Significant Weather Features

♦ Isolated thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) are likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on 19th April
and over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 20th & 21st April. Thunderstorms and gusty
winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph and at times 40-50 kmph) are likely over Kerala, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana,
Rayalseema, south Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 2 days.
♦ Day maximum temperatures are likely to rise significantly over northwest and central India during next 3 days.

Main Weather Observations


♦ Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at
isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan
West Bengal & Sikkim, east Assam & Meghalaya, Kerala and interior Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
♦ Rain/Thundershowers recorded at 1730 hours IST of yesterday (1 cm or more) were: Gangtok-3;
Punalur-2 and Kohima & Baderwah-1 each.
♦ Hailstorms/thunderstorms observed at a few places over Kerala and Chhattisgarh and at isolated
places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Sub
Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka,
Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu from 1130 hours IST yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today.
♦ Maximum temperature departures as on 18-04-2019: Maximum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at
many places over Kerala and Lakshadweep; at a few places over Tamilnadu & Puducherry; at isolated places over Odisha, Sub-
Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Assam & Meghalaya. They were markedly below normal (-5.1°C or less) at most
places over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh; at a few places over
Himachal Pradesh; at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh; appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to
-5.0°C) at most places over East Uttar Pradesh; at many places over rest Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over Gujarat
region; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over gangetic West Bengal; at isolated places over Saurashtra &
Kutch and Madhya Maharashtra near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday,the highest maximum temperature of
42.1°C was recorded at Bramhapuri (Vidarbha) over the country.
♦ Minimum temperature departures as on 18-04-2019: Minimum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at
many places over Tamilnadu & Puducherry, Rayalseema and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; at a few places over
Assam & Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh and at isolated places over Telangana. They were Markedly below normal (-
5.1°C or less) at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi; and at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh;
appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at most places over Punjab; at many places over West Rajasthan and West
Madhya Pradesh; at a few places over East Rajasthan, Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at
many places over Marathwada; at a few places over Konkan & Goa and Himachal Pradesh; at isolated places over Jammu &
Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Kerala and near
normal over rest parts of the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)
♦ The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu &
Kashmir between 3.1 & 4.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked. However,the trough aloft
in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level now runs roughly
along Long 80°E to the north of Lat 30°N.
♦ A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from 22nd April.
♦ The cyclonic circulation extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level over southeast Rajasthan and
neighbourhood persists.
♦ The cyclonic circulation extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level over south Chhattisgarh and
neighbourhood persists.
♦ The trough/wind discontinuity from Marathwada to Comorin area across Interior Karnataka &
interior Tamilnadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.
♦ The trough of low at mean sea level over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining central parts of south
Bay of Bengal persists.
♦ The trough in easterlies over Equatorial Indian ocean and adjoining Comorin area at 1.5 km above
mean sea level persists.
♦ The cyclonic circulation over east Assam & neighbourhood persists extending upto 0.9 km above
mean sea level persists.
Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 24th April 2019
♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.
♦ Day maximum temperatures are very likely to rise by 3-5°C over most parts of the Northwest and
central India and by 2-4°C over Gujarat and interior Maharashtra during next 2-3 days. No significant
change likely over the rest of the country during this period. They are likely to remain above normal by
2-3°C over Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours.
Weather Outlook for subsequent 2 days from 24th April 2019 to 26th April 2019
♦ Scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers likely over Western Himalayan region, isolated to
scattered over east and northeast India and isolated rain/thundershowers over plains of northwest India,
South peninsula and Islands.
