decent amount of sleep, or barely getting any sleep. We surveyed 91 people through google
forms. The responses weren’t surprising, as college students we obviously can relate to people
not getting enough sleep. Some are able to get 10+ hours a night and that’s something great to
do, sleep is very important. As we dive into the data, remember this isn’t every college student,
but it is a good representation of how much sleep the average college student gets per day.
● On average, how many hours of sleep per night did you get in High School?
● On average, how many hours of sleep do you currently get per night?
Below you can find our thoughts and reactions to the answers the people submitted.
We asked, “What is your current year?” and we were surprised to have had very few
seniors in this survey. We had majority of responses coming from freshmen, and the others
didn’t come close. Seeing so many freshmen is good for us to see the connection between now
and back in high school which they recently graduated from, giving us a chance to see how much

more common major and the number of sleeping hours they get per day. Majority of the students
are enrolled in the teachers college along with the college of liberal arts. We expected most of
them would come from the teachers college, because this class is required for education majors.
We asked; “How old are you?” to see the range of ages and who was getting more or less
sleep than others. We expect most students to be between 18-23, surprisingly there were some
older students and we didn’t think 30+ would be on this chart. But nonetheless most of the

We asked: “On average, how many hours of sleep per night did you get in High School?”
This question correlates to the earlier question of what year they currently are in. Here we’ll be
able to compare the hours of sleep in high school, with the hours of sleep in college. Majority of
the students got 7 hours on average during high school. Which surprised us because we thought
We asked; “What was your GPA in High School?” to see the correlation between
sleeping and grades. Depending on how much sleep they got, dictates the GPA they received
during high school. Here we have a lot of high GPAs, and a lot of lower GPAs. Guessing by the
results, the people who didn’t get enough sleep have lower GPAs. The average number of hours
We asked, “On average, how many hours of sleep do you currently get per night?” to see
the relationship between the hours of sleep students get now, compared to the hours they got
during high school. We expected students to have less sleeping hours in college due to the fact
that there’s more work and more studying to do compared to high school. The average amount of
sleep current students get is 7 hours overall. But there was a good scatter along from 5-8 hours of
sleep. By the looks of the graph, we do have students getting less sleep in college compared to
high school.

We asked, “What is your current GPA?” to see the relationship between the student’s
college and high school GPA. We expect it to be a little lower than when the students where in
high school because the students aren’t getting enough sleep in college. According to the data we
collected, a lot of people have a pretty good GPA in college but there is an abundance of people

who don’t have a good GPA and that would be because of the lack of sleep.
Overall I think we collected good data to show us the difference in sleeping hours
between high school and college. As well as seeing the difference between GPAs. Does sleep
affect performance in school? I believe it does, the data showed us that while some are able to
keep their grades at a good level, sleep does have an effect on students keeping their grades at
the level they should be. I myself sometimes have trouble getting enough sleep, which causes me
to make a bigger effort than I have to, to keep my grades at the level they should be. Moral of the
