Intro: Who, What, When, Where

This is a season plan for the youth invitational team at The Cliffs at Valhalla in New York. It is meant to serve for the fall competitive bouldering season, beginning at the end of September and
ending midway through January.
Objectives
The goal of this season is to develop a stronger team culture and increase the physical, mental, and tactical skills of the climbers on the team. We also want to prepare our climbers for
competitions as thoroughly as we can while avoiding injury and mental burnout. We want to ensure that the climbers are giving full effort while still being able to enjoy climbing after their
competitive careers.
Philosophy
A big part of my coaching philosophy centers around developing athletes in a manner in which they are able to develop a sense of intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy that will allow them to
improve and enjoy climbing over a long period of time. Within this lies a necessity for adequate injury prevention work as well as physical and mental rest so that the athletes may avoid injury and
burnout. This is represented in the fact that the climbers only have practice 3 days per week, they ahve off days, and often have a chance to choose their own activities during practices. There is
also an emphasis on using games rather than drills to develop skills when appropriate. I believe that this plan accurately represents my coaching philosophy because it takes into account athlete
development and enjoyment in both the short and long term.
