World is full of judgement. People really don’t know what is right and wrong. At the
end of the day, a particular action would be classified as right or wrong depend on what the
society accepts. But the big question is, how do we define right and wrong actions without the
involvements of religion and laws in our society.
We all know that ethics is a branch of knowledge that deals with moral principles. It
means that it considered right and good by most people agreeing with a standard of right
behavior. So the point here is, ruling and judging are always in the eyes of people around. This
is one of the reasons why we need to study ethics. We need to have broad ethical reasoning in
order for us to always determine righteousness. It is very important to classify the good and bad
because ethics is the core of everyday life. It will serve as our power to think wisely so we can
assure that our activities will be accepted in the eye of other. Being ethical is a part of what
defines us as human beings. But still sometimes even we are focusing on what is right, we can’t
say that it would always fall to a good one. Like Rodrigo Duterte, he wanted to solve the crime
about the drug here in the Philippines. His mission is pretty good, but the way he resolving it is
not right. He already killed lots of people and the worst thing is even an innocent person is
involve here.
In many aspects of life, we have lots of questions in our mind, and ethics provides a
framework for answering these questions well. In point of fact, it provides reasons for our
beliefs and allows us to stick in our own arguments. One of the incredible things, we may able
to critically examine opinions about what’s people said. Also, we need to make arguments and
give reasons in order to work out our own conclusions about the issue.
People tend to think of ethics as the set of values or principles that held by individuals or
groups. For example, many people get their ethical beliefs from their religion. Every religion has
different beliefs, so every person has an ethical reasoning that differ from others. But how about
those people who aren’t believing in any Gods? Is that mean that they don’t have rights about
aspect of morality? Another example, each country in this world has different laws, so in terms
of effectiveness, which set of laws in which country to be followed?
In the book entitled, “Ethics, theory and contemporary issues” It was sated there that
some states have legalized medical marijuana and gay marriage, and others have not. They say
that marijuana can really cure some diseases and it was proved already by scientists. But in
Philippines they strongly disallowing someone to use it because it is an offense here in our
country. Also, gay marriage is already legal in some states but again here it is an oppressive
restriction because of the beliefs in religion. These are only the two examples out of many issues
that we are facing now. I would go back to my question in my first paragraph, how do we define
right and wrong actions without the involvements of religion and laws in our society? This is
how ethics is relevant to study. We need to fully understand good and bad in order for us to be
conscious in our actions so we can able to attain the peaceful way of life.
