Preamble
I believe that all children are unique and have something special that they can bring to their own
education, as well as the education of their peers. I will help my students to express themselves and accept
themselves for who they are, as well embrace the differences of others. As a classroom community we
will work together to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and comfortable to learn.
Preventive Techniques
Providing students with sentence frames when they are answering questions/have a different
Team/community building
Class jobs
Every other week we will rotate classroom jobs. I want each student to have a responsibility at all times.
Examples of class jobs: line leader, paper passer, material manager for each table, water fountain timer,
Classroom rules
I want my class to come up with their own class rules/class oath. They will recite them every morning.
I will try to guide students as they come up with the rules. Rules will be posted for all students to see at
all times.
Teaching procedures
Procedures will be taught from the very first day of class. I feel like the first week should be very focused
on routines and procedures. Routines/procedures should be practiced ALL the time and all students
Students will sit in tables/clusters of desks for collaboration purposes. I want my instruction to include
lots of opportunities for my students to be able to talk to their peers and work together.
Tables will be set up so I can easily help all students, walk through the aisles, and so all students can see
me at all times.
I want there to be a spot in the room where all students can gather in front of the smart board for
Supportive Techniques
I will walk around as I am giving instructions, teaching and observing students working.
Keeping close contact with students at all times is important for success and classroom
management. Including proximity when students are not on task or when they are not
Intervention Techniques
I want my students to learn how to resolve conflict on their own and not rely on me to fix every little
problem. Early on I will teach them to respond to something they do not like saying “___I did not like
when you____. Please do not do that.” If they have done this then they may come to me for help.
I want students to know that if there is serious danger then they are able to talk to me: give examples such
I like the idea of having a teacher mailbox so that student can write down their thoughts, or tell me
whatever they want. Let students know that I will check the mailbox everyday after school. I also want to
make sure that I take time to talk to all students one on one throughout the week just to check in. This
could be as simple as pulling them aside during independent work, chatting on the way to recess or
Procedures
Each morning we will meet on the rug as a whole group and have a morning meeting. We will go
over the calendar, important announcements for the day, and each student will turn to their carpet
partner and tell them one good thing they did the night before.
End of the day routine will consist of reflection journals. Students will be given a prompt and after they
have responded to this they can write/draw about anything that is school appropriate.
I will use hand gestures (sign language) for students to communicate their needs with me.
Each table will have a manual pencil sharpener that they are allowed to use right before/after recess and at
I want to create an environment where parents/guardians feel comfortable contacting me with any
questions or concerns. Parents can contact me by class dojo and email whenever they need to. I will make
them aware that I check these platforms every day before and after school and that I will reply within 24
hours or by Monday over the weekend. If there is ever an emergency parents can contact the office and
I want to keep in contact with parents about all the good things that go on in the classroom. This
includes personal messages about single students who are doing well.
