Job Shadow Reflection

For my job shadow, I went to the business of Summit Senior Living where I was to job
shadow a Medical Technician Named Dolly Linares. She has been a medical technician for
around 1 and ½ years. She has worked as an EMT for 2 years before she realised she wanted to
be a medical technician and further her education and job as well. I chose this career to job
shadow because a medical technician is on the path to becoming a nurse practitioner which takes
a lot more time and education into becoming. The jobs that medical technicians do can be a very
complex thing for they have to remember specific patient or residentś medications and correct
dosage throughout the day. Just like CNAs, Med Techs have to also go room to room figuring
out what each individual persons needs. Throughout the day I watched and helped Dolly pass
around the perfect pills that was required while also doing various jobs that were needed to be
done throughout the Job shadow. This job shadow was very useful with finding out what I
wanted to do as my career choice showing me a first hand account of what I will need to be able
to do on a day to day basis throughout my career. I loved being able to see this first hand because
it made me realize what I was getting into before going to college and possibly regretting my
choice in my career.

The start of the job shadow was pretty simple, we started off with going door to door saying
hello and just talking to the residents to get hold of how people’s days are and how they are
feeling which is an essential part of this job. This leads to good social skills that are extremely
important for any job in the medical field considering you deal with people on a day to day basis.
We passed pills to them when the time came and then we helped the residents with whatever
they needed us for for a few hours. This job shadow was tedious because of the amount of time
we had to finish all the needs of all the residents, but in the end I was glad I was able to guide
them to where they needed to go and help them in any way possible. After doing this job shadow
it made me realize this career isn’t a simple walk in the park and it will take more than a simple
passing pill session to realize this job is harder than what normal people see. This job gave me a
good idea to see what it was like to work with other medical field workers and helping residents
and patients all day long. In the end I loved this job shadow because of the opportunity to work
with Dolly and her giving me the idea of the career I wanted to be in. This job shadow helped me
realize this is something I wanted to do.
