1. DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE

This course uses insights from Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology to develop students’ awareness of cultural, social and political dynamics, and
sensitivity to cultural diversity; provide them with an understanding of how culture, human agency, society and politics work; and engage them in the examination of the
country’s current human development goals. At the end of the course, students should acquire ideas about human cultures, human agency, society and politics; recognize
cultural relativism and social inclusiveness to overcome prejudices; and develop social and cultural competence to guide their interactions with groups, communities,
networks, and institutions.

In the advent of technology, the changes in the socio-political condition of the nation directly affect individuals, thus at the end of the course, the learners
shall be able to integrate traditional and contemporary norms which contribute to the betterment of the Philippine society founded on respect for and appreciation of cultural
norms which emphasize human rights and envisage empowerment of the people. Promoting the culture of excellence, the learners will be equipped with the competencies
that go beyond the understanding of culture, society and politics but through social transformation.

II. GENERAL OBJECTIVES

A. Demonstrate understanding of culture and society as a complex whole


B. Analyze social and political structures
C. Analyze one’s roles in the establishment of a just, proactive and safe society and culture
D. Express respect for and appreciation of different cultures and societies
E. Analyze the role of culture in shaping societies
F. Recognize the importance of changes that occur in the society.
G. Raise social responsibility in the midst of the threats prevalent in the society
H. Analyze the importance of the government and other institutions in creating a safe and just society
I. Advocate inclusive and participatory governance through campaigns and proposed activities
J. Raise social responsibility through group led activities such as exhibits, infographics or infomercial
K. Deepen understanding and appreciation of cultures and society through an action research
L. Appreciate diversity of cultures and societies founded on respect
M. Uphold and respect human rights under all circumstances
N. Promote people empowerment through self or group led advocacies
