Hi, im Joseph Elamrani.

I may not be known for my studious attitude towards school or

for being the most social candidate in the race, however i strive to educate myself and learn
independently about issues and topics i find interesting. Due to my interests I've become
familiar with the work of noam chomsky and want to encourage the independent thinking he
promotes. I want to become president to promote more equal treatment of those around the
world and help to create a functioning socialist society.

Foreign Policy:

Are Global Terrorist groups a threat to our National Security? This is an argument we
hear on the news and other forms of media, news papers ext. Almost every single day, but are
they really a threat worth the cost. The war on terror since 2001 has a projected 2.5 - 3 trillion
dollars cost. This seems insane when you take into account in 2009 al qaeda had as little as
200 active commanders left. There threat after 9/11 was quickly eradicated and dismantled.
Some argue the war on terror will never end because of newly emerging groups like isis, as
unpopular as this opinion may be i believe our foreign policy does nothing but create more
active terrorists. Currently and especially for the past 3 offices torture has become a much more
accepted use of force when “stopping terrorism”. A quote from US senator John Mccain
addressing torture states "It is a thorough and thoughtful study of practices that I believe not
only failed their purpose – to secure actionable intelligence to prevent further attacks on the
U.S. and our allies – but actually damaged our security interests, as well as our reputation
as a force for good in the world." Our use of torture and other devious methods of abuse in
foreign land radicalizes much more enemies then attacks it prevents. Isis has seemingly
taken the helm when it comes to global terror at least according to the US media. But since
june 2014 Isis has carried out a total of 143 attacks in 29 countries. This includes attacks
isis claimed to inspire and did not carry out themselves. Ten of these inspired attacks are on
us soil, they are the only times we have ever been attacked by isis in our home land, but all
were only inspired by and not carried out by isis themselves (source Cnn). However since
sandy hook alone there have been over 200 different school shootings in just the united
states according to a article from the New York Times. Isis has one attack on US soil they
only inspired, where as shooters in this country who aren't thought of as terrorists have 200
separate attacks on the innocent lives of US civilians.

Toppling Left wing governments who don't succumb:

Often times when political and social leaders in Latin America rise to power, their
motives are questioned by the United States and entrenched interests like economic
corporations.Take, for example, the rise of president Jacobo Arbenz in guatemala. He was the
second democratically elected leader in guatemala after an history of dictatorship, and he
promised land reform to the people of guatemala, who lived in a pseudo feudalist system that
held land in the hands of a few and kept the general population as workers. His reforms were
seen as exceedingly dangerous to the United Fruit Company, a US corporation that lost a lot of
land to these reforms, leading to leaders in the United states questioning the “Rise of
Communism” in Guatemala. Shortly thereafter, the united states entered into a covert operation
to overthrow the government, culminating with the rise of a military dictatorship that was
infamous for repression and political terrorism. The people suffered as militias roamed the
countryside and killed suspected communists and labor rights organizers who presented a
threat to the entrenched interests who wanted to keep their stranglehold on this latin american
economy. This example may sound extreme, but it's one of many examples of the subversion of
the popular will of the people for the benefit of the few.

Education:
My stance on Education is incredibly similar to my vice president Mariano Colon. We
have a major issue involving education in the united states that is often not talked about at all in
the media, increased privatization of schooling. This issue is pretty black and white but very
rarely discussed are private schools fair? As a socialist i believe all people should be equal, or
at least given the chance for an equal education. Sadly private schools at their core stop that
from ever being reality. Education isnt about whos the smartest in this country, otherwise a 4.0
Gpa from mepham would be the same as a 4.0 Gpa from Trinity Private school in new york city
(where the acceptance rate is only 2.5% which is lower than harvard's acceptance rate). Now
there is an argument that only the smartest and hard working can get into the school and for
99% of the population that's true, only hard work and dedication will ever earn you a chance to
test in. But on the other hand as with most private schools better education comes with money.
Those who have political standings/influence all send their children to private school. If their
children aren't smart enough they donate a wing of the cafeteria or library to show they really
want a better education. The idea that those with more money have access to better education
without regulation is insane. Ny state regulation is made to teach to the test we hear this
everyday going to public schools, but what does that mean. In my experience it means not to
foster learning or growth within the school. Any math concept that isn't common core even if it is
more useful it should not taught cause the school won't get as much money based on poorer
tests. The reason private schools don't have to charter to these laws are because private school
as a concept is better education for the wealthy, they are again above the law.

Economy:

The sentiment that “communism doesn't work” is a common trope that seems to have
taken on the appearance of a legitimate criticism, while preventing meaningful discussion about
individual reform. I think it's best to discuss my individual ideas on what's best for the people in
America without preconceived notions and dogma. My policy on the economy is a
comprehensive reform on the policies that affect corporations. In the past few years the world
has seen a massive influx on wealth on the top one percent, while wages for the average
worker is the same or lower than before. At the same time, our political system is seemingly
slower and more inefficient than ever, with many ideas being blocked because of the
repercussions that reforms would have on big business. Take, for example, healthcare. In
recent years prices for drugs have skyrocketed and the general cost of care is double the per
cápita the price of other developed nations, while we can't even provide healthcare for
everyone. This is a prime example of the strength large corporations have on our political
system that prevents meaningful change.
Another example of the strength that corporations have is their complete avoidance of
taxes. In 2018 there were 60 corporations worth billions of dollars that paid nothing in Federal
taxes, companies like Netflix, general motors, and Amazon. At a one percent tax rate, Amazon
would have had to pay 129 million last year . It would be 11.2 billion dollars in income tax alone
in a normal 30% bracket. As President i would use the money we make taxing corporations
along with decreased military operations to cut the national debt and fund better public schools
and free access to college and higher education.

For my closing i'd like to use some quotes from Noam Chomsky addressing the points
I've raised to give you context as to where my ideas are coming from.

Pertaining to foreign policy id like you to remember not all terrorist wear hijabs or are born in the
middle east; “Two days after the Boston marathon bombings, there was a drone strike in Yemen
attacking a peaceful village, which killed a target who could very easily have been apprehended.
But, of course, it is just easier to terrorise people. The drones are a terrorist weapon; they not
only kill targets but also terrorise other people.” - Noam Chomsky

As for education and our economy both can be solved with higher taxes of corporations
(including banks). “Debt is a trap, especially student debt, which is enormous, far larger than
credit card debt. It's a trap for the rest of your life because the laws are designed so that you
can't get out of it. If a business, say, gets in too much debt, it can declare bankruptcy, but
individuals can almost never be relieved of student debt through bankruptcy.” Noam Chomsky.
