17.1 For the time-delay process with the following transfer-function model :
5.0e −10.0 s
y(s) = u (s)
15.0 s + 1
a. Use the Cohen-coon tuning rules to design a PI, and PID, controller; implement each of
these controllers and obtain the closed loop system response to a unit step change in the
set point. Compare the performance of these two controllers.
b. Repeat part (a) using the appropriate time integral tuning rules to design the PI and PID
controllers. Compare this set of closed-loop responses with those obtained in part (a)
17.2 Adasdadsa
a. Design a Smith Predictor for the time-delay process given in problem 17.1. by specifying
the transfer function to be implemented in the minor loop around the controller yet to
designed.
b. Assuming the process model given in Eq. (P17.1) is perfect, implement the Smith
Predictor, using for g c , a PI controller with gain 0.3 and integral time constant 15.0
obtain the overall response to a unit step change in the set-point.
c. Investigate the effect of process gain error on the performance of the Smith Predictor by
repeating part (b), retaining the same PI controller, but this time using as the “true”
process model :
5.5e −10.0 s
y(s) = u (s)
15.0 s + 1
While using the model in Eq (P17.1) in the Smith predictor’s minor loop. Compare this
response with the “perfect” Smith predictor response.
d. Now investigate the effect of time-delay errors on the performance of the Smith Predictor
by repeating part (c), but this time using as the “true” process model :
5.0e −10.0 s
y(s) = u (s)
16.5s + 1
Compare this response with the “perfect” smith predictor response, and with the other
response obtained in parts (c) with the process gain errors.
e. Finally, investigate the effect of time constant error on the performance of the smith
predictor by repeating part (c), but this time using as the “true” process model :
5.0e −10.0 s
y(s) = u (s)
16.5s + 1
Compare this response with the “perfect” Smith predictor response, and with the other
responses obtained in parts (c) and (d).
From this specific example, comment on which error causes the most significant
performance degradation.

a. Design Smith Predictor

ditambah Smith Predictor
Gambar perbandingan grafik kontroller PI dan PID dengan metode tuning Time-
Integral ditambah Smith Predictor
c. Investigate the effect of process gain error on the performance of the Smith Predictor
Fungsi Transfer :
5.5e −10.0 s
y(s) = u (s)
15.0 s + 1
Sistem 1 : K=5.5
Sistem 2 : K=6.0
Sistem 3 : K=6.5
Dengan menggunakan parameter kontroller sebagai berikut :
Parameter nilai Kp dan i
Kp = 0.3
i = 15
d. Investigate the effect of time-delay error on the performance of the Smith Predictor
Fungsi Transfer :
5.0e −10.0 s
y(s) = u (s)
16.5s + 1
Sistem 1 : = 10
Sistem 2 : = 12
Sistem 3 : = 8
Dengan menggunakan parameter kontroller sebagai berikut :
Parameter nilai Kp dan i
Kp = 0.3
i = 15
detik, respon mengalami redaman berlebih.
e. Investigate the effect of time constant error on the performance of the Smith Predictor
Fungsi Transfer :
5.0e −10.0 s
y(s) = u (s)
16.5s + 1
Untuk melihat pengaruh dari time constant error maka nilai diubah-ubah namun
dengan desain Smith Prediktor yang tetap.
Sistem 1 : = 16.5
Sistem 2 : = 20.5
Sistem 3 : = 2.2
Dengan menggunakan parameter kontroller sebagai berikut :
Parameter nilai Kp dan i
Kp = 0.3
i = 15
