BFS40303 – Prestressed Concrete Design

Figure below shows the tendon profile of a simply supported pre-tensioned concrete beam.
The span of the beam is 10 m. The tendon consists of 7-wire strand. Given the following data:

Cross section area = 5 x 104 mm2


Moment of Inertia = 4.5 x 108 mm4
Nominal area of tendon = 372 mm2
Strength of tendon = 1770 N/mm2
Young’s Modulus of concrete = 34 kN/mm2
Young’s Modulus of tendon = 200 kN/mm2
Initial prestressing stress of the tendon = 1200 N/mm2

Determine the percentage of immediate prestress loss.
