Perhitungan Starting Air System in Marine Vessel

1. Calculation and Selection of Air Receiver

In MAN B&W Engine, there is 2 types model calculation of starting air vessel, with jet assist and without jet assist. On th
calculation, we calculate starting air vessel without jet assist. In MAN B&W S60MC-C-VBS Catalogue, it is already state
that the engine is able to be reversible. So, because of the engine is reversible, so the capacity of the air receiver as state
in the project guide are as follows :
A. Required Air Receiver Specification
Amount of Starts : 12 times
Receiver volume : 5 m3 each
Working Pressure : 30 bar
The starting air receivers shall be provided with manholes and flanges for pipe connections

Type : Model AR-08
Volume : 5 m3
Diameter : 1500 mm
Height : 2350 mm

2. Calculation and Selection of Air Compressor

A. Required Air Compressor

Compressor Capacity : 300 m3/h
Working Pressure : 30 bar
Temperature : 25 degrees celcius
More than two compressors may be installed to supply the capacity stated.

B. Selected Air Compressor

Brand : Sabroe
Type : SABROE SAB 120L
Volume : 316 m3/h

Calculation for starting air vessel of engines without Jet Assist and slow turn:

V= 4.995 m3
