and a person’s mental state. The “band-aid”,
(medication), must be changed continuously because the perfect combination that
doctors try to achieve never stays established. I believe the mind needs to be healed
which involves a complex process. I know one day I will open up my own Psychiatric
hospital for young children and teens in which will go through a process of working out
past traumas and exposing the lies people believe in order to reveal the truth within
experiences that have affected the way a parson lives or views the world and people.
Currently, I am a student at State College of Florida: Manatee-Sarasota, pursuing my
bachelor’s in arts in order to transfer to the University of South Florida, Sarasota-
Manatee, to acquire my PhD in Psychiatry. I look forward to the journey ahead of
learning about the mind along with implementing Biblical truths to the worlds view of the
mind. I am also pursuing Medical Billing and Coding on top of my current schooling in
order to get familiar with the operations within an office setting for future uses. I am also
training for a staffing position within a recovery home which has given me a lot of
experience with people that are currently going through a process, which I have gone
through myself, of reconstructing the mental patterns and the lies that became their
beliefs.
I plan on furthering my education within the field of Psychiatry and acquiring my PhD by
completing my bachelor’s in arts and then transferring to a University. While pursuing
my career, I will be doing Medical Billing and Coding on top of a Staffing position at a
local Recovery Home for women and children. Afterwards, I plan to further my
education in theology by attending Pastoral School in order to implement the Biblical
truths into the Psychiatric facility I plan to open in the future. God has used my mess as
a message for others who are walking in the very shoes I took off years ago, and I am
so joyful to be able to help those who see no hope past the title their given. I anticipate
the work ahead of me and the lives that will be transformed in the process.
