CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

General Functions
a. Exercise general instructional and academic supervision over instructors and
faculty members in the department;

b. Initiate, implement, and evaluate activities and programs necessary for the
dispensation of function of the department and its improvement;

c. Monitor, supervise, and evaluate faculty members/instructors within the


department in terms of instructional and pedagogical tasks;

d. Assign faculty members, if applicable and necessary, to different committees


instrumental in the improvement of the department in terms of academic/non-
academic instructions as well as to implement authorized instructions from higher
authorities;

e. Conduct trainings and seminars in order to equip faculty members/instructors to


the changing nature of educational instruction and management;

f. Conduct collaborative researchers related to the functions of the department and


centers with the purpose of enhancing the academic performance of the cadets
and/or the system of instruction and its management;

g. Consult regularly the Dean or the Commandant of Cadets on the different policies
and guidelines needed in enhancing the academic performance of the cadets
through departmental interventions;

h. Conduct meetings with the faculty members of the department on academic issues
and concerns regarding the learning packages specifically on course objectives,
instructional methods, course outline, schedule, learning indicators, teaching
materials, rubric for grading, evaluation techniques, and other projects for cadet
development;

i. Check the correctness, reliability, accuracy, and validity of the


assessments/examinations based on standards; and

j. Submit to the Dean or Commandant of Cadets incident report pertinent to the non-
compliance with and/or violations of the regulations and policies of the Department
by the concerned faculty members/instructors.
Specific Functions

a. Engages the different institutions and other organizations for the development of law
courses and other technical courses within the department;
b. Attends various conferences and professional continuing education in law and other
criminalistics courses

c. Harmonizes law courses in relation to the required learning competencies of police


officers in the field;

d. Provides seminars to the cadets and to the faculty members for law/criminal related
courses; and

e. Signs the Marcher’s report in so far as to determine the problems encountered by


Criminal Justice Education faculty in terms of classroom instruction;

Organizational Structure
No formal structure –
1. Proposal for the creation of regular plantilla position;
2. Enhance the capabilities of the present personnel complement; and
3. Review qualifications and compensation for professors and staff;

Unit Goals and Objectives


In the near future, the Department aims to produce graduates who are:
a. adequately learned in law and jurisprudence on criminal justice with emphasis on
law enforcement and its relationship with and impact on the other pillars of the
criminal justice system;

b. capable of living up to the expectations of the community they serve, i. e., public
safety officers with high sense of responsibility, accountability, integrity and moral
values;

c. conscious and critical of the emerging social problems and willing to listen to the
clamor of the community they serve.

Periodic Activities
No formal activities –
The Department is yet to propose for the calendar of activities in consultation with
the professors and authorities of the Academy;
This summer break, the Department will:

a. review all standard learning packages; and


b. conduct of seminars and continuing education for professors and staff; and
c. review all learning materials for the purpose of formulating standards;

During regular semesters, the Department will:

a. monitor the progress and performance of each class on a daily basis;


b. conduct of regular weekly assessment on the subject matters covered during
the week;
c. conduct of regular monthly conferences with professors;
d. get feedback from the cadets and the authorities of the Academy; and
e. conduct peer review;
