How to Make an Animation with a Still Image in Adobe Premiere

By: Hannah Winkleman

To begin, first you need to open adobe premiere and select new project.

You will need to create a bin in adobe premiere in Media Browser. Click on the icon with lines
on it next to your project name and select new bin. Name the bin 3D project.

Import your image. You can do this by left clicking on the Bin box and click Import.
Once your image is imported you will need to to drag your image over to your Timeline, on the
bottom left.

Now you are going to create the 3D effect. To start you will need to take the background out of
your image. To do this, click on your image in timeline. Under Effect Controls (top left) go
down to Opacity and click on the Pen Tool.
You will start selecting along the edges of your image. You can zoom in to get better detail by
clicking on the arrow next to Fit and click different percentages. 50% should be a good enough
zoom for detail.
Once you have gone around the entire image you connect the pen to the segment you started
with. This will automatically take out the background.
So now you will need to Duplicate this image because you no longer have a background. To do
this select Alt on your keyboard and drag the image up with your mouse, then release.

Now you need to delete your

To view what you have done you can unselect the eye icon on the top image, this will show the
background.
When you select the bottom image eye icon, you will see the image without the background.
Now you will be creating a Swivel Effect, which makes the background image appear to move.

You will need to select the bottom image (the one you took the background out of). Click on
Effects Menu offered at the top of your computer screen. In the search bar under Effects search
for Basic 3D. Click on this and drag it onto your bottom image.
After you do this new items will open under Effect Controls.

To create the effect, make sure you are clicked on the bottom image (the one you took the
background out of).
Now find the Swivel tool, set the timeline by clicking the clock icon. Now move the Timeline
left to a negative number. This will rotate your background to the left. The higher the number,
the more the image will move. Moving your image to about negative 20 should be high enough.
You can do this by clicking on the number and dragging it left.
Now you will need to drag your Timeline (the blue line) over to the end of the image. Drag the
swivel number over to the opposite number that you used earlier. In my case it would be positive
20.
This should complete the swivel effect.

Since you have now added the swivel the image you cropped will show through the image as it
moves. You can fix this by applying the Feather tool and Mask expansion. The feather tool
softens the edges of the image. The mask expansion tool expands the blur effect.
It will create an end effect that looks like this

If your image shows black on the edges you will need to change the scale. You can do this by
going to scale and dragging the size to the right with your mouse, to increase it, until you no
longer see black. You will need to make sure to increase the scale to the same number for both
images, otherwise the image will look weird.
