I Believe In Rainy Days

I believe in rainy days. The long hard down pours, to the soft peaceful drizzles. The gloomy and
so-called “miserable” weather characterized by pure gray skies. I believe there is good behind all
things, even stormy skies filled with screaming cries. Cries that break the painful silence of
sadness and despair. Cries that remind us the world is bigger than ourselves, and that we are all
part of a grander picture. A picture that looks perfect from far away, even though up close it is
made of millions of different pixels, each giving off an imperfect and unique glow.

I believe in imperfections and individuality. These elements are what make us real and authentic.
I believe that deep inside of our souls we each have the potential to add beauty to the world. We
are born with a seed inside of us. A seed that does not know its true colors until we have
experimented with the external world. Until we have seen the rain, we do not know our
aspirations.

I believe in a muse. A person or assembly of people who influence our decisions. I believe that
every encounter has meaning, and the simplest check-out at the grocery store shapes the future of
our individual lives.

I believe that we all have soul mates. I believe that we deserve respect from ourselves and a
significant other, who reminds us that the rain is beautiful. True love shows us true faith. Faith in
humanity and faith in ourselves. I believe love is an inseparable friendship that is built upon
trust, respect and mutual understandings. I believe that friends are good for the health, but
unhealthy if there is no preservation of individuality. The ability for one to be alone, and to
embrace this solidarity is truly beautiful.

I believe that we are destined to face negativity and darkness. I believe we can not see the
darkness coming, because even the brightest of ultraviolet rays can destroy us. But I believe we
are never truly destroyed. Without the sunlight or the dark storms, our souls can not grow until
beautiful flowers.

I believe that every flower is unique in its own personal beautiful way. And one flower alone is
just as beautiful as a field of flowers standing together. There is something special about a field
of flowers, however. A field of flowers standing together symbolizes unity. It means a world
without war and a world of acceptance. It means that we all persevered through the long rainy
days and strong ultraviolet rays, but despite our different battles, we all started as simple seeds.
The way in which we bloomed was not a formula, a pattern or a set of rules. We all bloomed
through our separate paths, and now we share nothing but only respect for another. I believe we
are more than just flowers though. We never die from a rainy day, instead we just grow.
In order to complete my final belief statement, I had to evaluate my personal values first.
After putting a lot of thought towards my morals, values and passions, I realized something that
makes me unique from most other people is my love for rainy days. I never truly understood why
I enjoyed these days while everyone dreaded them until recently. Through the writing process of
putting my beliefs into words, I wanted to emphasize how rainy days are no different from sunny
days, because they are just weather conditions. The more I wrote, however, the more I evaluated
the symbolism of rainy days when compared to sunnys days. I came to the conclusion that most
people have this common place for rainy days being gloomy and depressing. However, I view
rainy days as renewal and revival, and something essential for the growth of our individuality. I
tied my love for rainy days to other beliefs I have, such as seeing the good in all things and
finding soulmates/people to surround ourselves with that help us grow. I also used a few literary
techniques to get my main points across. The first technique I used was repetition of the phrase
“I believe,” in order to constantly remind the reader these statements come from my own
personal values. A similar decision I made involves the form of this belief statement. I wanted
each of my sentences to flow by meaning, and to be separated into a new paragraph when a new
idea was introduced. The most prominent literary device throughout my statement is symbolism.
I used symbolism and the theme of nature to thoroughly depict my ideas towards change, people
and the paths our lives take. Above all, this belief statement is representative of how I view the
good and the bad in the world, related to my favorite weather condition of rainy days. With the
help of the form and literary devices used throughout my statement, I reveal to the reader my
outlook on life through my beliefs.
