In this modern generation, the growth and progress of technology becoming more

impressive and rapid in which people of today take advantage from the benefits of it, and

these people are what we called digital natives.

Technology advances show people a more efficient way to do things, and these

processes gain instant results. Education for example has been greatly improved from

time by the implementation of technological advances such as computers. Students are

able to learn on a global scale without ever leaving their classrooms. Manual processes

that once required dozens of human workers can now be automated, advances in

technology make every lives easier, which means cost-efficiency for people. Technology

advancement makes computer become more part of everyday life. Nowadays, computers

are everywhere; at work, at school and at home. Many activities on a daily basis either

involve the use of or depend on information from a computer. There is no question that

computer plays an important role in our society.

Computer also helps in different organizations such as driving education to

produce and provide information in a more efficient way. Driving education is important

for every driver to be focus and alert when hitting the road. It covers the way with formal

training and discipline in driving, particularly the teens which may start to learn on how

to drive. They can be careless and irresponsible when taught by their parents. But with an

instructor who will taught and lead them on how to be a responsible driver, their attitude

on driving may change to a more aware and mature style.

Every single teachings and learning you can have in driving education is a

fundamental view of driving. Driving schools also teach proper manner while driving.

The use of cell phones and gadgets are strictly prohibited during driving since it will lose

concentration and focus on the road. The traffic rules and regulations are also a main

agenda of the driving education. It well teaches you how to be cautious and alert during

intersections and crowded places or cities.

In the study of Yousuf entitled “Driving ”

Driving School Information System (DriSIS) is a web based online system for any

driving school. This system has several approaches. The first one is to driving school

staff. This driving school staff needs to handle many students at one time. This will give

problem in term of communicating with student for their driving class schedule or exam.

Looking at this scenario, driving school have problem in communicating with their

student if the number of student more than the available Instructors. Besides that they

also need to handle the instructor in term of notification and appointment. This system

will help the instructor to access student information and their driving lesson record.

Others than that, the instructor also can get any important information regarding

appointment or memo about their schedule from this system. And the last one is to

students. Students can access their own data. Only registered student can have access to

the database. The only method is through the official website that included in the system

Driving schools are primarily responsible in inculcating lessons, as well as

providing schedules and information into their clients. One of which is the Pangasinan

Driving Institute or PDI, located in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. The company’s

administrators are in charge of managing and organizing information essential in keeping

the institution stable. One vital part in managing driving school is having a good

Information Management System. Based on the researcher’s data gathering and

consultation that information management in PDI are implemented manually which is

very costly and time consuming.

In relate to other system, the student information system is an integral part of this

technology. This student information system handles every aspect of student data right

from admission, class schedules, subject enrolled by the student, overall student

performance, and personal information of student. All these elements are integrated into a

single database, accessing and tracking data of any student happens with just a click of

the mouse. (Bayangan-Cosidon, 2016)

Considering the problems encountered in terms of manual processing, it is vital

for the institution to have a reliable computer-based system that will facilitate the

operations involved in the scheduling system and client's information management. This

leads for the researchers to develop a web-based Information Management System

exclusively for PDI which has a centralized database for easy access or retrieval of

records and is intended to automate the process of registration and scheduling system.

Clients with limited computer skills were able to quickly learn how to efficiently use the

system.

Conceptual Framework

The Conceptual Framework is use by the researchers to outline possible courses

of action in the development of the study. The project adapt concepts and ideas that will

serve as a basis in making the scheduling process and information management

automated and transparent as part of Online Driving School Information Management

System.

Information System. An information system is an organized set of components

very useful when it comes to organizing, managing, and processing the information that

the company will produce. These information systems are designed to secure data,

providing accurate information, reduce human errors and processing time in the

development of the system.(Zwass. 2016)

Records Management System. A record is something that represents proof of

existence and that can be used to recreate or prove state of existence, regardless of

medium or characteristics. All information created, sent and received in the course of the

will be done. It requires analyzing data before assigning it into its specific match of data.

It will surely record the information that has been taken from the client or customer of the

company providing accurate and secured series of appointments.

Research Paradigm

Figure 1 illustrates the Research Paradigm that was used in developing the web-

based system. The Research Paradigm shows the relationship between input, process and

its corresponding output. As indicated in the following figure the input of the project

would be the procedures in scheduling student and staff as well as instructor's schedules,

Statement of Objectives

The project primarily aims to design and develop an Online Driving School
Information Management System. Specifically, the researchers considered the following
objectives while carrying out the project:

1. To identify the lessons used in the Pangasinan Driving Institute.

2. To identify the problems encountered, current procedures, and policies in terms of:
 Student information; and
 Driving lesson schedules.
3. To determine the functional and non-functional requirements of the proposed system.
4. To develop an Online Driving School Information Management System using Rational
Unified Process (RUP).
5. To evaluate the usability of the proposed system in terms of:
 Efficiency;
 Information;
 Performance;
 Control; and
 Service.

Importance of the Study

Student and staff scheduling and resource management are probably one of the

most difficult aspects in driving school industry. The developed system has a centralized

database and it will also automate the existing manual information management,

calculation of account balance as well as registering students of PDI with benefits that

will rendered to the following:

The proposed system will contribute a much better performance making the

company proud of being a competitive for offering good services to their clients with

regards to its information management system.

To the staff

The proposed system will be helpful in maintaining accurate records of every

client. It will also provide easy access of client’s record and driving lesson appointments

which will benefit them for efficient services.

To the clients

It will help the clients to quickly view certain information and their transactions

through the system making them sure in getting the accurate information of their driving

lesson schedules and records.

To researchers

The researchers will gain knowledge and experience through conducting the

research. It will help also the researchers to understand the process of the system by the

means of finding solution to the problems they encounter with other studies. Into some of

the related studies.

To other researchers

This study can be used as their reference for parallel studies, and for the

furtherance of the features of the developed system.

Scope and Limitations

The proposed Online Driving School Information Management System for

Pangasinan Driving Institute focuses on managing all of the most critical aspects of

driving school business such as scheduling, class roster management, student billing and

driving information tutorial.

Online process of driving lesson schedules will enable you to quickly reschedule

an appointment with the same instructor or reschedule an appointment to another

instructor. Automated instructor's session calendar will allow you to view all of your

instructor’s schedules within a specific date or time where you can set the schedule for

your driving lessons. Scheduler can display staff and clients timeline for scheduled class

sessions. It will also view certain information about the clients.

The system also has its limitations. The system will not perform without the use

of Internet connection or Wi-Fi signals. The administrator only has the authority to

update or edit the price for any driving sessions. Payments must be done directly to any

authorized person in the company or depositing their payment to the company’s bank

account as the system will only display the detailed information of transactions, and will

not cover the actual billing process online.

Definition of Terms

To have better understanding of the terms used in this research, the following

terms were operationally defined:

Automation. Use of control system and information technologies to reduce the need for

human work in the production of goods and services.

Class Roster Management. It provides the staff with a list of students or clients that are

enrolled and waitlisted in a particular institution such as driving school.

Database. A collection of pieces of information that is organized and used on a

computer, today typically in digital form.

Driving Information Tutorial. It provides step by step information in presenting a

concept or learning unit particularly in the driving institution such as having knowledge

about road signs and driving etiquettes.

Functional Requirements. These are actions that the product or service must do. These

requirements reveal the functionalities of the system.

Non-functional Requirements. It refers to requirement that specifies criteria that can be

used to judge the operation of a system, rather than specific behavior.

Online Driving School Information Management System. A web-based information

management and scheduler that is intended for managing student records and driving

lesson schedules exclusively for Pangasinan Driving Institute.

Rational Unified Process (RUP). Refers to the model that will be used as a system

development tool for this study. It divides the development process into four distinct

phases that each involves business modelling, analysis and design, implementation,

testing and deployment.

Scheduling. It refers to the process of arranging, controlling and planning activities or

workloads in a production or manufacturing process within a specific date or time.

Student Billing. It refers to the process of tracking the hours spent in the driving sessions

as well as the expenses associated with the clients.
