Monday (1/14)- Thursday (1/17) , 9:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.; Friday (1/18) 9:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M.

Total hours to date: 36 HOURS.

This week was my first week interning at the Women’s Center, and I was super excited to

get the ball rolling and learn more about what I would be doing throughout the semester. In order

to begin our internship, the other interns and I had to complete Victim Service Advocate

trainings, which were extremely informative and a great tool for us to reference throughout our

time at the Women’s Center. The trainings were composed of fifty-four modules that addressed

all types of abuse for each population, laws and regulations regarding victims of any type of

abuse, how to properly care for and advocate for a victim, and more information and other

statistics about victimized individuals. While lengthy, these modules were imperative for us to be

able to fully grasp the reality of the topics we will face at the Women’s Center and how to

understand and deal with vulnerable students that we may encounter every day.

According to staff availability, our supervisor Jennifer Graham planned for every Friday

to be staff-wide meetings to discuss future projects and track progress of these tasks. Since it was

the first week of the semester and there were new staff members, like the other public health

interns and myself, we started off by getting to know one another and our different leadership

styles. Next, we discussed visions and aspirations we all have for the Women’s Center and the

HUB as a whole, which led to creating different teams to focus on specific projects. I chose the
collaborative team, whose focus is to foster stronger campus alliances between the HUB and the

various organizations on campus. My group presented the idea of creating a “HUB Club”, which

is comprised of leaders of campus organizations who are essentially allies between their

organization and the HUB. These representatives would be completely informed on HUB events

and programs, as well as being a source for other members of their organization to reach out to

when an individual is seeking more information that the HUB can provide. Our goal is to

connect each organization to the HUB, in order for everyone to ultimately have a source to go to

when they need HUB assistance. I’m excited to get the ball rolling on this project and have high

hopes for its future.

During the meeting, Jennifer asked if there would be any volunteers to lead after school

education sessions for the High Achievers program. Julie, Bailey, and I volunteered to do the

program and we’re excited to plan health-centered activities for the high schoolers. This week

was a really great start to the internship and I am leaving both very excited and motivated to

make a positive impact on campus this semester.

Each day: 9:00 A.M.- 6:00 P.M. Total Hours: 36 HOURS Total hours to date: 72 HOURS.

This week Julie, Bailey, and I were really able to get the ball rolling and jump into

various projects that were needed of us. At last Friday’s meeting, Jennifer asked if anyone

wanted to lead an after-school session for the High Achievers program one Tuesday a month.

The High Achievers program is an after-school program for at-risk Baldwin County high-school

students. The male students meet with male Georgia College mentors on Tuesdays, so their

advisor was looking for a safe place for the female students to meet. Julie, Bailey, and I offered
to do lead the sessions, and on Tuesday we hit the ground running on planning the day’s

activities, all which focused around self-image and body positivity. Jennifer recommended that

each session focus on a different aspect that the Women’s Center embodies, so we decided the

first session would be about reshaping how one thinks of her body image. We created interactive

games that would spark conversation between the women about how each of them views body

image and the impossible societal standards we all fall victimized to. We were expecting 10

women to show up, but only 3 students did, as well as their advisor, but it was still a really good

experience. As a group we spoke a lot about the double standard between how society forces a

standard on women and how that the standard is literally impossible to achieve. The students

were quiet at first but I’m looking forward to creating the next few sessions to tailor their needs

and address important issues they may face, such as creating healthy relationships and raising

awareness of sexual assault.

The Women’s Center likes to acknowledge successful women on campus and their hard

work. That being said, this week a new class of inductees were inducted into the Georgia College

Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, a nationally recognized leadership society on campus. The other

interns and I wrote letters of congratulation to these hard-working women to acknowledge their

success and praise their hard work. Emily, one of our supervisors, told us that when a woman

does something extraordinary on campus or reaches a great milestone, the Women’s Center likes

to salute her hard work by sending a token of appreciation. It was sweet to write letters of

encouragement and applause to these women.

Additionally, my team and I are beginning to create our HUB club. For this week and

next, we decided we needed to refine and tune our direction as to what we want to be, and who

we want to reach exactly. I created a spreadsheet for potential clubs and organizations on campus
we can reach out to, and my other team members are working on crafting our mission and vision

for the club. One of the supervisors was skeptical of the club’s success, so I’m eager to succeed

on this project and prove her wrong. It has a lot of potential to do a lot of good, and I’m looking

forward to bringing it to life.

Monday (1/28)- Thursday (1/31) , 9:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.; Friday (2/1) 9:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M.

Total hours: 36 HOURS. Total hours to date: 108 HOURS.

In last Friday’s meeting, my group that originally planned to create a HUB club quickly

realized the several limitations we were going to face. For example, it would be nearly

impossible to find an appropriate time and date for several organization leaders to meet, since

everyone is already extremely busy with tight schedules. Because of this, the group members and

I began to brainstorm the idea of making the “HUB Club” a Facebook group, where each

organization would be represented and be able to view updates that we would post on a weekly

basis. However, we then realized that this is just essentially marketing and what the marketing

team already does, so we decided to combine our groups and work with the marketing team on

their projects for the semester. These projects include Ally of the Week, updating social media

pages on a daily and weekly basis, and creating brochures and flyers for upcoming events. I’ve

always enjoyed the marketing aspect of businesses and clubs so I’m looking forward to growing

in this skill and field.

On Monday, I met with Rylee, who is a student worker in charge of the marketing team.

Rylee taught me how to use Canva, an online graphic design tool that she uses to make

promotional graphics for the Women’s Center events. I quickly caught the hang of it and created

a couple graphics for the upcoming leadership conference we have, as well as a bystander
training session at the end of February. This will be one of my side projects I do throughout the

semester, assisting the marketing team by creating promotional graphics and coming up with

ways to promote events. This week I also have been creating graphics for the Women’s Center’s

Instagram page, to help better promote the services and opportunities we offer. This feels like a

fun art project to me, so I have enjoyed it.

With the project idea deadline soon approaching, Bailey, Julie, and I began to hone in on

what exactly we want to do for our big project. After leading the High Achievers program last

week, we all decided we really enjoyed interacting with other women and positively influencing

them. Therefore, we decided to create and implement a monthly development program for the

women who live in the LLC community on West Campus. The LLC community is a group of

second-year sorority women who live at West Campus while also participating in a leadership

program and earning college credit for it. Our idea is to create a program that emphasizes

positive self-image and body positivity, something that every college woman struggles with. I

emailed the LLC coordinator during the week to see if this would be something their community

would be interested in, and indeed it is. I’m looking forward to developing curriculum with Julie

and Bailey and making this program worthwhile for the LLC women.

Another small task I was assigned to this week was to create Women’s Center care

packages to those who contact us for advocacy. I cannot share information why or who we are

advocating for an individual, but I enjoyed creating a care package for these students to show the

extra support and care that the Women’s Center truly does have for each person who walks in the

building.

This week I was also given lead to create a Student Spotlight for a Women’s Center

student worker. I chose to highlight my fellow intern, Bailey, as she traveled out of town this
week to Florida to present her non-profit work she did in Belize last summer. It was fun to be

able to create a highlight on one of my great friends who is very deserving of recognition!

Monday (2/4)- Thursday (2/7) , 9:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.; Friday (2/8) 9:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. Total

hours: 36 HOURS. Total hours to date: 144 HOURS.

This week started off on a relatively sad Monday. Bailey and I were returning from an

errand walking into the Women’s Center when all of a sudden we heard a loud gunshot-sounding

noise. Quickly turning around, Bailey and I saw a student lying on the ground who had been

struck by a Georgia College bus. I called 911 as we stood there in shock, listening to the student

cry loudly for help. The experience was very overwhelming, but me and Bailey were both

convinced that the student would be okay. Unfortunately, an hour later, the student passed away.

Monday was an overflow of emotions as me, Bailey, and the rest of the HUB staff cope with the

loss of the student. Understandably, it was very difficult to focus on work and the tone of the

office was shifted.

This week focused mostly on beginning to plan a presentation that Bailey and Julie will

present at the Women’s Leadership Conference on March 1. I will be out of town due to family

circumstances so while I will not be physically there for the presentation, I will be participating

in creating the content and helping them best prepare for their portion. We are focusing on

creating the presentation being primarily about creating your professional brand as a woman, and

what that looks like when it comes to attire, social media presence, and having confidence in

yourself through the career process. It’s difficult to find the perfect videos or information to

share without bias or that is meant for college women, but we are determined to make a fabulous

presentation.
In addition to creating content for the conference presentation, I sat in on one of Bailey

and Julie’s projects, the Lady Bits podcast. This is a part of their Community Outreach team they

both are on (I am on the marketing team). It’s an informal, casual podcast that talks about

females and their sexual health and well-being. The first podcast was just to introduce the

concept to viewers and the misconceptions of sex that each of the hosts had in their early lives.

The hosts are Bailey, Julie, and Marissa, a student worker for the Women’s Center. I’m enjoying

listening in on the conversation, and definitely will be guest starring in future shows.

This week has been full of meticulous and different tasks for the other interns and me.

Our primary focus has been on preparing our presentations for both the LLC and the Women’s

Leadership Conference.

We have originally planned with the LLC coordinator to do two-hour workshops, but we

think it might be more beneficial to only do one hour, to hold the attention and interest of our

audience. We discussed this concern on Wednesday when we met with Liz (LLC coordinator) to

discuss our goals and plans for the workshop. Liz agreed that one hour would be the most

effective for the audience, and during our meeting, Liz, as well as the former Panhellenic vice

president of the LLC, discussed various ideas and thoughts for the workshop. We decided that

we will be meeting in the west campus classroom, and our first meeting will be focused on body

positivity and the media’s negative interpretation of what the perfect body should look like.
Since I have been doing graphics for other Women’s Center events, I created a social media

graphic to be used to promote attendance and awareness of the event. Julie, Bailey, and I are

continuing to work on our presentation, but we’re super excited about the project and are looking

forward to the workshop.

We were tested on our flexibility skills on Tuesday when miscommunication was proven

between one of our bosses, Jennifer, and the High Achievers coordinator. Jennifer, Julie, Bailey,

and I had planned on the monthly High Achievers program that we lead to be next week on the

nineteenth. However, late Tuesday afternoon, the High Achievers coordinator messaged Jennifer

saying she was looking forward to our meeting that day, which left Julie, Bailey, Jennifer, and

me to last minute plan an hour-long activity for the high-school women. Jennifer decided it

would be best to break down what exactly the Women’s Center is, and the services we provide.

After, we gave the women a tour of the facility and had time to do a Q&A session on whatever

they all wanted to ask. We talked relationships, tampons, and what was going on in our lives. I

really enjoyed the time with the high-schoolers and am looking forward to seeing them again.

Valentine’s Day at the Women’s Center really showed me how much I have enjoyed

working here. One of our bosses brought in brownies and cookies to share, one employee

brought us valentines, and another boss of ours wrote us all cards. Thursday marked a month as

an intern, and I really have enjoyed my time here. I have made new friends that I otherwise

would not have, and I feel like I’m just as part of the team as any other employee. I’m so

thankful for this internship!

Monday (2/18)- Thursday (2/21) , 9:00 A.M.- 6 :00 P.M Total Hours: 36 HOURS. Total Hours

to Date: 217 HOURS.

This week has been another week full of different but important tasks for the other interns

and myself. Rylee, who is in charge of the marketing team, assigned me earlier in the semester to

create the weekly HUB Ally of the Week. Since I usually post these on Fridays, I went ahead and

created the content at the beginning of the week for easy posting access while I’m out of town.

This week’s Ally is Ben, our guy who does video promotion for the Women’s Center. He has

recently created a promotional video for the Women’s Leadership Conference next week, where

he interviewed female student workers, including the interns, about who inspires them as a

woman. Bailey and Julie made the video, but unfortunately due to microphone and sound issues,

I did not make the cut (  ).

Julie, Bailey, and I also did some important filing for cases for one of our bosses, Emily,

who is the Victim Services Coordinator. This filing involved organizing various documents for

the several cases Emily sees on a daily basis, and is extremely confidential information. This was

super crucial to Emily though as having her documents for different students organized is vital to

a successful process for both Emily and the student. In addition to organizing files, Julie, Bailey,

and I organized the office we work in. It has been full of dated boxes of old posters, curriculum,

etc., so we cleared out of some of the missing space so that all of the student workers would be

able to have room for our own projects and belongings. Being the clean-freak that I am, I

enjoyed this task very much.

Every week at Georgia College there is a Times Talk hosted in the Library. This week,

our bosses Jennifer, Melissa, and Emily were invited to host “Coffee and Confidence: What

Does it Take for Women to Get Ahead”. To show support, the interns, myself, and a few other

student workers went to listen in. It was a very popular subject and I took away a lot of new
perspectives about the disadvantages women have in the workplace. It also inspired me to really

get rolling on looking for jobs as I would like to have a job by the time of graduation in May.

While I do graphics, Julie and Bailey each week do a podcast with another student

worker, Marissa. I often like to listen as they record because of the interesting topics and

conversation. This week’s topic was about vaginal health, and I joined as a guest host which was

very fun. We had great conversation and I actually learned a lot. As for graphics, this week I

created a Stalking graphic that we are planning to implement around the campus buildings. We

have all agreed that stalking isn’t as talked about as much as it should be, and so we hope by

promoting what it is and what to do if you are in that situation, we can help some students who

truly need it.

Since our first LLC workshop was scheduled for Tuesday, Monday and Tuesday were

primarily spent on fine-tuning and tweaking our first presentation for the LLC women. We were

all super excited to present to the women and were eager to see the turnout. Unfortunately, as

7:00 P.M. on Tuesday night came, not one LLC woman showed to our presentation. We were

surprised that no one showed, but quickly began to discuss with Liz, the LLC coordinator, of

ways to better prepare and promote the next workshop. We decided that we will reach out to the

sorority chapters and have them incentivize their members for their attendance, as well as

potentially giving away prizes for coming to the workshop as well. I think by doing this our next
workshop will be a lot more successful, and I’m eager to get the promoting for the second

workshop started.

Because the Women’s Leadership Conference is the Friday of this week, a majority of

our time in the office has been in preparation for it. Due to prior planned family commitments, I

can unfortunately not be attendance, so I’ve been helping with as much behind the scenes work

as I can.

For nearly a month, Julie, Bailey and I have been diligently working on their

presentation. Their presentation is called “Personality and Professionalism: Branding Yourself”

and how to keep your personality in your brand in a professional setting. It’s been fun

researching what exactly they will talk about because we all have learned a lot ourselves for our

future careers.

Tuesday and Wednesday were spent preparing thank you gifts for the speakers that are

helping us put on the event. We created gifts for twenty-five speakers, which included Women’s

Center swag such as a tumbler, hard drive, note pad, and a personalized thank you from the

student advisory board. We also organized feedback forms for conference attendees to complete

for the planning of the next conference.

Thursday, I assisted Julie and Bailey in rehearsal for their presentation. We decided to

first do a cold run on the presentation, to figure out timing logistics and what is and is not

working. Since there are break out parts of the presentation, we had to guesstimate about how

long each thing would take. They have fifty minutes to present, and during the first run-through,

it was about thirty-nine minutes long. This is actually ideal as Bailey and Julie wanted to give

about fifteen minutes or so to the audience to work on elevator pitches and SWOT analyses. I’m
excited to hear about how the conference goes for them and the Women’s Center staff. I’ll be

rooting from afar!

This week was full of random but necessary tasks for the office. At the beginning of the

week, I helped Julie, Marissa, and Bailey brainstorm ideas for their Lady Bits Podcast. I really

enjoy listening to this podcast because of how relatable it is to my age group and the topics have

been very relevant to my personal experiences. We decided this week for them to talk about

periods, period shaming, and how different cultures view periods, either as a good or bad thing. I

did not guest-speak on this podcast, but I enjoyed listening to the conversation and helping find

material to reference for the podcast as well.

Since the Women’s Leadership Conference was last Friday, the other interns and myself

are helping the office return back to its normal state after a lot of the materials and whatnot were

just dumped into our office. That being said, I utilized my organizational skills and helped clean

the office up and return the used materials back to their places. Often times our office becomes

the junkyard for other clubs’ leftover items, handouts, etc. Every so often Emily, the victim

servies coordinator who we share a common space with, gets overwhelmed by the mess and asks

for our help to get things back in place. Therefore, I enjoyed putting boxes that haven’t moved

since January into the trash and parting ways with unnecessary things that were taking up space

in our rather small office.

Brian, who is a student worker that specializes in the M.A.R.S. program, asked me to

create social media graphics for their upcoming workshop. M.A.R.S. stands for Men Against

Rape and Sexual Assault and empowers men to take action and help fight the problems of rape

and sexual assault on campus. These issues aren’t just women’s issues, but everyone’s issues.

Often times men are portrayed as the problem, when in actuality they can be very much part of

the resolution, too.

Since my next week will be shortened due to a job interview and travel, Julie, Bailey, and

I also began working on our LLC presentation that will be the week following Spring Break. I

contacted Liz this week to get the ball rolling on promotion initiatives to increase attendance and

awareness of the program. Since we didn’t have the best of luck the first go-around, we are all

willing to do whatever we can to make this workshop that much better than the last.

Bailey, Julie, and I, per Emily’s request, started on a proposal for Power Based

Interpersonal Violence curriculum that the housing department can utilize in training sessions

with residents. Emily is meeting with the housing department next week to work on creating

updated content for CA’s to use as the prevalence of PBIV-related issues as grown to her

attention.

Friday was International Women’s Day, and the HUB hosted a lunch celebration to

commemorate. I love the positivity and empowerment this day brings, and the positive vibes

were definitely spread throughout the office.

Monday (3/11) 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Total Hours: 8 HOURS. Total Hours to Date: 297

HOURS.

Due to a job interview and early travel for Spring Break, I am only in the office on

Monday of this week. On Monday, I began preparing for the upcoming LLC workshop, which is

the Tuesday after Spring Break week. Julie, Bailey, Liz (LLC coordinator) decided to shorten the

three-workshop series into two workshops, especially as the semester begins to end and

schedules and deadlines become for tedious and overwhelming for students. Because of the lack

of attendance of the first workshop, we decided to keep our Body Positivity curriculum we

created, and this week we worked to refine the presentation and add more information where we

felt was needed. I really like the material we have created and am eager to present it to this

awesome group of women. We also discussed promotion methods and spoke with Liz on how we

can assist in the promotion and marketing of the workshop. I’ve created more graphics with

Rylee to promote the event and discussed different social media strategies for the days leading

up to the event.

While I’ve been away, I have stayed in contact with Julie and Bailey to plan out our

project date and other information we need to promote the LLC event. Due to good relations

with the Panhellenic Board, I reached out to one of their executive members for the emails of

each chapter’s president to send them information about the LLC workshop to encourage and

promote attendance. Julie and Bailey will also be working in the office this week to finalize

details for the presentation. We are hoping that with these extra efforts attendance will greatly

improve and we will have a very successful workshop.

Tuesday of this week I had an interview with a recruiting company in Atlanta, Visionaire

Partners. After speaking with my career advisor and other peers in the industry, I have decided to

look into recruiting jobs because I believe I could be successful in it. The interview lasted nearly

two hours as I met with the head account manager and head recruiting manager for the firm.

Both individuals were friendly and supportive of my answers during the interview, which was

reaffirming. I did the best I could during the interview, and the corporate recruiter told me I

should hear back from the company within a few days. If I get another interview, I’ll be excited,

but if I don’t, I’ll be okay, too. The interviewing process in general was a big fear for me to

overcome and this has been great practice for future potential interviews. I’m proud of myself for

getting the ball rolling on job searching, as many of my peers have not. I hope that my proactive

efforts will pay off come graduation and I will be employed!

I will not have my laptop for the next week as I am visiting my sister’s family who lives

in Amsterdam. I am very excited to see Europe as I have never been before. It’s going to be an

amazing experience I can already tell, and I will remember it forever! I’m thankful my bosses are

very flexible and allowing my time off to travel. I’ve worked a lot of extra hours leading up to

this vacation, and I’m excited for the break to see the world!

Journal 10: March 18-22, 2019 TOTAL HOURS: 297 HOURS.

This past week over spring break, my parents gave my younger sister, Sam, and I the

opportunity to travel abroad to Amsterdam to visit one of our older sisters, as well as see Europe

for the first time. Sam and I were so excited to visit Europe for the first time, and since I had

worked extra hours in order to not become behind on hours after Spring Break, I was super

thankful that my internship allowed me to go stress-free!

After a nine- hour flight, my family and I finally arrived in Amsterdam. Trying to keep a

Public Health lens on during my trip, I instantly noticed the prevalence of cigarette smoking.

Especially at the airport, once we almost immediately stepped outside, an overwhelming

majority of the crowd was smoking. I was rather surprised to see this, but then also remembered

hearing that smoking was popular in Europe. Also, while in Europe, I saw tobacco

advertisements on busses and taxis. I have never seen promotions for tobacco use in the USA, so

I was curious if this was a normal thing in Europe. On the contrary, I saw positive health

initiatives in place as well. An overwhelming majority of the population in Amsterdam uses

bikes as a main source of transportation. Not only is this healthier for the user’s sake by allowing

daily guaranteed physical exercise, but it is also a positive impact on the town, as they are

decreasing car pollution. My sister bikes nearly thirty minutes twice a day to take her sons to and

from school. When asked if this was a normal length to bike, she responded yes. This was

surprising to my family and I as we would usually think to just drive to school and save a few

minutes.

My time in Amsterdam was incredible. My family and I were even able to go to London

for a few days to visit family friends. It’s incredible and so crucial to learn and experience other

cultures. Not only does it broaden your horizons and enable you see new ways of life, but it also

makes you appreciate your own culture and develop gratitude for the certain aspects of your life

you don’t want to live without.

However, now that spring break is over, the countdown until graduation is truly on.

While I can see the end is so near, it’s so crucial to end my internship on a strong note and give it

my best!

This week was mostly centered around our LLC workshop. Because our last workshop

failed in attendance, Julie, Bailey, and I worked even harder to push this event and increase

attendance with whatever tools possible. We worked with the LLC coordinator, Liz, to promote

the event to the sororities and collaborated with the sororities to create incentives for attendance.

Thankfully, we had eight women show up! Although we would’ve loved more, we were thankful

that we even had attendees and tailored the presentation to be more intimate and conversation

based. The women were also super open and talkative about the topics, which made the

presentation more enjoyable for everyone.

The days following the workshop we created a Google form for the participants to

evaluate different elements of the workshop- what worked, what didn’t, what could’ve been

improved, etc. We felt this was a crucial step so that we could improve the workshop if there

were to be sessions like ours in the future. We got very positive feedback, one participant even

said that the discussions really hit home for her and made her realize her unhealthy body image

and unrealistic standards she sets herself. It was really rewarding to hear such genuine feedback

and made us all see the bigger picture of why spreading positive messages about self -love and

care is so important.

Friday, the HUB led a “doughnuts and discussion” event that talked about having

intentional “yes’s” in life. This was a student led event and Julie, Bailey, and I enjoyed the

discussion. Also, Bailey and I switched up our office setting by attending to the front desk job

for the majority of Friday. It was fun to be a “receptionist” for the afternoon! Next week will be
full of planning for our project, beginning portfolios, and wrapping up final things around the

office. We are so close to graduation!

This week was full of various tasks throughout the week in regard to events happening

throughout the Women’s Center and various things that needed to be updated for Women’s

Center purposes.

On Monday, Julie, Bailey, and I updated the Women’s Center database with confidential

information about the support services used at the HUB. Because the three of us completed VAT

training at the beginning of the semester, we are the only student workers that are able to access

these files and assist in whatever way necessary. This was a lengthy and emotional process, and

reminded me that I really don’t think I could pursue a career in a heavily emotional job.

We also continued to look back on the LLC workshop reviews as we began creating the

curriculum for the second. Because of the lack of attendance on the first workshop, we met with

Liz, the LLC coordinator, to weigh the pro’s and con’s of another event. Liz decided she will ask

a group of the women if another workshop would spark interest, and if the workshop could meet

other LLC requirements. We should hear back from Liz about this within the next few days.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, and as this is an important topic covered at the

Women’s Center, there are several events going on. Thursday was Take Back the Night, an

annual march and awareness event that the Women’s Center hosts. Julie, Bailey, and I worked on

creating posters for the event and helped Melissa in any way possible.

Monday (4/8), Thursday (4/11), & Friday (4/12) 9:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M.; Wednesday (4/10) 12:00

P.M.- 5:00 P.M. HOURS: 29 HOURS. TOTAL HOURS: 396 HOURS.

As the semester draws near (less than thirty days until graduation!), Bailey, Julie, and I

have been able to use some of our time at work to work on final internship projects and our

presentation coming up next week. Monday, we worked on our presentation. Since we have

spent the entire internship duration together, sharing the same office space, we felt it was only

right to do a group presentation. However, that means and hour and a half long presentation, so

we’ve been trying to work ahead so we can meet the presentation requirements.

Tuesday, I was at home in Atlanta for two job interviews. I interviewed with ADP in the

morning and OTR Capital in the afternoon. I became familiar with both of these companies

through peers and was applying for a sales role at each. I could tell from the second question at

ADP that it wasn’t where I was supposed to be. During my ADP interview, the hiring manager

from my dream company that I interviewed with back in January reached out to me to see if I

was interested in any summer opportunities they might have. Before my afternoon interview with

OTR, I was offered a summer internship with Jackson & Coker, a medical firm in Alpharetta. I

told the hiring manager my situation and she decided I should have an interview with the woman

who would be my potential boss Wednesday morning at 8:00 A.M. However, I still went to my

OTR interview, and it actually went better than I expected. They have a relaxed work culture and

most of the employees are my age. I really enjoyed the people I interviewed with and they asked

me to have a phone interview with one of their VP of Sales Wednesday afternoon. Keeping my

options opened, I agreed.

After my meeting at Jackson & Coker Wednesday morning, I left feeling very

encouraged and excited about my potential working there. I enjoyed the woman who interviewed
me and felt like I could see myself at the company for a long time. Waiting for an offer, I spoke

with the OTR employee Wednesday afternoon, and enjoyed our conversation. He was checking

in with me to see how I liked the interview process so far and if I had any concerns. I knew I was

going to probably accept my internship offer from Jackson & Coker, but wanted to be a good

sport, so enjoyed the OTR call. An hour after, the hiring manager from Jackson & Coker called

and offered me the internship- and I ACCEPTED! This internship starts the Monday after

graduation and goes until August 2nd. It is paid, and since it is a sales internship, interns are able

to make commission based off different goals they hit. If I am successful as an intern, I will then

have the chance to be hired full-time into an associate role. I’m very excited for this internship as

it will give me the sales experience I am looking for. I’m also so relieved to be paused with the

job searching process for now!

I got back in the office after my job search adventures Wednesday afternoon. On

Wednesday, Bailey, Julie and I retouched base on our project and continued to brainstorm

different ideas and activities we could do during our presentation. We also resent out the LLC

Workshop feedback form as only a few attendees had responded to it.

Thursday, I revisited the Girls Grow Curriculum per Jennifer’s request. We have all

looked at the curriculum at different times this week, and I was able to get around to it on

Thursday. Jennifer wanted us to update the curriculum so that it would be more current and

relevant with whatever audience we have. However, Julie, Bailey, and I all enjoyed the

curriculum and don’t think any revisions are necessary. This week went by really quickly, and

we’re working hard on our presentation to make it the best we can!

Monday (4/15)- Thursday (4/18) 9:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. HOURS: 24 HOURS. TOTAL HOURS:
420 HOURS.

This week focused mostly on our presentation, which was the Wednesday of this week.

Monday and Tuesday were spent making sure we had all of the material that we needed

accessible to us all, as well as rehearsing and timing the presentation. We were all very nervous

about the hour and a half time requirement, as we all are naturally fast talkers. However, we were

able to provide enough material and resources throughout the presentation that once we started to

practice it, we realized that the reaching the time limit wouldn’t be as hard as we thought. In our

presentation, we discussed the several projects we were involved in this semester: Women’s

Leadership Conference, High Achievers after school program, Lady Bits Podcast, and our main

project, our LLC Body Positivity Workshops. We’re all super thankful that our bosses allowed

us time to work on our presentation so we felt as confident as we could before Wednesday. Our

presentation ended up going very well and we were all pleased with how we did!

Thursday, Julie and I worked on this week’s episode of Lady Bits Podcast. The topic for

the episode was Male Gaze, which discussed cat-calling and the way that some men view and

objectify women. It was a really interesting discussing our different experiences with the subject.

Marissa made sure to have a disclaimer stating that we weren’t saying that all men are this way,

but that there is a definite percentage of men that have been this way. I enjoyed the conversation-

this week has gone by so fast!

This week was a slow week at the office. Because of that, the other interns and myself

were able to start and complete our online portfolios. Because we have all been super organized

with our documents and presentations this semester, it was a simple task to do. It’s fun to make a

website for yourself!

Wednesday, Bailey and I helped Ben, the student worker who is in charge of creating

videos for the Women’s Center, film for the Women’s Leadership Conference re-cap. Ben

originally created the video in late march after the conference, but was asked to remake it to

emphasize more of what the conference gave the attendees. Therefore, we helped create a script

for Rylee to read and be filmed talking about and helped shoot the angles. I felt like a director for

the day, it was fun! After, Melissa asked us to hand out flyers on campus because Wednesday

was Denim Day, where people wear denim in honor of sexual assault awareness month. There

were several organizations on campus tabling, so we were able to pass out the flyers to these

organizations as well to better promote the message.

Friday we did preparations for the Lavender graduation ceremony that was taking place

that afternoon for the seniors. We helped create brochures and did tasks around the office to help

prepare. Next week they are doing a ceremony for all of the senior student workers. We even are

getting a cord for graduation! I can’t believe our time is almost coming to an end.
